We had 2 nights at the Eco Inn while we toured Machu Picchu and the Sacred Valley. It is apparently considered a 3-4 star hotel and is thus used by many tour companies herding large groups of tourists through the same itinerary. As a result, the front desk staff and restaurant are completely overwhelmed most of the evening and morning. If you want a meal at night you are better off walking out on the street (to nearby La Cabana) than waiting on your food at the Eco Inn restaurant - though the pizza my daughter got after an hour wait at Eco was indeed excellent.

The facilities are very nice, rooms clean and location is excellent. They just need to hire more help.

Room Tip: Elevators are small and have no arrival chime, leading to traffic jams in the lobby. Ask for a room...

Good that breakfast was served at 5am before our 5.30am pickup for the 4-day Inca Trail. After the trail, we checked back in the same hotel & our bags were already waiting for us in our room. Everything was great, room, breakfast, overall staff service until check out. We were forced out of our rooms at 10 am. That was after an extension given to us by the unfriendly lady at the reception who informed us that check out time was actually 9am. The previous night we got back from Machu Picchu at around midnight so were still tired in the morning but had to vacate the nice room & wait at the lobby until our late afternoon flight out of Cusco. What a spoiler in this otherwise nice hotel

We enjoyed this hotel VERY much.

Stayed with two friends. We requested a triple bedroom, the travel agency told us Eco Inn didn’t have three-bed rooms, but they could give us two beds and one couch bed, which I didn’t mind : ). Upon arrival, the couch bed (futon?) was so comfy, that for a while I thought they had decided to include an actual third bed.

The room was clean, overlooking the street. The windows made a good job of keeping the noise out. I don’t remember hearing any traffic, but then again, for me, sleeping with traffic noise is not an issue. We were on the second floor and the only noise we heard was the soft but continuous echo from the lobby. At first we thought there was some kind of show going on in a building far away, but no, it was just people leaving or arriving. Kind of caught us by surprise, but it wasn’t very loud and didn’t interrupt our sleep because we were so tired. Maybe light sleepers should take this into account when requesting a room.

Clean bathroom, too. Water pressure was very good. Instant hot water after a day of climbing stairs = heaven.

The buffet breakfast was surprisingly good. Varied enough to try a little bit of everything (people shouldn’t overeat at high altitudes, after all).

Before arriving, I thought the 15-minute walk to Plaza de Armas was going to kill me, with the altitude and all, but it isn’t as hard as it sounds! Besides, we didn’t suffer from soroche thanks to our SorojchiPills+Gravol+coca+lots of water combo (worked like magic!).

For souvenirs, the crafts market in front of the hotel should be enough. You find the same items as in Plaza de Armas stores, but cheaper! And you can still ask for a discount.

We also visited IncaSpa in the basement. I think they should update the referential prices on their website to better match the actual prices, but despite the unexpected US$30 difference in prices we stayed anyways for a massage upon arrival from Machu Picchu and oh, was it worth it. Absolutely recommended! ♥ I was in awe just by entering the spa. While looking for hotels in Cusco we came across a LOT of doctored photos, but this was not IncaSpa’s case. The sound of running water, the staff talking in whispers, and everything looking exactly as in the website’s pictures, if not better. Really, I can’t recommend it enough.

Which is what we were. We returned late from Machu Picchu and flew out the next morning. We did walk up to Plaza de Armas and it is a good 20min walk. Not the greatest location compared to our previous hotel which was 1 block so we noticed the difference in distance.
But clean basic rooms. Reception staff nice and professional - good check in experience. Free wifi in the rooms.
Breakfast just your typical buffet. Nothing grand.
Overall it served it's purpose.

My wife and I stayed at the Eco-Inn in September, 2011. The rooms are clean and comfortable. The staff is friendly and helpful. The free breakfast was excellent, and dinner was excellent and reasonably priced. The hotel is across the street from one of the best artisan's markets in Cuzco, Aguas Calients and Ollantaytambo. In fact, forget the others.

Room Tip: If you can stay on the top floor, do so. The other floors are open to the atrium and it can be noisy...
