Seven of us stayed at the Rumi Punku for three nights in early August. It was a great location in Cusco...a ten minute or lesswalk from the Plaza de Armas, but also close to lots of restaurants and shops, and a short, but uphill walk to the San Blas neighborhood.
The hotel is lovely, with beautiful plants and a courtyard that is open to the sky. There's a very nice breakfast room, with very helpful staff and a good breakfast. Free internet, games, and a lounge were all wonderful.
The rooms were spotless and good-sized. The first night, two of us stayed in a room right on the first floor. It was noisy, as fellow travelers came in and out right by our door, on the stone floor of the courtyard. For the other nights, the staff helpfully changed us to a much quieter room in the back, with beautiful flowering plants right outside our door.
The staff was helpful with questions, cabs and other details. I'd highly recommend staying here.

The hotel was close to the Plaza de Armas, about 5-10 minute walk. It was also close to San Blas (up hill of course). The staff at the hotel were really helpful. No problems with hot water, especially after hiking for five days in the Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu. Really comfortable beds. Breakfast was also excellent.

TIP: If you are looking for a quinta, Quinta Eulalia is very close to the hotel. Great place to eat traditional Andean cuisine.

We spent three nights at the Rumi Punku before our Inca Trail trek and one night after. I already told Sergio that if I wasn't already married, I'd marry him since no matter what I asked him to do, the answer was "Yes, not a problem"! Jorge and the others at the Rumi Punku were just as accomodating! We had several special requests including getting a box of clean clothes brought to the train to AC so that we didn't have to carry them on the trek. (I would recommend this to anyone as long as they are planning to spend the night after the trek in AC). One of the employees made a special trip to the train station to make sure the box was shipped. Not a problem! The rooms are small but clean and comfortable and the water in the shower was always hot (though the temperature could be a bit variable at times). The space heaters were adequate if you put them on early in the evening. The breakfasts were wonderful with cooked to order eggs, yogurts, fruits, cereals and breads with ham and cheese. Available from 5 to 10 in the a.m.
We ate dinner at three different places all on the same street and all FANTASTIC and cheap ($45 for four of us including teenage boys).
The location was perfect, quiet (except for the last night when everyone in Cusco was setting off firecreackers for their independence day celebration...not the hotel's fault and kind of a funny thing when you think about it) yet only a 5 minute walk to the Plaza de Armas. They are happy to come and get you from the airport too, free of charge.
Overall, if you are looking for a pleasant place to stay with a nice local feel, you can not go wrong with the Rumi Punku.

I would join the rest of the reviewers to say this is a great mid range place to stay. They were v helpful when we had to change the dates slightly in view of the national strike in Peru

I stayed at Rumi Punku with 3 friends (two rooms) for 2 nights before and one night after hiking the Inka Trail. Jorge, the hotel manager (?), greeted us upon check-in and showed us to our rooms. The rooms were clean and adequately spacious. The bedding on each bed was very plush and comfy. Each room had a television with a ton of channels (many in English), space heaters (needed at night), but no hair dryers. The hotel building is very old and very beautiful and within a short walk to the Plaza de Armas. The hotel has a main lounge room where 2 computers with Internet access were available for use (free of charge). Breakfast was available (included in room price) very early each morning and consisted of eggs made-to-order, fruit, oatmeal. juices, rolls, and croissants. The hotel will also store luggage for hikers free of charge. Jorge was very accommodating to our requests and provided a number of suggestions of things to do around Cusco. We took Jorge's advice and hired a cab driver to drive us around to different sites one afternoon. I truly enjoyed my stay at Rumi Punku and I hate to say anything negative about the hotel, but I feel I must make one disclosure: because the rooms are all centered around one main courtyard, you may hear noise from other guests. I heard some noise one afternoon while napping and I was, for a few moments, woken up early one morning by other guests who were leaving early for their hike. The noise was short-lived and certainly didn't ruin a whole night's sleep. I'd recommend Rumi Punku to everyone!

my 2 girlfriends and i just returned from our trip to machu picchu and our stay at the rumi punku (or 'rumi puuunks' as we like to call it)... it is a quaint little paradise behind stone walls in which the friendly staff offers service fit for the incan gods. we LOVED jorge! we were especially thankful for the prompt cab service, luggage storage while we treked for 5 days, hot coco mate offered in the beautiful lobby along with free internet access. the location is also extremely convenient and close to many great restaurants (jack's, inca incacafe), shopping, and the plaza de armas. security was top - notch as no one enters without getting buzzed in first. after a 5 day trek, coming back to a hot shower and a clean warm room came second only to setting our eyes on the marvel that is machu picchu!
one more extremely helpful detail : the scale in the atrium for weighing luggage!
we would recommend this charming hotel to anyone visiting the beautiful andean town of cusco!

We stayed at Rumi Punku for about 3 nights at the end of May. The staff was amazing, food was great for breakfast (and available early enough to catch your train to Macchu Picchu or flight back to Lima). Room was clean, water was always hot. Beds were nice a warm/comfy. The bottled water in the office was cheap. Would stay here again and again!
