“Quite comfortable and roomy, nice front desk too!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 May 2014

We originally booked two nights but stayed for three! Our room had a splendid view and ambiance as we were right next to the river, and the ruins were directly across. At night, it felt like a setting for a romantic play as the moon and stars crested above the mountain. The burbling sounds of the fast moving river were easy to get to sleep by, and we had some bird viewing and could also see the main bridge to see what bus our truck could possibly squeeze thru the streets. Front desk were all very kind and patient with our so/so Spanish and most spoke some English. One young man, Wilbur, happened to be in a collectivo we took to Urubamba, and was very charming and helpful. The bed was the most comfortable we slept in during our two week trip. The breakfast buffet was well done. The bathroom was my least favorite place as it was a bit smelly, but otherwise we felt lucky and pleased to enjoy such simple, but nice digs.

Room Tip: On the river side and ont eh second floor, if available.

We were a party of 4, 2 adults and 2 kids (11 and 7), stayed at this hotel in April, 2014.
Location wise it is unparalleled, probably the best location in Ollantaytambo, right by the Patacancha River, and between the main square (Plaza de Armas) and the ruins. From the room (or from the outside patio area and the breakfast area), you can see the river flowing next to you, and right in front of you is the Sun Temple of Ollantaytambo .. unbelievable setting and breathtaking view.
Our room was nice, cute and comfortable ... nothing fancy and no great shake .. would say total value for money. Its a small nicely decorated boutique hotel. We really enjoyed our stay there. The front-desk folks are extremely helpful, provided valuable information about restaurants, and shopping.
We highly recommend this hotel ... next time we visit MP we will definitely stay at this hotel.

Great location in a lovely setting. The breakfast room has a striking view of the ruins. Rooms are large and comfortable. The staff was outstanding, answering many questions about everything from restaurant suggestions, to arranging transportation, to insights about local customs. On the down side, our room was adjacent to the stairs, which was noisy in itself, but also, there's a gathering area with a TV in that area as well. Fortunately the TV watchers didn't stay too late, but it was annoying nonetheless. We also had problems with cold water in the shower, which the staff tried to resolve, but were never able to. Despite our troubles, we were overall very pleased with Hotel Sol, and would give it a thumbs up!

Room Tip: Ask for something away from the stairs and TV area

It is a very nice, comfortable hotel and is definitely a great value for the money. What really put it over the top for us was the staff. We had several travel issues to deal with and they were incredibly helpful and kind. The staff is, as they say in Spanish, truly "muy amable." It is an excellent place to stay.

Hotel Sol has probably the best location in all Ollanta, right by the Patacancha River, uphill from the train station and between the main square (Plaza de Armas) and the ruins. Rooms are nice, ample and comfortable. And the view from some of them and the breakfast area is just amazing!

The whole place has been tastefully decorated, and they provide an excellent service, always willing to go the extra mile. For example, when we arrived there with altitude sickness they took us to our room straight away, bringing a great coca and muña tea and skipping the whole check-in process. When we were about to leave for Machu Picchu at 4:00 am, they ran to the kitchen to pack breakfast for us. And they always provided valuable info about restaurants, shops, nearby attractions, costs and other tips.

Overall, we had a great time here and wished we stayed longer.

Room Tip: Unless you don't like the sound of water, ask for a room with a terrace or balcony facing the ri...

Hotel is charming, not an American chain hotel. Bed and lines were comfortable. We had the first train to MP and they fixed breakfast early for our party of 8. When we checked in a desk clerk went out and purchased bottled water for all of us and tried to assist me with finding a band aid for my blister. Service was great, view of the ruins was fantastic. We did not spend much time in the room. Our flight arrived late in Cusco so it was dark when we arrived. We spent only 2 nights and spent most of our day at MP and left the following morning. Only complaint was cold water in the shower. Had to ask at the front desk for a hair dryer as there was none in the room. Short walk to the train station. We wanted to get out of the Cusco altitude and this did the trick. Would definitely recommend and or stay again.

Room Tip: We were on the ground floor close to reception. Easy to maneuver luggage in and out and to get all...
