“Unique and charming boutique hotel”
Reviewed 17 June 2014

This hotel has to be the cutest place we ever stayed! The decor is adorable, with rocking horses, a fire pit, and a marketplace design in the restaurant and lounge. We had two rooms there during our three night stay. We loved them both, and would highly recommend this hotel as a place to stay before and after a trip to Machu Pichu. They kept out luggage for us, and we only took the bare essentials on the train. Breakfast is delicious and included. The beds are very comfortable and the rooms are nicely decorated. It is a short and safe walk to the Plaza, where there are plenty of shops and restaurants. The staff spoke English and were helpful with dining suggestions and directions. We actually ate two nights in the hotel restaurant. The menu was limited, but the food was interesting and well prepared.

Out of all 5 star hotels I stayed in during my trip to Peri, Mercado Tunqui is definitely the best. The location is very good, little bit off the main square so not so busy, but close enough to walk anywhere on foot (5 mins walking distance to plaza de arms).

The hotel is very new, it's beautiful and clean. The decors are very sweet, cosy and unique. I especially love the canteen where breakfast is served, lots of beautiful colors. The breakfast was very tasty, great pancakes and the freshly made fruit juice of choices.

We stayed in the junior suite, it was beautiful, with a massive bed which is so comfortable. The bathroom has a big bathhtub, a seperate shower and toilet and two sinks. There is also a walk in wardrobe/storage room. The fire place in the room is beautiful and we also spent some time drinking tea and relax at our private patio. There are fresh fruits and every night we receive 'good night' chocolates.

I also love the fire lit up in the evenings in the courtyard, we spent some very relaxing time there while drinking colca tea. The restaurant is also very good, I loved everything I ordered, it wasn't expensive neither. Everyone who works in this hotel are fantastic, warm, welcoming and respectful. I really can't find anything wrong with this hotel.

During our stay we left our bags in the hotel to do the Salkantay trek, when we returned to cusco after a week, our bags were already delivered to our rooms, the hotel manager left a sweet card with a box of chocolates and fruits, it was the sweetest thing ever. I am confident to say that the service standard of this hotel put many big name hotels in shame.

I will recommend this hotel to everyone I know and everyone wants to visit Cusco. Big thanks to everyone works in this hotel who made our stay so wonderful and special!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Room Tip: Junior suite is such a treat!!!! Try it.

I've been leading treks in Peru for the last six years and this past May was the first season we stayed at the El Mercado Hotel, what a treat it was. All of my clients loved it as did I. The best part of our stay was the friendly and attentive staff. The ambience is really nice and we all loved our stay. I will be back next May!

This small boutique hotel excels in service, comfort, and decor. Very friendly staff, free wi-fi, beautifully decorated rooms and comfortable beds. The central courtyard is perfect to relax or have a drink around the fire place in the evening. The breakfast happy room is cozy and the food fresh and plentiful. The theme of a "market" is so well done, from the flowers to the baskets, and fresh juices. The hotel is just three blocks from the San Pedro market, and the Plaza de Armas. The food is also interesting, with a new menu featuring Peruvian nouvelle cuisine.

Room Tip: Rooms opening into the courtyard have more light. The ones above the reception have a nice sitting...

I won't add to the reviews of dining etc. as it's all been said by previous reviewers, but suffice to say that the very best thing about this hotel is the staff. Their willingness, genuine helpfulness and efficiency were a welcome treat for us.

The hotel is comfortable, within easy 5 minute walking distance of both the plaza and a good supermarket, and a perfect place to unwind after a day's sightseeing. We particularly appreciated the hot-water bottles and tea/coffee making in the room. We would definately stay here again and recommend it to others.

The Hotel is beautiful and its location is awesome! It was at walking distance from Cusco’s main attractions, shops and the best restaurants in the city. This small boutique Hotel had a beautiful courtyard, where I personally enjoyed relaxing in the afternoon after a full day of excursions around the city. You have free books and travel guide that you can consult enjoying the peaceful atmosphere of the courtyard. Decoration is unique, with an amazing design style. Rooms are awesome, cozy and very functional. Beds are very comfortable with soft sheets and fluffy pillows. Bathroom is lovely, with rain shower style and the design in general is outstanding. The breakfast buffet combines both American and European styles and it was very good. I personally enjoyed the freshly made juices (you can actually combine different fruits and fresh vegetables). The small restaurant served tapas and nouvelle cosine, all cooked with fresh local ingredients. Everything was absolutely delicious and tasty! Staff is welcoming, professional and kind; they really know how to deal with guests and make your experience unforgettable. They were very helpful with me and my friends, giving us the best tips to enjoy our trip!

I think the most outstanding aspect of this hotel is the staff who are the warmest and most attentive young people I have ever encountered. They are absolutely unparalleled in their friendliness and service. It makes for a real treat. The rooms are cozy with hot-water heating in the walls. Each room has WiFi for great reception. For rooms with two beds, they are a little close together, but the showers and bathrooms are great. There is a central courtyard where they have a fire at night and there is an adjoining bar and restaurant that is excellent if you would like to eat in. The morning breakfasts are amongst the best I have encountered, and the warm and friendly staff make for a great start to your day. It is very central; an easy short walk to Plaza de Armas. Highly recommended.
