“Hitching post of the sun”
Reviewed 21 July 2013

This stone was important for identifying solstices and thus telling Inca when to plant/harvest their crops. It is usually included with most tours.

“Little piece chipped off by camera crew”
Reviewed 20 July 2013

The Intihuatana stone is at the summit of the sacred pyramid at Machu Picchu. Urban legend has it that it is roped off since an illegal camera crew managed to chip off a piece by their tripod falling on the stone in 2001. The sacred pyramid gets VERY busy during the day, we went after three and it was much more quiet and enjoyable.

“Glad it is roped off”
Reviewed 28 June 2013

After taking in alot of the tour of Machu Picchu we headed to the Intihuantana. After getting there, I was surprised to see that it was not crowded and roped off. It was great to be able to take a picture of it and take the time to see it without a crowd. This is an important part of the Machu Picchu ruins and should be seen.
