“Excellent Business Hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 August 2010

Stayed at the Swissotel Lima in August 2010 for a conference. This is a 4 1/2 star hotel located in a pleasant and safe area of Lima (San Isidro District). I was given an upgraded room that was on par with rooms in 5-star European hotels (except this room was probably larger). Internet service was wired and reliable. The room had 110v and 220v plugs everywhere, which was very handy.

The hotel is modern, sleek, and clean. The staff is exceedingly courteous, friendly, and helpful. Housekeeping and Room Service are both fast and accommodating. The restaurants are outstanding. Buffet breakfast was included in my rate and was superb, with some regional differences (the buffet included fajitas, green string beans, and black beans, for example). I recommend trying Loma Saltado at the restaurant or from room service for dinner. It's delicious.

The hotel is in a very safe neighborhood for walking. Police are omnipresent, but they don't carry guns (a very good sign). You encounter no threatening looking people while walking. There are plenty of shops and restaurants within easy walking distance. There's a great upscale grocery store (Vivanda) about six short blocks away (less than 10 minutes). i negotiated several visits there easily despite speaking zero words of Spanish (and they speak no English).

There are a few things to pick at. The gift shop is nothing more than a closet (about 8' x 10') and is closed on Sundays. The concierges are very friendly and try to be helpful, but they are all young men who obviously do not live in the neighborhood. Thus, for some places, they have only a vague idea of location and don't know the name of the store (in fairness, though, they do know plenty). In the rooms, the sound resistance is not great for a top-notch hotel. Each room has a doorbell, and you can hear the one from the next-door room if it is rung. The toilets flush so violently that you can hear every flush from next door and the room above you. My room faced the front of the hotel and I occasionally heard noise from the parking lot (not to mention the hammering from construction across the street during the day). I was also near the housekeeping closet on the floor, and that room's door slammed constantly in the morning.

All in all, this is an excellent hotel for business, and tour organizers are available to take you around Lima and beyond (e.g., Cusco and Machu Picchu) should you desire to go. I recommend this hotel.

I know it may seem like an odd choice to stay in a business hotel for pleasure but it was perfection. My wife, teenage daughter and I stayed several times in May and June as we used it as a "Lima base" from which we ventured to explore Machu Picchu, Cusco, La Paz and the Amazon. The rooms were perfect, the staff was perfect. One of the nicest daily buffets (breakfast and lunch) I have encountered There was literally everything right about the hotel and NOTHING wrong. We chose the hotel because it was one of the few nicer hotels in Lima that would allow our daughter to stay in our room with a roll away. I doubt I will be back in Lima again in the near future but if I am I won't even look at a different hotel. It was that good.

Stayed at this hotel for several days prior to joining a tour group. We found the staff friendly and responsive. Even though we arrived after midnight, we were greeted graciously. We were upgraded to a beautiful suite with a king bed that was most comfortable. Sitting area had comfortable chairs and sofa and desk. There was a large screen TV that could be viewed from the bed or sitting area. Room amenities were a high quality. Bath facilities were excellent. A buffet breakfast is included and had a wide variety of choice to include hot and cold entrees, fresh fruits and juices and a cook to order omlet bar. There is a business center with internet access, ATM inside hotel, and a very nice bar/lounge area with live piano music in the evening. Pool is small situated in a pleasant setting. Hotel taxi service is available. Upon completion of the tour, we also had a day room for several hours prior to airport departure. This room was comfortable with excellent amenties as well. Hotel is located in a very safe and clean area with several excellent restaurants and historical attractions within easy walking distance.

Regrettably I was only able to stay at this hotel my first and last nights in Peru, and both stays were very short as I was transiting between the international airport and other parts of the country. It is a modern, well appointed facility in the safe upscale business and residential neighborhood of San Isidro.

Like many travelers from the US, I arrived in Peru very late at night, yet was greeted pleasantly and efficiently at the front desk after midnight and check-in was painless. I was even able to get room service at that late hour.

The guest room was very nicely furnished, spacious, clean and modern. The shower was the best I have had in any hotel with tons of water and incredible water pressure - a real blessing after a hard day of travel.

As I said, my 2 stays here were very short and I did not get a chance to try to the restaurants or the business facilities. I would definitely recommend this hotel to business travelers and leisure travelers who want to pamper themselves. I would not recommend this hotel to budget travelers or large families more comfortable at Disneyworld.

After a airline mechanical problem delayed my arrival, I checked in smoothly at around 2am. The lobby was nicely decorated and all the door staff were very helpful.

I had a business advantage category room on the 17th floor. The room was spacious with two sitting chairs and as well as a desk. The desk was stocked with everything you could need including a stapler, highlighters, etc which I thought was a nice touch. The alarm clock also functioned as an ipod dock, with ok sound. A flat screen tv had many channels including lots of English language programing however, the tv box was bolted to the dresser, so the remote only worked if was directly in front of it. The bathroom was also very large, a lot of wasted space actually. It did have a nice robe and Hermès bath products though. The bed in this room was old, cheap and very uncomfortable, you could clearly feel each and every spring. I was very surprised that a hotel of this caliber would have such a poor quality mattress, they definitely need to upgrade!

The concierge staff was excellent, going well out of their way to help. The rest of the hotel staff were also all friendly and accommodating.

The area around the hotel was all office buildings. You can use one of the cars out front as a taxi and charge it to your room which was nice. You can also call for a pickup from locations in the city but beware the response time may be long. I waited nearly 1.5 hours to get picked up from dinner one night, I finally ended up taking another taxi back. The lunch buffet in Le Cafe in the Lobby was excellent. The food in the club lounge was also good, be it a little repetitive if your there for a week.

I would probably try someplace else on my next visit simply to avoid the horrible mattress, but it is still a decent hotel.

I was due to stay at the Marriott, but our local business moved the booking to the Swissotel - and I'm delighted they did!
The staff were fabulous and it was difficult to fault anything - even had tea/coffee/ snacks for guests doing a very early check-out. The location is in the business district and my wife who was travelling with me, was advised to visit LarcoMar shopping centre which was easily and safely accomplished via taxi. The concierge service was great and organised city tours with minimum fuss and were a pleasure to deal with. Other benefits were free internet in the room.
We stayed in the Marriott after a trip to Cusco, and having seen the difference in service and cost, I will definitely recommend this hotel to other - particularly business travellers, but also to tourists who are happy to take a taxi (these are quite safe, altho the Lima traffic is somewhat challenging!)

Superbly attentive staff are everywhere in this finely appointed establishment. The bedding is amazing as well as the restaurant choices available on the first floor. The breakfast is amazing. The concierge is very helpful. Spanish and English are both spoken well by the majority of the staff that one encounters during a normal stay. It was very pleasant and I look forward to staying there in the future.
