“They did a good job for me!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 August 2012 via mobile

I found the bed could have been better, the rooms noisy due to the lobby location, the and the room chilly. Coca tea readily available for fatigue and altitude sickness.
OK, having said all that, the location was terrific, the internet worked here better than most places, the staff hardworking and very accommodating, and really nice.
They did a good job for me and I had an excellent stay.
Some challenges as listed above, but I would stay again. I found my experience typical of the area, so really not bad for the price.

I was very impressed with the Hotel staff who spoke good English and ensured we had a very comfortable stay. The rooms are small but very cozy and compact. They serve breakfast from 5am to cater to tourists visiting Machu Pichhu by 6am train. I had dinner once and it was good. I would recommend this Value for Money hotel to International tourists. They offer lesser rate to tourists compared to Peruvian nationals, which is almost 20 soles less for a night.

Room Tip: Choose a room on the 1st floor. The rooms on ground floor can be noisy sometimes

The good: nice foyer with lots of plants and fountain; Service and breakfast was adequate; very nice and extrememly helpful staff; close to town within walking distance to Plaza de Armas and all the shops etc.
The bad: bed was hard as a rock--felt like sleeping on a pool table; heater was on a timer and did not stay on..

We stayed here for a few nights before and after a short break away at Machu Pichu (and Agues Calientes).

The lobby area is very impressive - a colonial style 3 or 4 tiered balcony surrounded internal courtyard. Our room was abolsutely fine. I've read reviews about people complaining about the noise, but we didn't suffer from this. It's a hotel, with a unique style, with flagstone floors, so if someone is wheeling a suitcase across it, it will make a noise. But the flagstone floor helps make the ambiance of the hotel. We slept just fine.

The staff were a great help and we found them to be as friednly as everywhere else we stayed in Peru (ie very).

It's located a little bit of a walk to the centre - we stuck to 3 tried and tested routes. The obvious route is a bit bland, but by taking a couple of side streets you see so much more culture and it's more interesting. Don't recall it taking long to get to the central square at all -maybe 5 mins?

Our rooms were good (allocated a different one on return from Machu Pichu) - nicely decorated. Not massive, but a good, comfortable size and we loved the decor.

Breakfast was very nice in a lovely room. In fact, the hotel is full of very interesting, and old looking (possibly genuine I've no idea) old artifacts and pictures and style. It oozed style from a by-gone era. We loved it.

We'd definitely stay here again if we return to Cusco and would reocmmend it to friends. If you like spotless, formulaic, sterile places to stay, then I'm sure you'll find these places elsewhere in Cusco. If you want to stay somewhere with a unique style and je ne sais qoi, and offering good value for money, then look no further.

Oh and we'll also remember it as the place we watched Prince William and Kate Middleton get married, live on the TV.

The hotel was a ten minute walk from the center of the tourist area - I love to walk but with the altitude I'd say this was at the limit of how far I'd want to be from that area. The room was clean and they had free coca tea at all times and a very average buffet breakfast available. Tiny television but it had a good array of channels in several languages. The room safe had a huge key - a code would have been better. They had fast free WiFi in the lobby which I greatly appreciated. I found the staff polite and reasonably helpful; they were able to change some dollars into soles for me once but then ran out of change later.

I travel with a white noise generator but I would have had trouble sleeping without one because of the unusual layout of the hotel - all of the rooms face into an enclosed giant lobby, and the tile floors make the sound quite loud. The bathroom consistently stank of sewage and the bathroom door sometimes wouldn't close which then stank up the room. The shower had hot water and good pressure, and the bathroom was otherwise clean, it was a venting problem. (I had the last room on the first floor opposite the lobby).

Despite a facade of politeness and friendliness, the staff of Munay Wasi our arrogant, rude and impolite.
When queried about a pair of trousers that were missing (that were left on the bed), they immediately became very defensive, so much so that the manager came and abused us,
claiming that "it couldnt possibly have been his staff, but rather us 'foreigners' who are 'always careless, forgetful and absentminded' and are just looking for someone to blame".

Despite calmly explaining that i had been wearing them the night before travelling to Machu Picchu and didnt take them to Machu Picchu so thus MUST be in his hotel, he dismissed this logic arrogantly and impolitely, storming off without even a hint of an apology.

If not a peruvian (and thus a 'foreigner') i suggest it would be wise to 'forget' this hotel on any planned trips to cusco.
sincerely yours,
forgetful foreigner

Room Tip: Dont pick any room, unless you have a substantial array of locks, your belongings WILL go "miss...
