Owner description: Built in the form of a circular tower on a massive slab of granite, this sacred edifice contains the famous Intiwatana, or sun dial, which the Incas used to "tie down" the sun at the winter solstice each year.

The incredible stone work that and precision used when building the Temple of the Sun was stunning. Part of the Temple of the Sun stone work even extended into our Hotel, which was right across the street. To add as mentioned in another person review, it truly helps to have a great guide to explain everything. Gate1Travel.com does make sure that they provide travelers with some of the best guides around and the also use the best local guides to enhance your experiences.

The Inca clearly had much respect for the seasons and elements and they relied on the sun for growing-as a sun lover this was a must!

This is a pretty cool structure if you are interested in archaeoastronomy. Windows line up with solstices, and you can see what happens if you come here on those dates.

“The perfect wall and the fountains”
Reviewed 20 July 2013

One of the highlights of Machu Picchu, in the neighbourhood of the Temple of the Sun you find the most perfect specimen of Inca masonry, the Perfect Wall according to Hiram Bingham, and on the other side the sequence of fountains streaming down. The temple itself is not avcessible but you can get good views over the ropes.
