The Melia has two disadvantages the location and no free Internet in the room, only in the lobby, everything else is very good. Good room, great service, good breakfast. It is was located in the Miraflores it would be by far one of the best hotels in Lima.

We stayed at the Melia Lima on 2 separate occasions - one night on our arrival to Peru, and one night prior to departing. The reservation was made on hotels.com for $115-135/night for July 2008. There was a bit of trouble getting any specific information about the hotel prior to our arrival (such as whether a free airport transfer was included - we were told by one agent it was, though it is not) which led to a mild amount of confusion at the Lima airport. A taxi driver who saw us at the airport assured us transport was not included and that the hotel hired a private service which cost significantly more (he was correct, the private car was 130 soles, while the cab driver asked for 55). Breakfast was of a reasonable quality for a business class hotel and cost $14.

On our second stay, we actually used their business center for the free internet service and the full-time staff within the business center was quite helpful in helping us arrange for tickets to a show. Since our flight was at 6 am the following day, we missed breakfast, but also didn't have to worry about paying for a bundled service. With a bit more experience in Peru, the cab ride to/from the airport was 40 soles.

For anyone who isn't interested in spending additional time in Lima (since most of the fun is in the East), the Melia is a reasonable option. The rooms are cheaper than other 4 star hotels, but bear in mind that there are no bundled services (you will pay for breakfast and airport transfers on your own). Depending on your bargaining skills, that will effectively increase the price of a room from $50-70/night for 2 people. Still, we appreciated the freedom.

Like all 4 star hotels, the rooms were quite acceptable with a king sized bed, cable tv, and large tiled bath.

The Melia is in a rather odd location between the main districts of tourist interest. However, it is quiet, clean, modern and well appointed. You can reach the historic downtown area in 30 minutes by cab in traffic (much quicker on a Sunday) and the Miraflores district is even closer. The outdoor pool is very small but the business facilities are good and the staff very attentive. The restaurant and room service are very good and offer a wide variety of local and international dishes. There's a Hertz desk in the lobby which offers up market taxis (at fairly steep prices). Good for the tourist and business traveller but you won't be walking anywhere!

We were at Melia Lima in May and were put on the The Level, an Executive floor.
It has its own check-in desk on the 9th floor with its own restaurant and bar. There was free afternoon tea from 12noon to 6pm, and an open (free) bar from 6pm to 10pm. The staff were really friendly and helpful.
The room was spacious, and being that high did not suffer from road noise.
We had read a lot of negative reviews of this hotel, but we were extremely impressed and would stay there again. Much nearer for the airport than going all the way out to Miraflores.

Stayed in this hotel for three nights in April 2008. The rooms are small, but comfortable, and the bathrooms are clean. The rooms facing the street can be noisy if you open the window, otherwise it's fine. The staff is friendly and helpful. Breakfast is ok, it's decent, but nothing to brag about.

The hotel is located in a good neighborhood (lots of Embassies nearby), but there isn't much around to see (there's a 24 hour pharmacy across the street and a market down the street), but the beach is within walking distance (15-20 minutes).

If you're going to venture out into Lima then ask the concierge to help you get a cab and/or dinner reservations.

I'd stay here again.

We stayed her twice in August 07 as a family 2 kids 7 and 11. The hotel is OK nothing special but clean reasonably close to the airport and not too far 15 minute cab to Miraflores. There appears to be nothing in the immediate area to tempt the tourist. The rooms are adequate for a short stay. The breakfast buffet is excellent one of the best we have had on our travels. The bar is poor low ceiling and lacking in atmosphere. Staff were good and happy to practice their English with the kids and allow them to try Spanish. They were also helpful in arranging tours taxi's etc.Overall OK for a short stay.

This is a very nice hotel; clean, modern, comfortable. It is an excellent choice for a Lima overnight layover on the way to Cusco, being that it is fairly close to the airport. For a lengthier stay, not sure I'd recommend it, as the area is not the nicest.
