“An excellent starting point for Machu Pichu”
Reviewed 1 March 2014

I wouldn't have gone out of my way to get to this hotel but was so happy once I got here. After a week in the Sacred Valley in hostles with dirty shirts, no hot shower, no towels nor toilet papers this looked like a palace. Tatiana was wonderful and explained all the intricacies of how to buy the ticket to buy to Machu Pichu for the next day.
The hotel is well situated, coffee shops, restaurants and the train station. The room is of a good size, the shower is hot, with enough towels (in spite of what other reviewers have written I'm sure they would provide more if need be). The breakfast is very satisfactory.
The service is excellent and there is always someone available.

I liked the place so much that I decided to return the next day, after the excursion to Machu Pichu, rather then returning to Cusco late at night.
Thank you Tatiana.

We stayed here 1 night as part of our G Adventure booking.

We had 2 rooms, 1 double and a triple (for the kids). Although the rooms were not next to each other, we felt safe and comfortable.

We had our own private bathrooms although in the evening the water was not very warm and unfortunately, the following morning there was no power so no hot water at all. This was very disappointing as I was looking forward to a hot shower before our Inca Trail and was also wishing to re-charge batteries and phones. This is not the fault of the owners/managers but a fault in Peru generally.

Our rooms were spacious and the beds comfortable.

There was free Wi-Fi bit this did not work anywhere in the hostel for us. We had iphone 4s and 5s.

There is a lovely courtyard that I enjoyed first thing in the morning.

Breakfast was continental with fresh juices, breads, some cold meats and fruits. The coffee was great.

We did find the noise of others closing and opening their doors loud but this was not at an unruly time of night and we had a great sleep.

The location is fantastic with everything within walking distance and a mini mart just at the end of the street for any snacks and drinks that you might want.

We noticed that it was a 2 star rating and having stayed in many hostels around the world. We all thought that it would warrant a 3 star.

I love this place! Tatiana was very helpful to our needs. Our room was nice, plenty of hot water and view from our room was gorgeous! Yes, indeed, Tatiana would go out of her way to please us. Everything was walking distance. We left our bag when we toured the neighboring place and came back just in time to catch the train to Machu Picchu. The cab we took was arranged by the hotel. Thank you, Tatiana for your hospitality!

If you are in Ollantaytambo you are probably up to a an adventure to Machu Picchu, and if you happen to be with your kids, then you are in the right place if you need help.

The managers of this hotel were so helpful, that we probably would not make it to our visits without them. Ask for Tatiana, explain her your goals for the visit and I bet she will bend over backwards to help you.

Forget the TV and the towels, you need local help when you are far away in Peru, specially if you don't know how things work over there or if you get sick with Soroche!

Thanks again for the great people at Casa de Mama.

BTW, don't miss the pizeria at the back of the hotel!

Booked this hotel as part of a G-Adventures tour. Stayed here the night before heading to the Inca Trail, so for me the noise factor was a big deal. The walls are quite thin and the noise tends to echo a bit, so having kids screaming and running around at night is not ideal. However, the location is good, as is the breakfast. The room was pretty spacious. There's no heating and it can get pretty cold at night. The wifi didn't work in the rooms and was extremely sporadic in the lobby. The culmination of all these factors is probably a deal-breaker for me. All in all, it was an okay stay... but I'd probably try elsewhere for a more pleasant stay.

Hotel is so noisey, front desk never has anyone at it. Not enough towels for guests in the room. Owners have their LOUD children running all over like wild aninals. No tv in rooms along with a lack of any kind of heat and the rooms are freezing cold. Starting at 4:50am you can hear the tables in the lobby being dragged around on the floors as they set up for breakfast. At night there is absolutely no lights down the scarey alleyway you must take to get here. Hot water is not really something they offer either, which is perhaps why there is no towels either. You couldn't pay me to stay here again, it was by far the worst place ever I have stayed at :-(

I know that nothing I say will make you change your mind, we respect your opinion but let me explain a few points.
We serve breakfast early in the morning, at the request of the guests who wish to leave early to Machu Picchu, so we ask apologies if that caused a bit of noise on the first floor.
We also recognize that exceptionally some towels renew rainy days with some delay because we dry linen in the sun and not electric dryers.
The warmth of our service is most appreciated by most of our guests, very sorry that other factors have influenced their journey in their perception of our establishment, perhaps a delay in train schedule, a rainy day or just a bad day .
Please accept our deepest apologies.
atte,
Mercedes

Hard to find but not bad for price. When you re at the main plaza take the west road that leads down to the bridge but take an immediate left on what looks like a back road. At the end of that is casa de mama, our google map was wrong and threw us for a loop. The hotel is quite new so the rooms look and feel clean. However we did leave out some crackers and in an hour had a HUGE trail of ants you could see crawling out of the bathroom piping to get to them! Wifi was non existent, had to go to an Internet cafe to do anything. Shower was great and breakfast was really well done... Juice, coffee, tea, eggs, toast with jam, cereal. Also had a good sleep, very quiet and the staff were great, helping us to print our train tickets off to aguas calientas.
