Torre Dorada is simply lovely - modern and fairly new. It's located in a residential district, but not far from the center. Our arrival confused the owners, though, because they had expected to pick us up at either the airport, train, or bus station. We arrived by cab, with the driver who had driven us around from Ollantaytambo for the previous two days, so they thought we didn't have a reservation.

We were met by Peggy and her brother, Oscar. Once the initial confusion was cleared up, check-in was efficient, friendly, and welcoming. Peggy made me a pot of the best strong coffee I had in Cusco, which was brought to the small central lounge/TV area on the second floor, where our room was. It was served elegantly, and was a good introduction to the grace and class with which this hotel is run.

Our room was small, but cozy, pretty and comfortable, and the bath was bright, modern, and spotless, as was the room. The room had a portable heater for the chilly nights, and bottled water was provided. Although the bathroom was very small, this was one of the rare times that there was a shelf above the pedestal sink, so we had a place to put our stuff. It was also the only place we stayed at in the four countries we visited that provided washcloths.

A nice breakfast was served in two sunny rooms with large glass windows on the top floor. Even though this was Cusco, with so much to see and do, it was so pleasant to start the day this way that we lingered far longer than we should have each morning.

We didn't mind not staying in the very center of town, because transportation to and from other areas in town is included in the price of the room. Either Oscar or Arturo, the other brother, would drive us in or pick us up. We had no trouble calling for a ride back from restaurants or stores, but could have used pay phones if necessary, using a 50-centavo piece. One night we were in the main square until late, after all the restaurants had closed, and there was no problem getting picked up. Not only was this terrific, it also made us feel safer - we felt that there were people "back home" who knew where we'd gone, and who'd know if we didn't make it back. We did have to take a taxi to get to Sacsayhuaman, but that was the only time we did. And Oscar even drove us to the airport when we left Cusco to fly to Puno.

There is a computer with internet in the lobby, and there is a charge of 4 soles a day for it - but only if you use it.

All three - Peggy, Oscar and Arturo - were extremely helpful, knowledgeable, and friendly, and genuinely cared about guests enjoying their stay at Torre Dorada.

My only complaint, which I did voice to the owners, was that I was not aware beforehand that the hotel was non-smoking, since there was no mention of it anywhere on the hotel's website. I don't like this kind of surprise, but there was a table, chairs, umbrella and ash tray in the pretty little garden in front of the entrance. And because Torre Dorada is run with such care and concern, it demanded the same kind of respect. It was probably the only time I absolutely didn't smoke in the room, even once!

Staying at Torre Dorada was such a wonderful experience that I felt almost teary-eyed leaving it, and I can't recommend it highly enough.

Our stay at the Torre Dorada was fantastic. Peggy and her staff really made us feel part of the family and her advice on what to do in our short time in town really helped. Located in a quiet part of the city, the free transfers to and from the town center and airport, train station etc were really useful. We would not hesitate to recommend this lovely little hotel to anyone.

We needed a hotel for one night after Machu Picchu before we flew out the next morning and Torre Dorada was perfect. We arrived by taxi in the early evening, Oscar took us to the wonderful restaurant Heidi for dinner and again to the airport the next morning. (We tipped him.) We left at 6 am, too early for breakfast but Peggy kindly put out some coffee cake for us to munch on before we left. This place is really fantastic, $60 seems too little a price. You will wish for many days to stay here but it is also ideal for one night, Peggy speaks fluent english and is very helpful. We would stay here again in a heartbeat, we wanted twin beds, not sure if they have other choices.

At first I was a bit skepital about only paying $60/night but I had no reason to fear. This is a fantastic hotel with plenty of hot water and a fabulous breakfast (be sure to have the fresh squeezed orange juice) located in a residential area of Cusco.
It is a quiet neighbourhood, a 10 min ride from the Plaza de Armes. It is true that they provide you with a free shuttle service to and from downtown and the airport. If we return to Cusco we will be sure to stay there again.

Their service was outstanding, the room was spotless and they have very comfortable beds. Be sure to go go to Heidi's for dinner.

In our three week stay in Peru this was by far the most wonderful place we stayed in. It is a real gem and Peggy along with her family cannot do enough for their guests.

Peggy showed us around Cusco the day we arrived as we were leaving very early the next morning for Machu Picchu and flying out the next morning. They even arranged our trip to Machu Picchu before we arrived.

Torre Dorada is a lovely, warm and very clean home away from home. Breakfast was delicious with nice views of Cusco.

Being picked up at the airport upon arrival and driven back to the airport when leaving is just the best service when arriving in an unfamiliar place.

I read the number 1 ranking and all the great reviews on TripAdvisor, and thought it was too good to be true. Well it´s true! Peggy, Rose Marie, Oscar and the rest of the staff were great hosts, and the hotel is spotless, with plenty of hot water, and in a nice quiet neighborhood. Who could ask for more? You won´t find anything better at any price, in Cusco or anywhere.

We feel fortunate to have found the Torre Dorada through the Lonely Planet and then checking it out via their web site. This hotel is in a residential area of Cusco. While it is a little inconventient being away from the Plaza de Armas, the family will drive and pick you up at any time. When we wanted to take a taxi back after dinner one night, they said absolutely not and insisted on our calling for a ride.
The Torre Dorada is owned and run by Peggy and her wonderful brothers and sister-in-laws. Peggy has lived in many places and is a very well traveled woman who is a great resource for information and help. We loved just sitting and chatting with her.
The hotel is spotless and the breakfast and breakfast room are a delight with a lovely view of the north of Cusco. It was a great place to chat with other travelers in the am.
We would not stay anywhere but this place if we returned to Cusco. Sara and Jerry Reisman
