“Relaxed and friendly”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 November 2012

A lovely old fashioned hotel and full of character with period furniture and quirky features such as old industrial implements made into lamps and clocks. It is the polar opposite of a boring, corporate boxy hotel. We stayed here twice and both times the rooms were spacious, airy (and definitely not smelly!) The hotel staff are very friendly and helpful, as were most people we encountered on our trip. Breakfast was particularly good with enough choices to surely suit everyone's taste. The hotel is in a good spot for wandering down to the coast, the shops and restaurants. (We ate at Al Fresco both times and both were excellent meals, specially the Ceviche).

I would definitely stay here again and would recommend it to others.

Room Tip: On our second stay we had a room in the old part of the building facing onto the courtyard (accessed...

We stayed here with Gate 1 tours for two nights. As soon as we entered our room which was #106 we noticed a very strong odour - we thought that someone had vomited in the closet! The room was quite large with a large bed and the bathroom was very modern and clean. The furniture was very worn looking and we had a nice double window that looked out onto a little courtyard. it was a very quiet room. The food in the restaurant was "ok" and reasonable. Most other people in our tour group also complained of the "bad smell" in their room.

Room Tip: room 106 was large with a king bed in a quiet location but they need to try to remove the strong unp...

What makes this hotel so nice is the staff that it's very helpful and very receptive. The rooms are very big but the furniture is very old. The room has a very strong moldy smell, so don't go for it if you have health problems that might be affected by the smell. The room also has a small fridge, a sink, microwave oven and silverware. That's good because you can buy things at the supermarket and heat it in the room, and save up money with the restaurants. Most of the rooms also have great wireless internet connection and they don't charge you for it. The breakfast is also included on the price of the room.

The location is very good, since it's not very far from the Larcomar Shopping Mall and it will cost you like 10 soles (5 US dollars) to grab a taxi from the hotel to the mall. The area where the hotel is located is not dangerous, so you can go for walks at night without worrying about it.

During the weekend there are a lot of travelers on this hotel, but during the weekdays there are a lot of businessman and international sales guys that stay there and also do business with clients all day long in the restaurant. So if you are either going for tourism or work, you will fit in nicely.

The negative thing about this place is that the hotel's restaurant is very expensive, so it's not worth it. The food of the restaurant is also not that great. The hotel doesn't have an elevator, so if you get one of the higher rooms you will have to go up the stairs with the luggage, unless you ask for help at the front desk. The hotel also doesn't have taxis in front that you can count on, so most of the times you need to wait for one of the staff guys to run out on the street and call one for you.

Room Tip: Ask for one of the rooms on the ground floor. Since there aren't elevators in the hotel, you wi...

We stayed twice on our Peru trip, had 4 rooms for our family of 6. All rooms were fine, all quiet and comfortable. Not plsh but clean and fine. Lovely reception staff with good English. Lovely local ladies serving breakfast, which was freshly cooked and good. I woudl use it again.

This is s small hotel in the Mira Flores district of Lima. It is a few block walk to the ocean parkway where you can walk for miles along the ocean with great views or take another road and get down to the beach level. There is a grocery store about three blocks away and small restaurants within walking distance-some as close a s a block from the hotel. There is also a restaurant on site serving dinner.

The hotel has a quiet interior courtyard with fountain. The breakfast area is small and cozy and the food was good. The room we stayed in was on the second floor facing the fountain. It was quiet at night with very little outside noise. The room was clean with more rustic furnishings. The bed was comfortable, but this is not a Hilton style place to stay.

It is 1/2 hour by taxi from the airport. It is a taxi ride away from Plaza Mayor downtown, but easy walking distance from Parque Kennedy.

Room Tip: ask for an interior room facing the fountain courtyard

Just returned from a 2 week trip to Peru. We used this hotel at the start and end of our trip. The staff are very helpful and speak good English (my Spanish is limited so this was much appreciated). At the start of the trip the room we had was in the old building; very quaint and had a small bath in the bathroom. The room at the end looked onto the courtyard and had a much bigger, more modern bathroom with a generous shower. It is situated in the Miraflores suburb, close to the sea.

On the stay at the beginning, we had to leave before breakfast but were given a breakfast bag. We did have time to take breakfast when we returned. The breakfast room is very small and can be busy at times.

The reception organised a taxi for us into Lima to sight see without doing a big tour. Very helpful as they even sorted the price (20 soles) so we know how much to negotiate with the taxi we hailed for the return trip.

I would recommend this hotel as an excellent alternative to the big hotels nearby.

We stayed at this simple tourist inn three separate times during our Gate 1 tour of Peru. We started with two nights upon arrival. Then one night between our land based trip and our Amazon River Boat Aventure and then one final night after the Amazon and our flight home.

The other reviews we found very accurate. We were given a different room each time we were there. The furnishings are very basic. The bed was adaquate but only one small pillow. The size of the bathrooms differed greatly as did room size.

Gate 1 uses this hotel a lot. Most guests seemed to be Gate 1patrons.

The breakfast was fine. The breakfast staff do not speak english so sometimes things got mixed. They tried very hard but were not very efficient. Its best if you are not in a hurry as service can be slow or swift depending on how corwded the breakfast room it.

If you are looking for or expect any level of luxury do not stay here. You will be disappointed. On the otherhand if a reasonably clean room in a very safe neighborhood with a little charm meets your needs this place it fine.

It is a short 10 minute walk to Lovers park. 5 miutes to a grocery store. 15 minutes to Kennedy Park (a starbucks is half way between the hotel and Kennedy Park on Jose' Pardo) Another 10 minutes past Kennedy park will get you to LarcoMar the upscale shopping mall on the bluffs above the ocean.

We had a late flight so paid an additional $50 us to keep our room until 7 pm. This was worth it to us so we could nap and shower before heading the the airport.

This place met our needs fine.

Room Tip: If your assigned room seems small ask for a larger room. They are all different shapes and sizes.
