We stayed at El Tambo for one night at either end of our trip to Peru and found it to be perfectly adequate for our needs.

The hotel is located in a reasonably quiet part of the Minaflores area on a road that is easy to find a taxi etc and about 30 mins from the Plaza Major in the Old Town. The hotel consists of 3 separate buildings connected by the ground floor which makes finding your room from another a little difficult until you realise the configuration. The rooms are of a reasonable size, simply furnished and clean with plenty of hot water in the bathroom. There is also hot water in the sink which is a little rare in Peru!

The staff are very friendly and helpful and they have some great tips on things to see in Lima and the surrounding area. They also provide a decent little map showing the main sights.

Breakfast is pretty simple and the small dining room can get a little crowded but it's possible to sit outside if the weather is suitable. Wifi is provided throughout the hotel and is free and of a decent speed.

The rooms can be a little noisy due to the traffic on the road outside however when the traffic dies down in the early hours it is silent until the morning. We would certainly stay here again if in the area.

We stayed here in May of 2014 at the beginning and at the end of our trip. The hotel is located in safe area of the city, 10-15 min walk from the busy center, 10-15 min walk from the boardwalk and Larcomar a fancy nearby mall. It has a nice courtyard, elevator and the service is accommodating. Breakfast consisted of scrambled eggs, grilled hot dogs, cold cuts, cereal, rolls, butter, jelly, juice, coffee and teas.
The rooms are a little small but adequate in size, clean and have safes to store your valuables.

In the lobby they have computers and wifi.

Not a great hotel but perfectly adequate for one night. Everything very clean. Staff at front desk very helpful. Breakfast more "international" than we found in the rest of Peru i.e. a bit boring but perfectly adequate. Good location.

Front desk staff did not make eye contact with us during the entire 3 days of our stay. Food was miserable. And the on site restaurant rarely had any business..understandably.
Nobody working there appeared to want to be there. We were placed on the 3rd floor with the remaining rooms on our floor occupied by teenagers, slamming doors and yelling in the hall all hours. Our room (303) also faced a side street, with drunken kids making noise from 2pm until way past midnight. Impossible to sleep or even relax. While the location on LaPaz was ok, we could not wait to check out of this joint.

We stayed there with our group. Probably we slept in the worst room of this boutique hotel on ground floor right beside the restaurant. That room shouldn’t have been given the guests. Anyways after long hours on the flight to Peru we slept without any distractions. Our friends were happy with their rooms. Other than world brand name hotels most hotels in Lima do not have air condition and radiators. The weather usually is not very cold or very hot. However humidity is close to 100% and the linens on the bed, towels and used clothes feel wet because of the lack of air condition or radiators.
The location of the hotel is great. It is just in the middle of Miraflores. Walking distance to famous Larcomar shopping and recreation center. Steps to Pacific Ocean.
The staff is always nice, generous and kind as always in Peru. Hospitality is wonderful.
Sulpayki.

We had a one-night stay-over at El Tambo and were given room 303 right on the street. Cars and buses arrived all night until the early morning hours dropping off busloads full of guests. The guests were very noisy and banged doors and chatted in the corridor. The rooms are not sound proof and have no air conditioning. There are no chairs or stands for suitcases. the toilet leaked all over the bathroom floor, making it all very unpleasant. We went to the reception to inform the hotel about the leak, but after waiting a few minutes and no-one appeared, we gave up.The breakfast was mediocre. If there is a next time for us in Lima, we'll certainly not pick this hotel again

Nice hotel in a good location in a pleasant area of Lima (Miraflores). The breakfast was the best we had in Peru in the courtyard garden next to some lovely planting. Hummingbird's feed from the nearby flowers while you have your breakfast - lovely! The staff were very pleasant and can call the local money cahnger if you need to change $ to soles. The room was sizeable, clean and airy The bathroom was fresh and had a great shower. The location is excellent in the Miraflores area close to the pleasant coastal parks.
