The zoo offers a wide overview of all the jungle animals although it's sad to see them in cages.
It's a nice walk through the zoo, the sunset is very nice on the lagoon.
Beware of the guides who offer to walk you through the zoo, they seem to volunteer but then they charge you much more than you would have expected. If you do take a guide, make sure you agree on the price before you start the tour.
The entrance fee is 9 soles per person (foreigners)

I have been several times in Iquitos but I have never been in Quistococha until this last June. It´s a little far from the city but you can reach the place taking a bus and then a motocar. If you prefer you could take a motocar since the begining but it will be expensive. The entrance is really cheap. You can see all kind of animals: dolphins, crocodiles (lots of them), lizards, monkeys, añujes, owls, parrots, fishes.
You can see a blue lake, you can rent a small boat and sail, swim take the sun. There are also restaurants where you can take lunch. It´s not fancy but it´s really fun.

I would avoid this place animals are in bad shape, go to a lodge to see them in their natural habitat.

The zoo is about a 30 minute moto ride out of town. It is not real big, but it has some very impressive animals, jaguars, pumas, pink dolphins, and large colorful parrots flying free. Like all zoos, you feel sorry for the animals being cooped up and especially so for the pink dolphin. She brought me a stick and we played fetch for about a half hour. I know she would have played all day. That alone was amazing. The have a very nice restuarant and a large lake with a nice beach for swimming and water sports. I would recommend at least a half to 3/4 day to visit, including travel time.

I'm not a huge zoo fan, at least of the type where the animals are confined to small cages, and I'd say this is one of the worst I've seen. Not only are most of them cooped up in spaces too small for them, but it's dirty, in disrepair, and pretty much completely unattended by any staff, who apparently show up once or twice a day to toss some food into the cages, oh, and to collect the entrance fee at the gate - for which they also gouge foreigners at more than double the price for locals. The only positive thing here was the attached beach for swimming and boating.
