The bedroom was nice, the bathroom was large and clean, the price is excellent, and there is a lovely garden and huge lounge to relax in. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We really enjoyed our breakfast too.

Note on location: Ollantaytambo is a tiny town, and anywhere in there is within walking distance. That being said, Hostal Samanapaq is relatively far from the train station. If you have a lot of luggage, you may want to take a cab for around 3-4 soles, maybe 5 soles for a van.

We stayed 2 nights and found the staff very friendly and helpful, comfortable bedroom, good breakfast, location minutes from central plaza, lovely big garden with views of the surrounding mountains (it would be hard not to have such views). Very comfortable lounge area to relax in. What more do you need?

Stayed 2 nights. May get discount if you book directly with hotel.

Location - It's about 20 mins walk to the train station and about 15 mins walk to Fortress of Ollantaytambo. The town is small and everything is within walking distance but Samanapaq is in fact a bit out of the main area.

Hot shower: first night I had problem because the hot water ran out fast. Second night was fine because there is a trick to it: turn on both cold and hot water slowly and let it run until it's hot. Don't start turning only the hot water because this way you will drain all the hot water.

Internet: They only have WiFi in the lobby and breakfast room. No WiFi nor internet in the room.

Breakfast: good number of juices and breads, ham, cheese, tea, coffee, and made to order scrambled eggs (pretty tasty and generous portion)

Service: Staff is friendly and nice. Respond to email very quickly.

Not so good:
Street noise can be heard as it's situated next to the main road, this is the only road for cars to get into the town.

A lot of bugs near the white lights in the room and bathroom, they don't bite you but it's just a bit annoying.

We enjoyed our stay here. The staff were very friendly and the hotel grounds are beautiful, which made up for any negatives. The room was relatively simple but had character. However, I could never quite get hot water (usually lukewarm), even though there was a posted sign in the bathroom to let the water run until there was hot water. Breakfast was simple but it was in a charming building with a lot of character. Hotel is also within walking distance to the town square (about 7 min walk). Hotel let us keep our luggage here free of charge while we continued on to Aguas Calientes/Machu Picchu.

I would definitely stay here again.

Stayed 3 nights in Samanapaq while exploring the Sacred Valley. While not an unpleasant experience I thought I'd stay somewhere else if I came back. The good points: Spacious grounds with nice gardens, friendly welcome, clean room, good shower, nice breakfast. The not so good: My room window faced a corridor, so pretty dark and on display without curtains closed. The Hostal is next to main road into Ollantaytambo so in the morning you do hear the buses rattling towards the train station. I've never seen anybody sitting in the communal area which is nice but without much atmosphere. Given the price I'd rather stay somewhere in the back streets of Ollanta where there are a variety of nice looking places in a quiet and atmospheric surroundings.
Ollanta is well worth 2-3 days. One of the highlights for me are the Inca storehouse ruins opposite the main fortress. It's a 30 minutes hike rewarded with great views (go in the morning for best light), and it is free as well.

My wife and I, and two friends traveled to Ollantaytambo from Lima for a 3 night stay to check out the Sacred Valley (Pisac, Moray, Moras) and and left from there to see Machu Picchu. We were in Cusco/Sared Valley for most of the trip and this was by far the best place we stayed.

Spacious bedrooms, very nice, clean bathrooms, three different "sitting rooms" once with a fireplace, where each night, the owner made us a fire where we hung out and enjoyed a glass of wine or beer and relaxed. This place would be considered a top notch B&B /Guesthouse back in the US.

The grounds were meticulously maintained, with a beautiful garden to walk through, a veranda with hammocks and chairs to enjoy the day or evening, amazing views from almost any part of the grounds to the surrounding mountains, and a great big super friendly dog named Venus.

The staff was friendly and helpful, check-in was easy, the food was good (fresh scrambled eggs every morning, freshly squeezed juice, pastries, cereal and *strong* coffee!).

I fully recommend staying here if you are in Ollantaytambo. In fact, I recommend going from here, via train, to Machu Piccu, and back and skipping Aguas Calientes.

Gorgeous grounds. Lovely lounge area with a fireplace and fast wifi. Conveniently located on the edge of town. Spacious room & bathroom. Comfy beds. Plentiful hot water with rain shower head. Space heater.

Reception is friendly but not helpful. Potentially a language problem but I don't think so. We asked to have a light fixed, it never happened. We asked for a restaurant reservation. They didn't want to call. They don't even have bottled water for sale.
