“great hotel!”
Reviewed 20 August 2008

great hotel! the staff was VERY kind!!! (especially raphael) the hotel is very clean, the breakfast is very good, they pack you a wonderful lunch for your trip to machu picchu, they always give you wake-up calls, free internet access, are always available to take you into town and to pick you up (at any time), great recommendations of restaurants and where to visit, free 24-hour tea, etc. I would highly recommend this hotel. Eventhough the hotel is not right in the center of town, it is only a 10 minute drive and its probably better for you since you dont want to walk too much in the high altitude. WONDERFUL TIP: we booked the private taxi/tour guide through the hotel and it was soooo worth it! We had a WONDERFUL guide (diana) and she was so knowledgeable! We really feel that we learned so much about the Inca culture and Cuzco in general because it was just one-on-one and we didn't need to deal with a tour company. We could go at our own pace since it was just us. We only paid $40 for the city tour (about 4 hours) and $100 for the ALL-DAY sacred valley tour. It is really worth it because you learn so much more than you would going with a big tour group. I really recommend it!! We had Diana as our tour guide, and Santiago as our driver. Diana is VERY intelligent, knowledgeable, enthusiastic and she knows so much about the Inca and Cuzco culture. I cant recommend it enough for you to take the private tours!!!1

We stayed at Torre Dorada during our recent stay in Cuzco. Our room was clean, had a huge comfortable bed and was more than adequate for our needs. Where this hotel gets it right is with the service. I can honestly say that the service from the Torre Dorada was on par and more personal than that of the Sanctuary Lodge (at over $800 US/night!). Raphael was always on top of making sure we got to where we needed to go and got there safely. Peggy, the owner was a regular fixture and everyone knew your name from the time they greeted you at the airport on. We got great tips on where to go and help when we needed it. We left very breakable things with them during our Machu Picchu trek and everything was there and in the same condition we left it in. The hotel has a unique lay out with common sitting rooms with Hot water for tea and coffee as well as couches/chairs for reading and TV's. Super experience, I would suggest them to everyone! Outstanding value!

We booked Torres online without really knowing what to expect and were very pleasantly surprised. Very comfortable beds, great bed linen and a nice buffet breakfast, about 4* in quality. Some of the rooms have great views, we had problems finding another place to stay and wanted to stay an extra night so Peggy, the owner hurried up the conversion of the dining room on the top floor to a bedroom and put us in there (thats what I call service!). That is what sets this hotel apart from the rest, exception service and very friendly and helpful staff the equal of any 5* establishments I have syaed in anywhere in the world. The hotel is a 10 min drive out of the centre but this really wasn´t a problem as the hotel car will pick you up and take to into Cuso (a VERY efficient service). Highly recommended.

After all the fabulous reveiws we just had to stay here! And we loved the staff and the service! It was second to none!

The only thing we had trouble with, was our room was directly beneath the breakfast room - so we could hear everything from talking to scraping chairs on floors. And we could also hear room to room noises- so then we tried to be very quiet knowing what we could hear next door!

Met some lovely people there and loved the little area to read books and watch tv in the middle of the rooms.

Great welcoming spot - !

I booked this hotel after reading other people's comments and was gratified to see that everything was true. It's a marvelous hotel - clean and comfortable with great breakfasts served in a room with marvelous view of Cusco. What really sets this hotel apart is the service provided, most especially assistance with touring. Of all the people I contacted about going to Machu Picchu the travel service they worked with was straightforward, honest and easy to work with (even long distance via email). The one negative that I've seen people talk about is actually a positive, and that is the location. It is in a quiet residential neighborhood away from the constant noise of the city center. The hotel provides taxi service to and from the city center and I never had to wait more than 10 minutes for a cab. I can't recommend this hotel enough.

This place was absolutely fantastic, they really can't do enough for you. The rooms were clean, showers hot and the buffet breakfast was wonderful.

What really set this place apart was the customer service. I really felt taken care of, as we'd leave in the morning they's ask whether we had sun screen and hats!! when we arrived we were told what to do to avoid altitude sickness.

They recommended trips to take and places to eat and drink that used traveller friendly water and included in the price was a taxi service to and fron the centre of Cusco.

On the morning we left to go on the Inca trail we were given a little packed lunch to take away which I thought was lovely.

I would recommend this hotel to anyone it's fab.

Agree with everything everyone has said, but just wanted to say that they ask you to pay in cash or else pay an extra 8% on top to cover charges if you pay by credit card. Apart from that, nice people. friendly, helpful, good breakfast and coca tea avaialble on every floor 24 hours a day.
