“worth the visit”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 June 2014

My husband and I started getting interested in the precious gems stones in the handmade jewelry. With all of the mining in Peru, especially being known for the Peruvian turquoise, we anted to learn more. We happened to notice this museum while driving by the Plaza San Martin in a taxi and made a point to go back and visit it. It is the type of place you only visit once, but we felt we learned about the gems and it was worth it. We chatted with the extremely knowledgable guide who was a store house of information. Basically this guide is what made it worth it, so we tipped him in addition to the entrance fee.

“A Precious Gem”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 May 2014

An extraordinary personal collection of minerals, ceramics and textiles reflecting the richness, history and culture of Peru. Housed in a magnificently restored Colonial mansion in the center of Lima with a rich history, this is an experience many will treasure! The staff are all, without exception, extremely knowledgeable and courteous. You need not be a mineralogist to appreciate this wonderful place, much like a great Peruvian dish it brings many distinct flavours!
A must see!!

“just ok”

No guides and most of the signage only in spanish. Some nice mineral specimens, but also a lot of duplicates. You can kill 15 or 20 minutes here, that is about it.

“Magic place!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 August 2013

Peru is a country full of mines, this beautiful museum gives a broad and detailed view of what we have under our feet in this country. Amazing! There are some other artifacts too. The museum´s architecture is also worth visiting, a classic beautiful house the deserves more than one visit.

“Excellent - highly recommend to see this museum if you are at all interested in Minerals”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 July 2013

we had some spare time before our flight went back and as our daughter likes her "stones" we found the Museo de Minerales Andres del Castillo in the city centre of Lima.
Lovely, friendly and helpful staff of the museum showed us around. Very proud of their little museo. The show you all the minerals that are found in Peru, with a small collection of minerals that glow with UV light due to their fluorescence.. Additionally its features some tools, textiles etc from the chincha people - I think it was about 900 to 1200.. IF you like minerals at all, ! this one is worth it!!
