“GOOD FOR BACKPACKERS”
Reviewed 8 October 2013 via mobile

good stuff:

-Great location in beautiful San Blas district.
-Very Nice social courtyard between the rooms.
-One of the hosts (Zeinada) is very friendly and helpful.
-Clean rooms
-hot water (most of the time)
-free airport/bus station pick up
-very good price

Bad stuff:

-building is in critical conditions
-bizarrely furnished bathroom fixtures. (Toilet seat is literally in the shower)
-lame breakfast

I personally enjoyed my stay at la samblena, but some people in my group hated it, and i can understand why.

This hospedaje is located in a beautiful and safe neighborhood, excellent for people who appreciate art and enjoy walking to different shops and restaurants, all in walking distance.
Moises and Zenaida, a young couple running this business, will make sure that you enjoy your time during your stay in Cusco. You will be treated like a friend, tours could be organized by the owners and you'll save some money and time.
The house is beautiful, not fancy but authentic. If you're expecting a 5 star hotel, luxury, and white glove service please look somewhere else.
Before you rate this place remember how much you are paying per night. You are getting in return an excellent location, great service, new friends, authentic fresh breakfast, and a new experience of staying in a colonial house.

I wanted to give it 3,5 stars.
Here are the pros and cons:
Pros:
1. Very good location (close to downtown but in a street without cars, which is a plus in Peru since Peruvians blow their horns nonstop, all day long, for no reason whatsoever).
2. Zenaida is very helpful and trustworthy.
3. Beds are ok. Rooms are clean. Showers are ok for Peruvian standarts.
4. Breakfast is ok.
5. Around 32 dollars for a double room with bathroom!
Cons:
1. Shower may malfunction now and then.
2. No heating in bedrooms.
3. Big uphill from the main square to the hotel, which is not easy at over 3 thousand meters high.
4. Very small towels and pillows for some reason.

All and all, for budget travellers, this is a great option. But, if you are looking for something comfortable, better look for something else, and reach down your pocket.

Room Tip: Chose the ones in the courtyard, especially with bathroom. Avoid the one in the back, with four be...

Upon arrival, we were impressed by the service: Moises, the owner, came to fetch us from the Bus terminal - he was there already even though we arrived 45min before schedule - at 5am! He also paid the taxi for us.
But there, the praise ends... The building is in a critical state (doors don't close properly, the balcony in front of the bedrooms is close to fall off). The breakfast is poor and the shower only sometimes warmish. The rooms are tiny and really dark, and parts of the bed fell off during lying down. However, it is a cheap option to sleep in Cusco and ok for a night or two.

The Sambleña is a very nice place cause is the typical cusqueña colonial house, nicely decorated and located in the beautiful neighborhood of San Blas, just four blocks from Plaza de Armas, the best neighborhood of Cusco. Very clean rooms and the owners, a young native couple, are very friendly and helpful

Beautiful bedrooms, nice acommodations and good service! The location was very good, very close from Plaza de Armas and a set of nice restaurants. The rooms were clean and looked cozy, we shared a bathroom but it was not a big deal for us now that we were just passing by the city.

Casa La Samblena is a small hostel type hotel. They have private rooms with washroom and shared as well. There are no toiletries provided (shampoo, soap and such) so bring your own. My room was facing the back and had a queen bed, single bed and private washroom. The hostel is owned by a wonderful couple that make you feel right at home. Continental breakfast is included, toast with butter and jam, tea and fresh juice. It's clean, quiet and cozy. Surprisingly for the price satellite TV and WIFI are also included...great deal! The location is EXCELLENT!!! Right in the heart of San Blas , 5min walk or less to Plaza de Armas, Main central square, and the Cathedral. To get the best price call the hotel straight or email them hospedajesamblena@gmail.com and the taxi ride from the airport should is $5-$7. I fell in love with this city and will be coming back to explore and stay at La Samblena.
