“Two Wonderful Days in Lima with Haku Tours”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 May 2014

We spent two days with the wonderful guides of Haku Tours. Our guides for Day 1 were Daisy & Santiago. We began with a tour of Shanty Town. There were a few problems on the way caused mainly by Lima traffic and road construction, but once we arrived the experience was eye-opening. Be forewarned that there is a lot of walking, and much of it seemed to be uphill, so be prepared and wear comfortable shoes. The tour itself was informative, and at the same time an emotional experience. The living conditions are harsh at best, but the spirit of the people we met was strong and they were committed to provide a better future. The children were wonderful and their smiles were genuine. Following the Shanty Town tour we had lunch (not included) at a great local restaurant. From there it was on to a downtown tour of the San Francisco Monastery, the area around the cathedral, and the shopping area. The evening concluded with a visit to the laser light fountain show - something you shouldn't miss if you are in Lima overnight. The only drawback was that there was a concert in the stadium which caused huge traffic problems and a delay in getting back to the ship - but it was no problem as we were staying overnight. Day 2 was spent with Edwin touring the ruins at Pachacamac. That was one of the highlights of our whole 31-day cruise. Edwin's personal knowledge, warm personality and outstanding communication skills brought the ruins alive. We followed that with a buffet lunch at Rustica (excellent food - included in the tour price for this day), and concluded with a tour of the colorful Barranca district. Coordination via email with Haku Tours was easy, payment was made only after the tour was complete. All in all a wonderful experience - highly recommended!

“Shanty town. Lima”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 May 2014

Booked tour on internet and very impressed with professionalism of Alexandra. Most interesting tour and so pleased we were fortunate enough to do it. Wear enclosed shoes - lots of walking. After leaving we had a typical lunch in local cafe which was most enjoyable. Pick up at ship and drop off at ship shuttle bus stop after tour of city and fountain display. Miss Daisy is a delight. Highly recommend if you enjoy going off normal "sight seeing" tours. Took gifts for the children.

“The best way to see an amazing place.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 April 2014

Two of our three glorious days in Lima were spent with Eddie and Marco from Haku.
We booked our tours in advance, and were met at the gate on time by two happy, well spoken, and very knowledgeable guides.
I learned more in two days than all my days combined.
The pride they exhibited towards their country, community and how gracious they were, not only to us, but to everyone we encountered cannot be understated.
I feel so fortunate to have had such a profound experience in Lima.
I felt 100% safe, even in the midst of the craziest traffic I've ever seen.
You cannot go wrong with Haku tours, their involvement and commitment to their community is obvious.
True ambassadors.
The city is beautiful, the people are warm and friendly.
Haku made it easy to enjoy.
I will be back and I'm ready to try the guinea pig.

“An amazing experience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 April 2014

We booked the shanty town tour in advance from NY as we only had one afternoon in Lima and were picked up from our hotel punctually. Marco, our guide, was terrific. His knowledge of the area was impressive as was his English. He knew the people we met and we did not feel like intruders, but rather like friendly visitors. Lima traffic is a challenge but Henry, our driver, transported us efficiently and safely. This tour was one of the highlights of our trip to Peru and we can highly recommend it.

Have recently spent some time in Lima and took four of their tours. The selection of tours is varied, informative and great way to learn about many aspects of Lima. All the guides were friendly, punctual and enjoyable companions eager to share their knowledge. Haku Tours is a non profit organization and currently I understand that they are funding projects for the development of vegetable gardens around the shanty towns and also the installation of safe steps up the hillsides where most of the settlements are. So by using them not only will you getting a fascinating and enjoyable tour but you will also be contributing to make conditions better for those who live in the shanty towns.
