This was our second visit to this hotel, the last time wss five years ago, nothing has changed, in fact I doubt if a lot has changed in the last sixty years. It may have passed its heyday but we enjoyed its past splendour, The rooms are something from the past, the reception is as it was many years ago.
still well maintained, clean and comfortable with good service.
Stay here and dream of the past

This is a pleasant but dated Hotel in Lima. We enjoyed the history and the once stately elegance of the hotel. I loved it for its old school charm but it would be nice if it was updated to modern standards. This was once a beautiful hotel and could be again with a great location. One thing to have here is the knockout Pisco sours in the Bar. and the breakfast in the morning is nice.
I recommend this hotel with the caveats that I have mentioned

The hotel was once a great place but the rooms need better attention. Our room was so warm the fan barely worked. The linens were stained and the bathroom was so outdated. The toilet was falling apart. The noise at night is unbearable w loud club music and drunk people walking by the plaza. The front desk was not helpful they barely spoke to guests. Advice to travellers is yo stay bg miraflores instead.

We could never have afforded this hotel at its heyday, early 1920s, but totally enjoyed its (sadly) declining aura and could easily imagine ourselves dressed appropriately (sequins for me, tails for him), walking thru the marble and the gilt, accompanied by the music of the grand piano and admiring the model Ford T in the foyer (no sign to say why) before sweeping into the bar for the famous pisco sour. The ghosts are all friendly, unfortunately the staff are not! LPlanet says is employee owned thus impeccable service but we did not encounter that: not from the doorman, who handed us over to the grudging luggage to our room bellhop without word of welcome (from either), nor the patronising reception who in response to what was going on right outside in the square? (it was fabulous! processions! dancing! muisic) responded: It's a party. (dunhh). The indifferent almost sullen restaurant service with no attempt to understand our Spanish. And how about the non existent promised morning wake up call so we could catch our flight? (thank goodness for our own alarm clock). Dismissing the staff ( please!) - the hotel vibes make you feel special, and on that alone am giving it good marks. This was the final night of our Peru trip, especialy to be nearer to airport for early morning deprature, hotel arranged taxi was 50 soles (expensive! double what we'd paid to arrive and depart previously from a less grand hotel in the early hours also) and when queried: special price (yes indeedy!) for early hours... hmmm...
On the positive side:
The room was great, high ceilings, starting with the personal entry lobby with writing bureau, (all furniture was delightfully period) the huge bedroom (bedside built in radio!; monogrammed door handles!) and en suite bathroom (basin big enough to bathe a toddler) and oh yes the en suite suitcase storage room (dressing room?) big enough to accommodate a double bed. Quiet. Secure. We had back bedroom, thus no street noise. Lots hot water - my 3 criteria (as you probably know by now). On St Martin plaza, do not confuse with Plaza des Armas. Not a lot during the walk between the 2 for eating out at night, and we didn't feel terribly happy to explore at night. (European style restaurants nearer to Plaza des Armas close approx 6pm).Hotel restaurant was fine and surprisingly reasonably priced.

We booked this hotel for use as a day room, as we had 12 hours in Lima before our late evening return flight to the states. The location was fairly convenient, but the square can be loud with various protest, gatherings, and unending car horns. We reserved a junior suite, and the room was nice and big and everything for the most part "worked." But boy, this place is tired. At times I felt like I was going to fall through the floor.

It's a fairly short cab ride to the LORCA museum (which is great, btw). And the main cathedral is within walking distance and shouldn't be missed.

Overall, this worked out fine for a day room. It was an experience, to say the least.

it was our first day in Lima, we were tired, it was hot but not sunny and we needed a rest. Cocktails on the terrace of the Bolivar were actually really good. One of the other reviews talks about the loud music - it wasn't like that when we went - and we shared a tapas plate between us which was more than enough for two and surprisingly good. So - we didn't expect much and it delivered a lot.
