“Fantastic service from the friendly and helpful staff”
Reviewed 1 August 2011

We stayed at the hotel when we first arrived at Cusco, and on returning from Machu Picchu, and then again on returning from Puno. On each occasion we found the staff to be extremely helpful and attentive. When our daughter left a special blanket in our hotel room in Aguas Calientes, the very helpful Aitne on the front desk telephoned the hotel for us and arrnged for the blanket to be delivered to the hotel a few days later. Also, when we arrived very early in the morning after an overnight bus trip from Puno, in need of a shower and a bed, Yuli on the front desk checked us in to our room immediately and also offered us a complimentary breakfast which we really appreciated. The hotel itself is unique in its design and decor and we found it to be very comfortable. It is also located in San Blas, a quiet but atmospheric part of Cusco, yet only a 5 minute walk from the Plaza de Armas. The breakfast buffet is delicious and includes eggs made to order. There is mate (coca tea) available in the foyer at all times, very useful for alleviating the effects of altitude sickness. While the tariff is a little high, the level of service and attention of the staff make it good value. The security of the hotel is also excellent.

Room Tip: We liked room 201 the best as it is away from the foyer and also has a little balcony overlooking t...

We stayed at Los Apus for five nights...four before doing our trek to Machu Picchu, and one when we came back. We would highly recommend that you stay here...everything has been great. The rooms are really clean and well appointed, nice bathroom...and a bath (was amazing after trek!), the girls on reception really sweet and helpful, the inclusive breakfasts are good...lots of fresh fruit, croissants, and they will cook you some scrambled eggs etc. They stored out bags safely whilst we were treking and the bags were all waiting in our room when we returned. Everything about staying here was smooth and easy.
Location is great...a 3 minute walk to the main square, plus its very near the cool little neighborhood called San Blas in the little streets behind...well worth checking out.

I doubt we will ever be back in Cusco but if we were we would have no hesitation whatsoever in booking the Los Apus again. We thought it was really good value and good service all round.

p.s. If you are coming here to trek SERIOUSLY recommend you come about 3 days early so you can acclimatise to the altitude..it took longer than we thought and we were so glad we had the extra time. Lots to do whilst you acclimatise...recommend the City Tour and the Sacred Valley tour.

I stayed at Los Apus for 2 nights on my trip Machu Picchu.

The hotel is located in the San Blas neighborhood. Lots of good restaurants around.

The front desk staff were very friendly and very helpful at all times.

The room that I got was pretty comfortable. It had a good sized closet and a safe. The beds were really good and the bathroom was very spacious.

Breakfast is served on a rooftop terrace with a very good view of the roof of other houses.

A piece of advise if you can't sleep at night due to altitude sickness, raise your legs and all the blood will come down to your head.

Don't pay attention to the bad reviews about this hotel, this hotel is to drop your bags and go out and see the scenery and eat, then come to a cozy place to rest.

I stayed here for two weeks in May 2011. From the pickup at the airport to the care and concern for my well being from Luis and his fine staff, I felt totally pampered and secure. I was alone for a week with a bad reaction to the altitude. Luis looked after me and I never felt "alone" . Aitne and Yuli at reception could not have been more courteous and helpful! Edwin from the kitchen fixed excellent breakfasts each morning in a beautiful small restaurant with stunning rooftop view. The hotel itself is very charming and in a great location in San Blas-the best neighborhood in Cusco. They have really reliable wifi and excellent cable TV. When my husband arrived, they were very kind to him and his Spanish is very limited. They stored our luggage for a weekend at Machu Picchu and when we arrived back very late due to a train snafu-our luggage was already in our new room! You can walk to the main plaza and there are many great restaurants nearby. It is also very safe as they keep the front door locked. This was a real find-I originally booked only 4 nights to be certain I did not make a mistake, but never considered changing hotels. There is tea service all day and they provide bottled water for the room upon request. Luis helped me to find a Spanish school for lessons and arranged a Sunday tour of the Sacred Valley. I would highly recommend this small and special hotel to anyone going to Cusco!! The staff makes all of the difference in a hotel and they go the extra mile. I travel a lot and I was impressed. A very good value also.

After a bit of difficulty trying to find it (no local taxis knew the place and there wasn't much signage), everything was smooth sailing. The staff was very formal and courteous, and welcomed us with nice-tasting tea that made my gums numb and helped with the elevation sickness. The place felt very safe, and the desk people were happy to call us taxis to the train station or wherever. It's only a 5 minute walk to the main square, and the side-streets we walked didn't seem to sketchy.
Beautiful interior and rooms, and I saw some people eating breakfast in the nice lobby one morning. We didn't have any issues with our hot water, heater- anything like that. In fact, there was a nice balcony to the room that we used as a "refrigerator" one cold night for our drinks.
It's probably a good thing that it's not so obvious of a place to find, as you don't get much of the hostel/ backpacker crowd. But that's not to say this place is overly pretentious or hoity-toity.
Great price for a great place, overall. Just tell the taxi "Hotel Mirador en Cho-que-cha-ca" and you'll figure it out.

Dear Marc,
Thank you very much for taking the time to write this review which will help our future guest. Thank you for your recommendation about the taxis. Strange thing as the hotel has been inaugurated almost 12 years ago.
Hopping to welcome you anytime in the near future to show you to "other", "non-conventional" Cusco, I remain.
Sincerely yours,

The hotel was of an unusual construction. The rooms were airy with good en-suite facilities. The reception area had nice seating with chairs and tables and this is where breakfast was served in the morning. There is complimentary tea and cocoa tea available in the lounge .This area was good for WiFi which was not always good in the rooms. This area was an atruim and as some of the rooms overlooked this, it was slightly noisy in the mornings (especially if you weren't catching the early train).
There are plenty of small bars and larger restaurants within a short walking distance of the hotel. The hotel has a terraced bar, but this was not open during our stay.
The older parts of Cusco are within a short walk of the hotel and well worth a vist to see the Inca architecture of Cusco. There are lots of covered markets and shops to buy Peruvian goods, though they don't barter.
We had a complimentary taxi to and from the airport (booked in advance), which is about 20 minutes drive away. The taxi to the station in the morning of our trip to Machupiccu to about 10 minutes.
Both my husband and I suffered from the altitude, which marred our stay, though this was no fault of the hotels.

Room Tip: Not all rooms had outside windows

Dear Reviewer,

Thank you very much for taking the time for writing this review which will be of great help to our future guests.

I would like to let you know that the hotel is located on authentic pre-inca foundations (stone walls in certain rooms and front facade of the hotel) of a colonial house, featuring a nice central patio (typical of colonial spanish houses).

Hoping to welcome you again anytime in the future and show you the "other", non-conventional but not less interesting Cusco,

I remain.
