“Good choice for the Cusco visiter”
Reviewed 13 June 2014

It pays to choose your hotel in Cusco with care (coldness and lack of cleanliness being the main issues) - we felt we did well with the Alemana. Our room was clean, comfortable and very cosy with the electric heater on. Unlike some hotels in the narrow streets of San Blas, the Alemana can be reached by taxi (just), which is handy when burdened by luggage on arrival and departure.

The hotel is well set up to deal with the needs of the typical Cusco visitor (luggage storage, liaising with tour operators, returning duffel bags after a hike etc). Our visit and tours all worked seamlessly, thanks in no small part to the Alemana.

A final mention must be made of the outstanding views of Cusco from the hotel - these alone would justify a short stay at the Alemana.

Pension Alemana was a great place to stay. We really liked staying in San Blas despite it being a bit of a walk to the main square. Staff were very helpful and allowed us to leave our bags for five days when we went on a trek. The shower was great and very hot and there is a good breakfast and tea and fruit available all day. The only drawbacks are that we were in the room just above the lobby (I think #202). It was very loud - it is basically right on the street so you hear that (and can't really have the windows open) plus everyone coming in and out of the lobby. It was also two twin beds pushed together and made separately and the room was absolutely freezing. There was a portable electric heater in the room but it didn't seem to do much. When we returned we asked for a different room and it was much better - with a view and quieter although we still had two twin beds and one was lower than the other which was awkward.

Highly recommended oasis! Cant say enough good things! Charming setting in San Blas, with lovely garden and great day and night views of the city below. Best of all, it was quiet allowing for best sleep of our trip, in comfortable beds, and heater at night kept us cozy despite chilly May nights. Very nice breakfast room had more city views, served eggs made to order, and was a pleasant place to exchange tips with fellow travellers. Front desk staff were also the most friendly & accommodating of anywhere we've stayed in Peru.

Other pluses: fruit and tea in lobby, computer access, lots of places to sit and talk with guests or guides, reasonably priced fast laundry service. Only downside is the climb up the hill can be daunting, and the 5s cab fare from downtown, while cheap, is sometimes slow due to the narrow streets causing backups.

Room Tip: Rm 301 has part garden, part city view, twin beds, and is quiet and away from any possible noise fro...

We stayed two nights a the Pension Alemana, with one night in-between when we did a two-day tour. The staff was very friendly and many of them spoke English. The hotel is nice, clean, and has a beautiful garden. We could leave our luggage there during our two-day trip and it was safe. The location is great - in walking distance to the main Plaza. The breakfast buffet is very good, with lots of healthy choices. Overall it was a fantastic stay.

We stayed here for 3 nights last week. We received a very enthusiastic greeting when we arrived and the woman who greeted us was quick to brew some coco tea to prevent altitude sickness. Complimentary tea and drinking water were also available the entire time. The hotel is very pretty with a garden and a bit of a Swiss Alpine feel. Our room was comfortable and had a view overlooking all of Cusco. The showers were hot and the electric heater was greatly appreciated. We enjoyed breakfast each morning from the beautiful restaurant on the top floor with stunning views.

The hotel is located about a 10 minute walk uphill from Plaza de Armas, through some very pretty streets and courtyards. We never felt unsafe walking in this area at night. The streets surrounding Plaza de Aramas are very loud, so the location, 10 minutes away from the square, is perfect. You can also easily walk to Sacsayhuaman from the hotel.

Finally, the hotel held our bags for 3 days while we traveled through the Sacred Valley. When we returned, the staff at the front desk greeted us like old friends, and our luggage was waiting in a new room for us. We were exhausted from our travels and this was such a nice touch.

Highly recommend!

My boyfriend & I recently stayed 4 nights here. 2 @ beginning of our trip & 2 @ the end. Such a nice place to come back to! Up on the hill, so great views, & yes hike up there each day as well. Lovely ladies at front desk helped us plan excursions & booked taxis for us. When taxi would arrive they would explain the plan & re confirm price. This made for wonderful experiences to Pisac & 3 other ruins on the way home. We enjoyed the wifi that had a signal most of the time. Nice place to stay.

Since last year we stayed again at this family led hotel. In the meantime the owners have added a lovely panoramic cafeteria, named 7&7. This stands for 7 devils and 7 angels, which decorate the 3rd floor cafeteria, from where you will be delighted with the view over the historic center of Cusco. Aromatic coffee from the Cusco jungle area, home made bread, juices at reasonable price, wine and pisco sour and a selection of 7 dishes, 7 sandwiches, 7 cakes, etc. Safe and delicious, especially try the brave potatoes with highland yellow tubers.
Breakfast - juice, coffee, diversity of bread, BUTTER, fruit, granola with Andean grains like Quinua and Cañihua, cheese, avocado, freshly brewed coffee, eggs, joghurt - just what we needed to start the day.
What else to say: rooms and service the same as last year in January, friendly staff, we already knew from the previous visits, clean, safe, with a flowery garden full in the middle. Free fruit available. Wifi free of charge, even if you only go into the cafeteria for a coffee from the Italian espresso machine. Heaters and Satellite TV in the rooms. We will come back, as we are lodged in San Blas - outside of the noise of the center and its bars - and in 10 minutes we can walk to the main square near the Inca Museum. If you can not walk the way back up the hill, just hop on a taxi and for 4 soles (1.5 $) you are back home.

Room Tip: Higher up floors give you a wonderful view.
