“wonderful staff and awesome hot showers!”
Reviewed 26 August 2013

Corihuasi was a great stay in Cusco - the location, albeit up a VERY steep road, is located just off the main square. the rooms are simple, but have everything you need. our group of 4 had 2 rooms, and the main light in my room did not work, but everything else was fine - the beds were very comfy and had a great warm comforter on them, and our shower was divine - great water pressure and constantly hot - best shower on our whole trip! breakfast and wi-fi were free as well. the staff, especially Ernesto at reception, were wonderful. we arrived to Corihuasi late in evening, with plans to go white water rafting the next morning in Sacred Valley. Ernesto kindly informed us that there was a strike going on in region the next day, and said we should check with our rafting tour company about the status of our trip. he helped us contact them, and indeed, the trip had been cancelled because of strike. that was a bummer, but it would have been more frustrating to be uninformed and get up early to wait around for nothing. Ernesto was helpful throughout our short time there with information and directions when we needed it. this place is a great value - if you are on a lower-mid range budget, i highly recommend it!

We had hoped to stay in a nice hostel our last night in Cusco as a treat, and after our incredible experiences at Eco Packers and Hotel Madre Tierra, we were very excited for Corihuasi.

First off, they didn't have our reservation on the books, which was extremely annoying. The room we wanted was taken, so we stayed in another room (room 8) with "panoramic views". Total bull, the room had a small window with a big sign that said "DO NOT LEAVE VALUABLES NEAR WINDOW." The room itself was barely big enough to fit a queen sized bed, and the bathroom, with a toilet a few feet from the bed, had a slotted door that gave absolutely no privacy or stink protection. Overall a lousy experience, and such a shame after the amazing ones we had elsewhere.

And the real kicker? This was the most expensive hotel we stayed at our entire time in Peru. We may have just gotten a bad room / grumpy concierge, so we can't speak to the whole place, but our experience was not great.

Room Tip: Don't stay in room 8. It's haunted. Just kidding. It just sucks.

We planned on staying three nights here but enjoyed it so much we spend another three.

This hostal is very close to the main square and offers brilliant views over the shiny lights of Cusco in most of it's rooms.

We were welcomed with some coca thee and have been helped a great deal by the staff.

We stayed in 4 rooms, only 1 was a bit small but we knew in advance. Overall good showers, very cozy feeling in this classic building. good breakfast and perfect location for Cusco.

Let me start by saying that people that run this place are rather nice. The place, however, needs some major improvements.
1. There isn't a constant source of heat. You will find a portable heater in your room, but the room itself is very cold. This unfortunately spoiled my trip because I got sick after spending the night at a very cold room. I ended up moving to a hotel, even though I paid for two nights.
2. Location of this place is hard to find and hard to get to. It is located on a rather steep hill, which without altitude adjustments is not a huge deal, but for people arriving to Cusco and adjusting to thin air, this hill is no joke.
If you are getting a cab, get a small car and insist on the driver to going up the hill.
3. The room is extremely basic. There are cold stone floors with little coverings, so pack some slippers. The towels are thin and old, and some basic toiletry is provided.
4. Now on to the good. The views this hostal provides are very nice. If you email in advance, they will provide transportation free of charge.
If you plan to do trekking, add a few dollars and spend the night at the hotel - it will guarantee your health is not compromised for the hike and the remainder of the trip.

We appreciated that Corihuasi is well versed in helping travelers with the logistics of visiting the area. They were more than pleased to store the luggage we couldn't take on PeruRail to Machu Picchu for two nights until we finally checked in in Cusco. We received a VERY comfortable, big suite which was a good value for the money. You are going to get a little exercise here, tho. It's a bit of a hump to get up the hill from the Plaza de Armas, and also our room was up and down four or five different staircases. The desk staff were very helpful, however. My only other complaint was that the WiFi network that was supposed to work in the rooms did not. The network in the lobby worked fine, tho.

A good choice for a budget stay in Cusco - which is not easy to find. In Cusco terms this hostal is good value. The Corihuasi has a great location close to the Plaza de Armas, and some rooms have wonderful views over the city...while others have no view at all and are a bit dingy. Breakfast is just about adequate, as long as you eat eggs. Otherwise its very limited. The rooms are clean but the beds a bit soft. But then Cusco is for walking and sightseeing, so you don't spend much time in the room. Sadly the whole Cusco/Maccu Pichu experience has become an overpriced tourist honey pot. If you are spending a small fortune to visit Maccu Pichu, don't bother with the other old Inca ruins near Cusco...such as the fortress of Sasqawan above Cusco...a beautiful walk up the mountain (though we didn't see any other walkers, just hordes of tourist buses), only to be asked for $100 dollars for a family of 3 for entry to see a fairly unimpressive ruin.....more old stones of the type you will see in Maccu Pichu anyway. Overpricing and greed is spoiling this destination.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view!

Really enjoyed my stay at Corihuasi. I stayed at The Point for the first few days in Cusco, which was fun, but it was party central and I didn't get a whole lot of sleep. I moved over to Corihuasi for the night before my Machu Picchu hike; I really appreciated the tranquility of the setting. It's a bit of a hike uphill to get there, but the view makes it worth it. They have a sweet wraparound balcony where you can look down on the city. The rooms themselves were comfortable for two and also quite. Also, good hot showers. We woke up very early for the hike and they had a nice breakfast laid out.
