Owner description: Built in the form of a circular tower on a massive slab of granite, this sacred edifice contains the famous Intiwatana, or sun dial, which the Incas used to "tie down" the sun at the winter solstice each year.

Basically, the Temple of the Sun has a window where sunlight shines through which allows people to know the day of the year. Go early to miss the mid-day crowd

Temple of sun is very useful in Inca period. The window where sunlight shine through will allow people to know the exact date of the year.

Another amazing place at Machu Pichuu, try get there early to get good photos or otherwise be prepared to be amongst hundreds of others with there tour guides. Regardless though it's a great spot.

We started the hike in dense fog; a few guides were turning back because they said there would be nothing to see at the top. They were wrong! Perhaps we even enjoyed this more because the fog obscured the trail on our way up -- when it began to clear at the top, and we began our descent, we could see an amazing view (series of views, 360 degrees) below us open as if on display just for us. Mystical, magical, amazing.
