“More like a 2.5 star but really great location”
Reviewed 26 May 2013 via mobile

This is the 2nd Casa Andean Classic we have stayed at and unfortunately they all seem to follow the same template. Our hotels were booked though Trailfinders so I don't know how much we paid. The hotel is slightly better than a hostel - the room is about 5m x 5m with a very small dated bathroom. A tall large framed person would struggle to move in the shower. The bed is large but uncomfortable as it dips in the middle and there is an old musty smell about the place. We were lucky as we had a balcony and a great view (rm 322). Oh and there's no heating or air con so you better only come when the weather is perfect!! The small electric heater takes about 4 hours to warm the room. The breakfast is basic and I can't understand why they put out a poor choice of fruit when there is a large variety available in the markets. The scrambled egg is tasteless but the toast is good and the home made cake is delicious! The staff are helpful and due to the location it's great for sightseeing as everything is on your doorstep!

Stayed for one night before going on a 4-dau Inka Trail Hike. Check in was tediously slow. (not entirely their fault as all Peruvian hotels have this lengthy process) Were offered cocoa tea while we waited for check in process for about 20-25 minutes. Lobby was decent, but kinda small and cramped. After check in, we were taken to our room on the third floor, room 328. Basic room. Nothing fancy. Double beds, washroom. Standard amenities. One complaint was the heater. It was a plug in electric heater that did absolutely nothing to heat the room up. Luckily, they do provide extra blankets.
Overall, an average hotel with no real complaints. I would rate this hotel at 3 stars at the most. Great for overnight stays. If I were to stay in cusco for a longer time, I would definitely recommend something a little more comfortable and better appointed.

This is not a luxury property, but you probably already know that. It is, however, very clean and comfortable. The beds were comfortable (and I am very particular about this), which is important to me after a day and evening out. The staff was helpful. One of our group accidentally went to a nearby Casa Andina after shopping (there are 5 Casa Andina properties in the area) - he didn't have energy to walk to our hotel, so the other one called ours and said they were calling a taxi for him.

The breakfasts were sufficient, but not really good. I would give them 2 and a half stars for breakfast. Below average, but not poor.

Another slight negative is something I encounter in many hotels. I sleep with a window open at home and am used to fresh air. We had to have the windows locked for security (the 2nd floor looks out onto the roof next door, which could be an access point into our window), so at about 2:00 or 3:00 each morning I woke up feeling that there was no fresh air. This wasn't an altitude issue, as I didn't have any other symptoms. I did the same thing each night - I opened the bathroom window wide and let some fresh air in for a few minutes, then locked it again and was able to sleep.

Our group had three rooms. Two rooms on the 2nd floor were relatively quiet. One room on the first floor picked up all of the noise from the lobby. The first room given to the couple on the first floor smelled like paint or some other chemical. The hotel actually moved them without their complaining to a nicer room, but still on the first floor. On our first night there was a big noisy celebration at the Cathedral one block away that went on into the night, and that kept all of us awake for a few hours. The second night was quiet.

The location actually is great (despite my complaint about the noisy celebration) - a block from the Plaza de Armas and a lot of restaurants, shops, and sightseeing. We walked everywhere. We didn't use taxis until it was time to leave for the airport. We had already seen everything that we had time to see outside of Cusco, so our time spent at Casa Andina Cusco Plaza was time just to enjoy Cusco the city.

Note on shopping and restaurants: We were disappointed in the shopping in Cusco and wish we had shopped more in Lima and Pisac. Even in trying to buy Pisco to take home, the airport was cheaper that the markets in the tourist area of Cusco. There are a few lovely shops (Kuna, particularly) for alpaca items near this hotel. The restaurants that were recommended to us and we really enjoyed were Limo (facing the Plaza de Armas) and Cicciolina (about two blocks away, just off the plaza) for dinner, and Inka Grill for lunches.

We would return to this hotel, but just wish they would improve their breakfast quality.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the 2nd or higher floor (not the 1st floor) - but note that the 4th floor is where...

Thanks to the hotel staff (Michael and Marie, especially) who were very warm and knowledgeable, our stay in Cusco was wonderful. We stayed 3 days to acclimatize before a trek. The location is perfect, the hotel quiet despite its proximity to the main square. There is a lovely breakfast room with a buffet that was excellent! We had a reasonable price for the room, I suspect prices are steeper mid-May through August.

Our tour booked this hotel for us--hence no idea of the cost. However the hotel was very convenient to see downtown Cusco, great to get day tours, and truly charming. The staff was superb and extremely helpful. The included breakfast was very good. Would definitely stay here again and Cusco is a town worth seeing.

Our party of six stayed here on two occasions for several days. The location is excellent, just a short stroll to the main square with its impressive buildings and multiple restaurants. This was potentially a problem (for the hotel but not for us) as we could choose from many good eating places at a fraction of the cost charged by the hotel's own restaurant. All of the rooms were quiet, clean and reasonably spacious and the staff were excellent. The building itself is a lovely old arab influenced mansion built around courtyards. This results in a terrific feel with lots if interesting nooks. The only small negative was the lack of small details such as bottled water in the rooms. In a place where you don't drink the tap water, this is an issue if you arrive late, as we did.

Room Tip: The rooms at the rear of the property are further from the street and main service areas, As a resul...
