So enjoyed the "luxury promotion" that Peru Rail was offering. We took the Vistadome train into Aguas Calientes - wonderful views from the windows on the ceiling and a lovely breakfast to get the day started. After two days at Machu Picchu including a stimulating climb up Huayna Picchu we finished the day by having tea and wonderful appetizer/dessert buffet at the Sancutuary Lodge. Then the bus took us to the train station where we enjoyed champagne or pisco sours in the first class lounge plus hot damp towels to freshen up. Then the biggest treat of all - boarding the Hiram Bingham Train - 3.5 hours of first class travel back to Cusco. The interior very elegant, the food wonderful, lots to drink and great live entertainment made for a top shelf experience. It was dark most of the way back so I would recommend the Vistadome going into Aguas Calientes but this is the only way out!!!

We took the regular train from Cuzco (actually Poroy, 20 minutes from Cuzco by taxi) to Machu Picchu, and after a wonderful day touring the ancient lost city, came back via the Hiram Bingham train. This is absolutely the very best way one could experience this magical day. The Hiram Bingham is an older, restored train with beautiful, wood paneled cars, a spectacular dining car and a bar car that is as much fun as going out on the town. The 3 1/2 hour ride home seemed to fly by, as we had a delicious dinner, wine and drinks included, and then moved on to the party in the bar car, where a 3 piece band played for 2 hours. People were dancing, singing along and generally having a ball. The luxurious train and ambience was the perfect way to relax after a long day. I would never do it any other way

Peruvian musicians and dancers great you as you board the Agatha Christie-styled train. Champagne with piscoe thrust into your hands as you board at 9:00am. Chardonnays at 10:00 as we wind our way through spectacular mountains and rivers eating a 5-star 3-course lunch. Is there any better way to travel to Macchu Picchu?

This was a great way to travel to Augua Caliente to catch the bus...got to see the countryside by train and the seats were quite comfortable, as you are seated in groups of 4, facing each other, so conversation with strangers starts easily. It is quite busy at the train stations, so be prepared. Often lines at the bathrooms, which there are only a couple, but they are very clean.
