“Comfortable hotel, great location, plus arranges tours!”
Reviewed 26 May 2010

I chose Hotel Esperanza in Miraflores, Lima, Peru based on several positive reviews on Trip Advisor, combined with a reasonable rate (and South American Explorers Club discount). We were not disappointed, and we returned there during all of our stopovers in Lima. The hotel rooms are clean and comfortable, with reliable hot water (not always guaranteed in Peru!) and television (even some channels in English.) The hotel is located in Miraflores, within 5 minutes walking distance of great restaurants and shopping, and 15-20 minutes walk to the Pacific Ocean. You can also easily walk within 20 minutes to the pyramid Huaca Pucllana, the South American Explorers Club, and the Indian Market. It is very secure, with a locked front gate, and front desk staffing 24/7. The proprietor, Max, provides special attention to all of his guests. He will arrange transport to and from the airport for US$20--the drivers were always punctual. Max is also happy to help arrange trips to various sites in Peru for reasonable prices, which include transportation, hotels, and guided tours. The hotel offers breakfast in their restaurant (open in the mornings only), but we departed too early in the mornings to take advantage of this service. There was no "business center" per se, but the hotel does offer use of a computer with internet.

I travel to Lima a few times a year and this is the place where I will stay each time. It's located on a street with an industrial feel, but the location--walking distance to the center of Miraflores--is otherwise perfect, whether you are on vacation with family or backpacking alone. The hotel is clean and comfortable. The staff is extremely friendly, service-oriented, and organized.

First the good news. This hotel has a great location in Miraflores near good restaurants and nightlife. That however, is the only good thing about it. A harbinger of things to come was the fact that the batteries in the TV remote were dead when I tried to use it. The lights bulbs in the room and bath were so dim I thought I was going blind. The windows were broken and wouldn't close, the sheets were torn and the exposed brick walls in the room and corridor had all the charm of a Dickensian workhouse. The hotel is five stories, but I would recommend that you don't use the elevator since it seemed to be in poor shape. This is a sad situation since this hotel could be quite pleasant if some effort was made to modernize the decor and pay attention to the amenities that travelers, quite rightly, insist upon.

I traveled to Lima to check out a business opportunity and to learn a bit about the city and the country.

I stayed at the Hotel Esperanza because of the strong reviews here and the superb pricing. It turned out to be an excellent decision.

The Esperanza is family-owned, and has been in business for decades. The current proprietor, Max, is the son of the original owner. He is a Lima native and seems to know everyone and to know everything about this energetic city.

I checked in very late at night-- after midnight-- and was resigned to not eating until morning. Without me asking, Max offered to go to the store and bring back some food for me. This was typical of him, and the front desk personnel were equally friendly and helpful.

All of the dining and shopping recommendations that they made were spot-on, and Max was even able to find me some tickets to one of the best dinner-shows in Lima after they had sold out.

The room was exceptionally clean and neat, and the housekeeping staff was thoughtful and accommodating.

I travel a lot, and I am not in the habit of noticing (let alone reviewing) hotel experiences--unless they are unusually bad ones. I expect a certain level of quality relative to the pricing and generally receive it.

However, this overall experience was so far superior to anything that one might anticipate, particularly at this price-point, that I felt compelled to put pen to paper. So to speak.

It is located on a street just off Parque Kennedy by the same name as the hostel, in Miraflores. You can use the place as somewhere you want to crash after sightseeing for the whole day.

You cannot spend any daytime here, because the hostel is quite cramped. The rooms have space enough only for the beds they have. And the bathrooms barely fit 1 person. The breakfast is very basic, just bread and eggs.

If you're looking for a good option at Miraflores, try Flying Dog instead.

I stayed at Hotel Esperanza for 4 nights. At first glance, I was not very impressed, but the place grew on me. Also, I had to remind myself of the price, which was great. I was very pleased with the simple but filling breakfast and the cafe itself, and the very friendly staff. Per other reviews in Trip Advisor, Max was indeed most helpful and courteous. We found delicous food, a park, fun bars, and even nightclubs, all within a few blocks' walk. The rooms facing the street can be noisy, and be sure you ask for a fan if the days are hot. The rooms and bathrooms, while small, were clean. The free wireless was a big help. I would stay there again.

Hotel Esperanza is a simply & elegant hotel; a 3-star hotel with 5-star service.
Max is a top gent whom offered alot; he did help arrange transport, etc..
Max has a brilliant knowledge of what the area has to offer for various age groups with regard to entertainment, dining, etc.
A bonus is that he could arrange various trips and tours.
This hotel is top of my list for accommodation in LIMA.
BRILLIANT!
