“An oasis to die for!”
Reviewed 31 May 2008

Stepping through the Inca Portal of Rumi Punku is like entering a sanctuary. In over 12 years visiting Cuzco twice a year, I have found no other hotel offering all that welcomes me here. It is bright, airy, spotlessly clean and the staff are generous, welcoming and quick to help. I enjoy the many artful touches of class--the flowers in the rooms, colonial antiques placed to treat the eye on all sides and the original paintings on the walls.
The beds are firm and covered with Norwegian comforters, and the rooms have extra blankets, heaters and spotless bathrooms. There is a garden patio, a sunny rooftop terrace, and a remarkable sauna, jacuzzi and workout room overlooking the city! The breakfast is excellent.
Friends who I have recommended stay at Rumi Punku have raved about it. Having found this hotel,
I am no longer looking for something better...there probably isn't anything better to be found in Cuzco.

5 of us stayed in 3 rooms May 11, 12, and 14, and the positive reviews on TripAdvisor were fully borne out (as usual). First night hot water failed us, but afterward it was fine. We met the owner on the last night, who explained they were replacing a large hot water tank our first night.

Internet service on the two computers was free, although service was a bit like dial-up--we found this to be a common problem in Peru. Breakfast was basic, as were the rooms, but we give it a high rating partly because the hotel is extremely clean, well kept, and convenient. More than that, the service and English spoken were outstanding. We took advantage of the hotel laundry service for a couple of dollars while we were gone to Maccu Piccu, and left all our heavy bags there at no charge. The manager arranged a wonderful tour of the area for us. If we ever return to Cusco we will not consider staying anywhere else. Double rooms were $80 for us at the beginning of the heavy tourist season, which we thought was a good value. We do recommend the rooms away from the street, as the ones close were noisy at times.

  • Liked — Outstanding service and location.
  • Disliked — Little heating available for rooms.

Great value, nice hotel. Very close to Plaza de Arms, many laundromats, and some convenience stores. Very friendly and helpful staff. They arranged taxis for us and even negotiated rates for us to ensure the driver wouldn't overcharge us. Nice rooms. Nothing fancy, but clean and decent sizes. Bathrooms were spacious. They truly have lots of hot water! This is something I read about as a problem, and that hotels will advertise they have hot water and don't. I didn't have a problem with the water at all. The only downsides were a very hard bed, and because the hotel opened to a courtyard, you could hear some outside noise from your room. It wasn't extremely noisy but sometimes you heard some dogs barking or people talking. Really a great value for the price. I highly recommend!

  • Liked — friendly staff; great value; location
  • Disliked — noise from outside; hard beds

We stayed at Rumi Punku for 3 nights in early March. The rooms were clean and comfortable, showers fantastic and breakfasts tasty. Great views over cobblestone roofs from the top terrace too.

The staff were incredibly helpful and friendly and even found us another hotel to stay at and carried our bags there up a very big hill when we decided to stay an extra night in Cusco and they were booked out.

It is in a perfect location near the main square in the San Blas neighbourhood near lots of great restaurants and bars. We thoroughly enjoyed the tours of ruins and the Sacred Valley organised through the hostal also.

Definitely recommend it.

I stayed at Rumi Punku in April after reading many great reviews here on Trip Advisor. I really enjoyed my stay and the price was great. The location is a short walk from the main plaza and the people were really friendly. They had 2 computers with free internet access which were always available for use, and coca tea available 24 hrs. The one thing I would say is that it gets really cold there at night and the small room heater was not enough. I would return and would recommend it to my friends.

I stayed at Rumi Punku with a friend for two nights at the end of April. We had a double room and paid $80/night.

The hotel had a great location, in walking distance of the main plaza and the Sacsayhuaman ruins. It is a steep walk up hill to the hotel, but in Peru it seems, most things are! There are many small convenience stores and restaurants on the street. I would recommend Jack's Cafe if you need a break from the Peruivan cuisine for cheap.

We stayed in room 205, which was at the back of the hotel. The beds were very comfortable, and there was 24 hour hot water as advertised... Check-in and check-out was very easy and the staff was very pleasant. They helped us get a taxi on our way to the airport, and carried our bags... The door to the street was secure, and guests had to be buzzed in during the day, and let in by a security guard at night... Breakfast was good and the 24 hour hot water for coca tea was a lifesaver!... Free internet on the computers in the lobby was also great.

My only criticism is that there seemed to be some construction going on near the hotel and that coupled with the dogs and roosters in the area led to the open air atrium hotel being a little noisy. It wasn't bad during normal sleeping hours, but due to the altitude, we took some naps during the day that weren't all that peaceful. Bring some earplugs and you'll be fine!

If you visit Cusco and you do not stay at the Rumi Punku, you messed up!. The Hostal Rumi Punku is quaint, safe and is convenient to the central plaza. The hot showers were great and the Norwegian dynes are such a nice touch in making the beds sooooo comfortable. I arrived at the Rumi Punku with a group of 22 people (mostly dental students from Tufts University). That large a group puts a lot of pressure on the hotel staff. Javier Siclla and his staff were fantastic in accommodating all of us. Every morning, breakfast was there for us; even the one morning when we had to leave at 4:30AM! Peru is a beautiful country but its people are what make it so memorable - The Hostal Rumi Punku is a quaint and comfortable place to stay but its staff makes it the only place to stay in Cusco.
