“Great stay”
Reviewed 13 November 2013 via mobile

Chose this hotel based on TA reviews and found everything as expected or better. The value for the money is great. Very charming hotel on a colonial house. Great service, very clean. The little inside patios and views are delightful.
A nice breakfast is included and they have an inhouse restaurant that might be convenient, although there are better places to eat within waking distance.
And probably the best is the location! 2 blocks from Plaza de Armas in one of the best neighborhoods in Cusco.

Stayed at both the Amaru I and Amaru II Hostel. Rooms are very well appointed, carved wood, private bathrooms, comfortable bed. The hostels themselves are extremely well kept colonial buildings with interior courtyards. Free tea throughout the day and very good breakfast in the morning. For its price range, you would be hard-pressed to find anything better in Cusco.

Room Tip: Try and get a room on the upper floor to avoid the noise of people walking above you.

We spent two nights in this hostel before Inca trail and one night after. The location is perfect, only few minutes from the main square. The breakfasts are fine (fresh orange juice, coffee/tea, fruit salad, eggs, bread, butter and marmelade). The staff was nice and helpful. There was no problem with leaving some of our luggage in the hostel during Inca trail, the hostel provides laundry service as well. We had room number 001, with two big windows with a very nice view of Cusco city. The hostel is overall very cosy.

The room (001) was a bit noisy, in the evening we could hear steps of people in the above room. Within the breakfast, if you order tea, they provide you with one tea bag and you cannot have more, but, if you order cofee, you can have additional cup, it is no problem. I really do not understand why :-)

On our 2-week tour through Peru, organised by safe-in-lima, this hotel was our favourit.
Nice clean building with a cosy colonial feeling, more than decent large rooms (we stayed there twice), perfect location in the artist-neighbourhood. We never had a problem with watertemperature. Nice and polite personnel.
We enjoyed the breakfast very muh. We would definitly stay here again.

Pros: 1) Distance to the main square: 10 minutes max. Really close to Plaza Des Armas. 2) Distance to our favorite food place, Jacks Café: like 5 stores down. It’s so convenient when you don’t want to wander around looking for a place to eat. 3) Coca Tea: It was always free flowing in the court yard.

Cons: 1) Hot Water. Okay- this is my #1 Complaint of this place. I took showers on two occasions at this place, and realized that during the night, the water is hot for about 1 minute (scalding hot by the way), and then it slowly starts to cool down, and then, before you know it, it’s completely cold. The water from the shower head also sprays everywhere, so get ready for a completely wet bathroom after the shower. My friend took showers in the morning, and didn’t have the same temperature issue. So my recommendation: take showers in the morning. 2) Dungeon like feel: Out of all of the places we stayed at during our time in Peru, this was the most dark, and dim hostal/hotel. The stone walls made you feel a little like you were a prisoner stuck in medieval times and locked up in an underground dungeon. This combined with the water issue from the shower head created a really gross damp moisture odor.

For $55 (£35/S160) this is easily the best value hotel in the San Blas area of Cusco. We stayed in two different rooms in two nights as we picked up the last of their availability. The first room 106 was a small little gem of a double room opening out onto a court yard with great views across the city. The room had a great feature wall with boulders and rocks protruding from it behind the bed. The second room, 206, was a nice double but wasn't as interesting nor did it have the views of 106.
Showers = powerful & hot!
Service = always with a smile!
Breakfast = standard for Peru...ok.

You won't do better for price & value in the San Blas area of Cusco...definitely recommended.

Room Tip: 106 - Opens onto a lovely courtyard overlooking Cusco city
