“Excellent service, perfect location”
Reviewed 4 August 2014

I stayed 11 days at Emperador Terraza while in town for a conference and research. All of the staff is professional and extremely helpful. Rooms are quiet, insulated from street noise, and very comfortable. The hotel is located right off the plaza de armas and very close to good restaurants and night life on the malecón. I will stay here again.

Room Tip: The quietest rooms are in the back off the street.

Let me start by saying thank you all to the staff members present during my stay at the Emperador terraza hotel. Everyone from the receptionists and Carla who also doubles as the kitchen staff serving us breakfast, to the repair man who came in after hour to fix the hot water situation. They all did their best to make our stay a pleasant one. However, all their efforts went down the drain when the hotel is badly designed, in which they know Iquitos is a humid and rainy city they still designed a hotel where almost all rooms are with no windows in the bedroom and a tiny window in the bathroom that doesn't ventilate. We trusted the reviews and booked 3 nights there. 2 nights before we went to the amazon, and one night after to rest and clean up before we leave the country. The first 2 nights we stayed at room 203, where the bathroom was moldy and the shower courtain had a collection of all previous guests' body secretion, the room is incredibly hot and stuffy without the AC running (remember there is no window) but if you leave the ac on it blows on your head the whole night. I really didn't enjoy that specially I didn't bring my hair dryer and the hotel did not have one that I can borrow, so after two nights of the same situation I was slowly developing a cold. The last night we stayed there, I was really looking forward to it because we went deep into the jungle and although we enjoyed every bit of it, I grew tired of being sticky and was really looking forward to a hot shower. We got to the hotel, was greeted by the staff, and we checked in room 202, I was happy at first because the bathroom was a lot bigger and it had a much better ventilation. The room was clean. Then the nightmare began, there was no hot water after many minutes with the water running, my husband didn't mind the cold shower so he went to shower first while Carla the receptionist called the maintenance guy. He explained that the water heater broke down because of the rain, but he had already fixed it, he doesn't know why there was no hot water, but he was going to try to fix it again. We decided to go out for dinner and come back later, meanwhile the TV short circuid because the rain water somehow dripped down the wall and got to the plug. When we came back from dinner, we were told to move to room 205 where there is hot water, but sadly no, and that room did not have a working ac, so we decided to go back to room 202. The staff apologised and I understand that there was nothing else they could do. I asked for discount for the stay and after checking with their superior they agreed to it and also gave us a free taxi ride to the airport. The hotel is fairly cheep and new compare to the other options in town. If you are ok with cold shower like my husband and budget is the most important thing when it comes to planning then this hotel is perfect, but if you are somewhat picky like me then then you should check out other options.

Room Tip: I recommend room 202, the bathroom is new, and there is no suspicious mold. Even though there is no...

Dear XXX,

We are grateful for your review; we work hard to offer a helpful and friendly service. We are so sorry to hear about your experience.

Thanks to your review, we are working on the humidity, and we are paying more attention to the shower curtains. These are cleaned every day and now we are washing them more frequently.

We are purchasing a hair dryer to lend all our clients that require it.

About hot water, the hotel has a water heater system that had a problem. When we found the problem, we bought the spare parts in Lima because there are not available in Iquitos, but delivery took so much time due a public holiday in Peru, so we were not able to fix it on time. Now is working very well.

I hope you will give us another chance in the future, and hoping we meet your expectations.

Thanks again for the feedback.
