My husband and I always try and take the overview bus tour when we go to a new city. And we always enjoy them. Not this time. Terrible seats, terrible translations from the guide. We could not understand her. We went to the lorco museum, but only had an hour and half to look around. Not enought time to really visit. Overall we were very disappointed.

we were delighted by an informative and very enjoyable private tour of lima at night, under the guidance of edwin rojas, haku tours. edwin took us on an unexpectedly enriched tour after pick up from hotel, taking us through lima to st martin square and the main plaza. to stand in a plaza surrounded by nightlit amazing buildings was a once off. but there was more for edwin then took us to water fountain park which was spectacular.

based on opinions of other peru visitors, we were not expecting much of lima. this vastly changed our view of this progressive city and its safety. edwin was extremely knowledgeable, spoke excellent english, and was very flexible.

the best part of all is this - proceeds from his tours go back directly into assisting the local community and so you are part of responsible tourism.

cannot recommend edwin highly enough and he has a variety of tours on offer - visit www.hakutours.com

Apparently, most travelers bypass Lima. We spent a day and a half in Lima and really enjoyed it. The Centro, and Plaza were clean and safe with many police nearby. San Isidro and Miraflores were upscale for Lima, bustling, with many nice restaurants. Under no circumstances should you miss the Rafael Largo Herrera Museo. And, make sure to have lunch at the museum restaurant, Cafe del Musco. It is beautiful and excellent.

I wanted to take a minute to tell you about a wonderful service we used in Lima, Peru. We had several South American destinations for vacation in May and June, 2012 and were concerned about using busses and taxis in Lima. We found this website for Lima Limo which offers private taxi services... www.limalimo.pe. We booked an airport transfer via the internet and were very pleased with the ease of booking. When we arrived in Lima, there was Gerardo (his picture is shown on the website). He was holding a sign with our name. He was warm, welcoming, helped with our luggage and was parked very close. He charged very low prices to take us to and fro all the waay to Miraflores. He was kind and patient while I adjusted to using my Spanish. We shared many laughs and he pointed out various things to us on the way. I would never use anyone else but him. But wait, the story gets better!!!

On the return trip home, we remembered that we had a 12 hour layover in Lima to wait on our plane back to the US. We took a chance an emailed Gerardo to see if he was free to give us a city tour instaed of sitting at the airport. He said yes, he would pick us up the next day at 9 am at Lima Airport. He was there waiting when we landed. He had brought his 17 year old son with him to help with English if needed. We had a wonderful day! We always say we would lilke to know someone local when we travel as they can really show you around. This is what they did. He drove us all around and stopped at many places over 9 hours in Lima. We visited: the catacombs at the San Francisco church, the changing of the guard at the royal palace, the Iglesia of San Pedro, the Plaza Mayor, the Bridge of Sighs, el Museo del Oro, Barranco and many more. What a day! He made our Lima layover amazing and fun. The cost was very low. We appreciate all he did. He even took us out for a late lunch in a local favorite. Use him , you won't regret it. Feel free to message me about this service. I would be happy to tell you more!
