“Great Experience”
Reviewed 7 April 2014

Stayed here for a total of 6 nights before and after my Machu Picchu trek. Great location, quiet place, and very safe. Within walking distance of any place of interest in Cusco. The two courtyards were fabulous and the rooms well decorated and maintained. Great atmosphere. Breakfast was very good and plentiful. Staff were very courteous and friendly. Safety boxes in every room. The only negative was the poor WIFI connectivity, it worked only in the courtyard by the entrance. All being said, I'd stay there in a heartbeat and I highly recommend it.

Room Tip: Downstairs rooms have limited daylight. Upstairs rooms are brighter.

Very friendly place with unforgettable atmosphere. It is very special place, you don't feel like being in the hotel but rather in some historical movie scene. Very well located! Hotel staff was very friendly, trying to help. I recommend!

This was where we stayed our first night in Peru. Wow, we were blown away. This historic old hotel is a pleasure in every way...clean, elegant, and full of character. And the staff is amazingly helpful...certainly the best customer service we had in our entire time in Peru.

The rooms are old-world...and that's a good thing. The whole place is an old Spanish monastery, and if you are looking for a unique stay, look no further. The rooms are surprisingly up-to-date and very clean. There no shortage of outlets or hot water here. The rooms are plenty spacious, as are the bathrooms. They are very conservatively decorated with a nod towards the roots of the building.

One of my favorite things was to sit in the courtyard and have a cup of coca tea or a Cusqueno and relax after a long day of sightseeing. There's a gorgeous outdoor courtyard with a beautiful fountain, where you can get lots of sun, or you can seek some shelter in a covered courtyard where most of the rooms are.

The free breakfast is great. Plenty of breads, fruits, yogurts, and eggs made to order. The breakfast staff is eager to help you as well. Oh yeah, and the coffee is fantastic.

The location is only two blocks from the Plaza de Armes, which is really the tourist center of Cuzco. There's tons of dining options nearby, as well as bodegas to get any necessities. And if you need a cab, everything is pretty close...for instance, a taxi ride from the airport will run you about 15 soles (or about 6 bucks).

The thing I loved most about the Marqueses: the staff. All of the front desk speaks great English, and the porters and wait staff speak enough to get by. Everyone is incredibly friendly...they will literally go out of their way (like, physically moving) to help you out. If you have ANY questions, or need any recommendations, be sure to ask the staff at the front desk...they never let us down on dinner or tour recommendations. They always promptly booked us a table for dinner at where ever we asked, and we had them recommend a day tour, they really delivered a fantastic (and cheap!) option for us. The staff was even kind enough to store & secure our luggage for a few days while we traveled to Aquas Calientes & Machu Picchu...for free!

Not only would I want to return to the Marqueses because of the crazy-cool environment you lodge in, I really trust and respect the staff. A fantastic stay!

Stayed here last week and it was great! Its incredible to sit in the courtyard and enjoy a beer or some tea. Very quiet and conveniently located. The staff was very accommodating and bent over backwards for anything we needed. Great value and highly suggest staying here while in Cuzco. Breakfast is free and absolutely dynamite. The girl who works breakfast catered to us and was on top of things. Definitely exceeded all expectations!

The hotel is perfectly situated in the center of Cusco. The hotel is a well maintained old Spanish Residence, you can breath the past while walking through the building. The personal is very friendly, and was always willing to help me with questions I had. I was amazed how the building looks like the buildings I encounter in my hometown in Cantabria, North of Spain. Rooms are pretty basic but comfortable. Every basic thing you wish for while staying in Cusco is present. You can reach lot's of restaurants, bars, disco's, etc. at walking distance. Breakfast could use a little more variation but the quality of the food is ok. I also want to thank Elizabeth Castro Vargas for making a visit to the little internal Chapel possible. That was a nice surprise for me.

Room Tip: I had a room on the back side, not the street side. Quiet and clean.

In a city of fabulous old buildings, this hotel, in an old monastery, certainly played its part. Based right in the middle of the old section of town, you walk from the street through reception into a courtyard. There is another courtyard further on, set out with tables and all the rooms are based around these courtyards in the traditional way. The doors were either thick, ornately carved wood, or in some cases for communal rooms, glass with a stencilled crest cut to fit the original stone arches. There were a few rooms which looked as if they were still in active monastic use.
If you are looking for a room with character, this hotel has many. But check them out first – some have several joining rooms, even spanning two floors, while others are quite small. Ours was on the small side (for this hotel) and some nice lighting illuminated a kind of vaulted roof. Just as well, as the only windows were a tiny square cut into one of the ornate doors and an equally tiny sky-light.
The furniture was very old, solid and wooden and the floorboards creaked like hell. Full of character! Bathroom was OK with a good gushing shower.
Breakfast was reasonable – the usual range of cereal, toast, rolls, fruit, eggs, fried vegetables, served in a cosy but dark dining room.
The staff were friendly and very helpful with all our needs, and there was fresh water and hot drinks available all the time.
For a place which is well-run, central and full of character, this is one of a kind and I would gladly go back.

I spent a few days here in 1994 when there was a good staff but unfortunately no water - either hot or cold. Glad to say it has much improved and now has excellent staff and water from both taps. Great central location, wonderful hotel structure, courtyards & carvings. Rooms are basic and you can occasionally hear a pin drop in the hotel - but this is not a Marriot (thank god) and who spends much time in ancient creaking bedrooms anyway especially when you have to get up at 4.30am for your Machu Picchu trip with your "packed breakfast" box (actually just a thin ham sandwich but you will use the calories). And did I mention the free mate de coca tea to help your altitude attitude. You should value this place for it's eccentricities if nothing else. Really enjoyed it again.

Room Tip: upstairs with balcony
