Casa Andina Standard Cusco San Blas
Ranked #52 of 172 Hotels in Cusco
Reviewed 25 August 2009

We booked our stay in Casa Andina- San Blas in part because after doing research they described San Blas as the artist district. We knew that San Blas was also a short downhill walk to the Plaza de Armas. We do not regret our decision. You get very good views from this boutique hotel and Plaza de Armas is a 10 minute walk. There is also very good shopping in San Blas.

Staff
First of all, the staff are incredible. Jesus greeted us with a very much needed coca tea within minutes of arrival- they have coca tea and coca leaves in the lobby. The staff were genuinely nice and fulfilled all of our requests. When we wanted to book a tour they brought a tour operating company to the hotel, since we did not want to book a trip in the main square. Wilbert made all of our dinner reservations. Overall, the staff made our stay. On our last day, it was my husband's birthday and they even brought out two pieces of chocolate cake in our morning buffet.

Rooms/Hotel
The rooms are quaint but well-priced. We stayed in Room 208 and we could see the views of the city and the mountains. The hotel has a nice lobby with rich colorful couches. It also has a bar area with a fireplace and a nice sitting area that overlooks a small courtyard with a fountain. It also has a small gift shop and free internet access.

Buffet
The room we booked included a continental breakast, but the breakfast in the morning had a very nice spread of breads, eggs, bacon and different types of peruvian fruit jams.

We would recommend this hotel, especially because of the warm and friendly staff.

We stayed at Casa Andina San Blas before and after the Inca Trail. We loved the hotel. It is well located 10-15 minutes from the main square with fantastic views from the balconies overlooking the courtyard. We didn't try the restaurant for dinner but breakfast was very good. The staff were amazing, nothing seemed too much trouble.

The rooms were mostly fine albeit some were on the small side and they did tend to vary in quality. Avoid room 215 at all costs. Its small and poky with no opening window, and the only daylight into the room is from a window which looks out on the corridor whicheveryone uses for going to the restaurant, so the curtains have to be closed permanently. Room 315 on the floor above is only a little better, but room 415 the floor above that was great, with virtually its own private seating area (perfect for reading in the middle of the night when unable to sleep due to jet lag).

There was a computer with free internet access, but used frequently by all guests.

Can't comment on value as we booked as part of a bigger package.

My friends and I stayed at the Casa Andina San Blas for 3 nights. It was an amazingly warm and welcoming place. The staff is exceptional in assuring that no need or want of their guest's goes unmet. We felt totally at home in the city we now call our favorite place in Peru. We would highly recommed this hotel to those headed for Macchu Pichu or surrounding sights.

This is a good place to stay -- good value for money. I particularly appreciated the helpful and friendly staff, who went out of their way to look after us.
Major pluses: excellent staff, and location.
Negatives: the restaurant isn't great, but there are loads of places to eat nearby. The doors are thin, so sounds from the outside tend to get through, and be sure to specify that you want a room with a view onto Cusco, rather than onto the inside courtyard. Don't book a ground floor room with a window into the hallway...

Located near the lively and artsy Plaza San Blas, the hotel is a couple of blocks away from the noise but near enough to the action. This hotel is not good for people who are having trouble adjusting to the altitude as it is at the top of a steep grade and I found myself huffing and puffing and I am a runner. The hotel also has a good number of unavoidable stairs and no elevator. There is a free computer and printer in the lobby and a very good breakfast with a few hot items. The heaters in the rooms are all portable and not terribly effective. The lightbulbs in the room and bathroom are pretty weak (like 40 watts) and I had to shave near the window in the bedroom. Some of the rooms only had windows into the hallway and not windows that faced outside. The personnel were cheerful and helpful especially during the strikes that were going on while we were there. The chef saw me carrying my luggage when I was checking out and came to help. I would stay at this hotel again.

My husband and I stayed here for 5 nights in May. The staff was excellent. It was a great place to get acclimated to the elevation. Comfy, clean rooms. Great outdoor space with view of the city from the room. Nice restaurant with a very good included breakfast. I would definitelly stay here again.
