This hotel needs to realize it is 2019 and not 1919. First, the check in was efficient and well organized. The location is excellent. I find the pricing to be outrageous there is no value here. The "managers" which they have several are very arrogant and think they are doing you a favor by staying at their hotel. I was appalled that my breakfast was cold and asked for a freshly cooked one that was at the correct temperature, they took mine and came back with the same one that had been reheated. I immediately protested and the "manager" just walked away. I demanded to see another manager and their reply was even worse this person said, "The breakfast was fine and me and my Cholo wife could eat somewhere else if we did not like it."

For those of you who do not know what a "cholo" it is a very derogatory term for the Indigenous people of Peru. It is basically like calling an African America person a "nig*er".

Dear Jim Hunter M:

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback in regards to your recent visit at the JW Marriott Lima Hotel, we appreciate all of our guest´ input and consider it of utmost importance, be assured I have gone ahead and shared your feedback with our Executive chef.

In the mean time, I would like to take this opportunity to explain that this is not the kind of service that the JW Marriott Lima is not known for, instead, our staff is so professional and respectful.

I hope next time you plan to visit let me know it would be a pleasure to assist you.

Kind regards,
Jaime Escalante

This hotel has a great location, close to restaurants, shopping and the beach. It is in a very good Lima neighborhood. Rooms with an ocean view are awesome, and a Casino is in the bottom floor. Breakfast is good as you would expect from a JW chain hotel.

We arrived in Lima on the morning of Jan. 1 and had made plans for an early check in at the JW Marriott. So glad we chose this location. We had a nice junior suite with an ocean view and executive lounge access. The room was nice, but not huge. The location of the JW is excellent. It is in beautiful Miraflores, and right across from the Larcomar mall. There is a sidewalk that runs along the ocean for a long distance and is very pleasant to walk. The Larcomar mall has several restaurants and shops. The JW has a Starbucks in the building. The Executive Lounge was very good. It served breakfast, lunch, happy hour and a light dinner. Well worth it, if you can upgrade. We were very happy with our stay for our one night in Lima.

My wife and I arrived on 12/27/18 and left on 1/2/2019. We received a room on the 8th floor with an ocean view using points. I am a Marriott Platinum elite member and I think the room was a modest upgrade. It was spacious and comfortable with very little street noise. We looked out over the "subterranean" Larcomar shopping center across the street and out into the ocean.

The hotel was ideally located and a great splurge. The front desk was cordial and respectful. The bell hops informative and friendly.

We purchased a bottle of Peruvian champagne in the Wong grocery store in the Larcomar mall and celebrated New'Year's Eve in our room. At midnight, a 10 minute fireworks show began. There were displays by the city as seen in the photo I uploaded. There were also displays by folks in the streets. Our 8th floor room gave us a great view to it all.

The hotel offers hotels as you would expect, but we were surprised that they offered Shiatsu massages. We partook.

We ate breakfast in the executive lounge most mornings. It was scrumptious and generous. Maybe not quite as lavish as Marriott's executive lounges in Europe but close enough. In the evenings we enjoyed the Intipalka Sauvignon Blanc from the ICA valley. It was very nice. The service in the lounge was gracious and attentive.

It was early summer while we visited Lima, and the paragliders were flying over the beach and mall many hours during the day, but they always seemed to stop at least and hour or two before sun down.

There are at least 4 ways to catch taxis from the hotel. You can get the hotels Mercedes cars at nearly US prices. Just down the steps from the entry on the sidewalk is typically the next best taxi; we generally used the taxis the gentlemen on the sidewalk offered. They were clean and not beat up. Across the street is a long taxi stand of yellow taxis. They looked to be in slightly worse shape. And lastly you can just flag a taxi in the street; this is the lowest cost option, but may get you a car not certified by the city, beat up, and without seatbelts. TIP: When returning to the hotel, mention the Larcomar shopping center. All of the drivers know this location. They do not all know the JW Marriott. You will be dropped across the street from the hotel. Piece of cake.

There is a Scotibank with an ATM just off the lobby. We were told there would not be an international transaction fee as we are BofA members. There was a fee of ~$1 US per $100 US withdrawn from the ATM; not bad compared with most ATMs I have used overseas. We used cash primarily for tips and taxis. There are credit car machines are in most restaurants, grocery stores, and retail outlets.

There is a Starbucks across from the Scotiabank. We were in the land of great coffee and they did not bring that to their game. Prices were about 15% less than prices in LA.

There is a nice wine store, Garaje Gourmet, 3-4 blocks east on the avenue just behind the hotel, Aljovin.

Room tip: Request an ocean view
