I went to this hostal a couple of week ago with a girlfriend, its the kind of place you would go in order to end a lovers night out. This place is no sheraton, or five star westin. We stayed in room 207 it was small, basic, the bathroom looked kinda scary and the tv had a thick metallic armour barrier that would suggest someone attempted to steal it at some point in the hotels history. The door bell is this very loud bell that will bring you back to your elementary school days (since I am 100% sure that this bell is the same kind of bell schools use). You might think oh god this sounds like hostal 3 when are the eastern European men going to take me to the dungeons.
It might sound bad but this hostal is not that terrible, I wouldn't recommend this place for families, but if you are young, adventurous and speak the language and want to save a ton of money on your housing this can be a very solid option. This small hostal is located in the heart of residential san isidro 2 blocks away from 2 de mayo street one of the most popular and fancy streets for restaurants bars and pubs in this district. The district itself is very safe, in san isidro you will find over 90% of embassies, there are armed guards on every street. The serenazgo police force patrols the streets on bikes, motorbikes, vehicles 24 - 7, I parked my Kia sportage Car 2010 brand new and did not hesitate for one second that it would be intact once I left the establishment.
This hostal is surrounded by other 3 star hotels that charge and average of 70 dollars a night, this place however charges 70 soles a night. And if you consider yourself a good bargainer like me you can get this place for 60 soles a night (ask for the corporate rate). the place is not unsafe, but once again if you have no previous experience in the city, if you are intimidated by family owned business, if you cant really speak the language and if you are travelling with your Ipad, Iphone, Ipod, machintosh computer, might as well go to the sheraton where you can get free Wi fi.
