“Very picturesque”
Reviewed 16 August 2010

After reading several reviews, we choose to book at The Albergue. We did everything through email with Sergio who was very kind at everytime. The hotel is located inside the train station, you have to pass through the gates from the street, you don`t have to wait in line just said to the security guards that you are going to the hotel. The gates are at the end of a very slim street fulll with vendors and store (there you can buy sodas and ask to keep them in the hotel fridge). The hotel is very picturesque, the wi fi works better in the old rooms. They gave us room number 3 facing the train station so it was hard to sleep because of the vibration and noise of the trains. The room was ok, everything works wells, the breakfast and food was very good. The staff is great and very kind. From the hotel to the Ollanta ruins and square you can take a biketaxi for 1 sol per person. We love this place, they offer excellent service, for example:they prepared our breakfast at 5AM the day we took the train to MPichhu and kept in custody our big luggage for 2 days.
We love our stay here !!
Thanks all traveller for your reviews.

This was my fourth stay at El Albegue, It is a lovely place with a helpful and cheerful staff. I always feel very secure and as a lover of trains I really enjoy that this hotel is inside the Ollantaytambo train station to Machu Picchu. Infact I hesitate to share it because it is such a coveted treasure. The last 3 times I have taken friends or family to Machu Picchu I have spent the night before and the night after at El Abergue. The food is great in the restraunt too and not overpriced like the food in Agua Calientes. I have also spent much more for less appointed rooms in Agua Calientes (which is a bit overpriced).
There is also a sauna with euctalyptus that you can use on request. A great way to end a trip to Machu Picchu as well.

Two friends and I stayed at El Albergue in July 2010 for three days. We found the accomodations to be comfortable and the staff excellent. We had hot water 24 hours a day, a comfortable shower and comfortable beds. The hotel had their driver pick us up at the Cuzco airport for transport to Ollantaytambo.

Sergio at the front desk never seemed to tire of all of our questions. He was a great source of information and always ready with a smile. Elizabeth and the other wait staff in the restaurant were always accomodating with special food needs due to allergies.

As advertised, the hotel is at the railroad station. As a result, we did have to deal with train noise and diesel fumes at times. This was the only negative, but I would still stay at El Albergue again if I return to the Sacred Valley. There are new rooms at the back of the property which will likely alleviate some of the train impact.

This was a great find and I recommend El Albergue to anyone visiting the Sacred Valley.

This charming hotel has a lovely patio and attentive service. My sister and I felt like we were special guests during our entire visit. We enjoyed the sauna with eucalyptus leaves and absolutely loved the fresh, gourmet meals. What a treat! Sergio at the front desk was so friendly and helpful too!

The staff in this hotel is wonderful. The food is incredible!!!!!!!. The rooms are very comfortable. The location is fun. I would get up each morning and watch the porters returning form their Macchu Picchu trek get their huge bags off the train. Then I would walk to Ollantay to watch the town wake up. Advice: Take advantage of the lovely hikes out of Ollantay..Pumamarca, Ancopacha, Huilloc, Pacchaj, Las Canterras etc. Get to know the lovely people that live here. Take a guide with you wherever you go You will learn so much more. We spent 10 days at El Albergue and had a fantastic time .

El Albergue is the perfect location if you plan on taking the early train to Machu Picchu or traveling around the area for a few days.. The rooms are lovely. They are clean. The windows are left open during the day to let the fantastic air in.There is wifi in the rooms. Yes, there are no toiletries in the room. However, the staff is lovely and will go out of their way to accommodate you. They have pick up service from Cusco airport with a great driver. They are right at the train station.
Town is a short walk away. You can get a tuk tuk for a dollar to take you into town or back. l usually stay at 5 star hotels. El Albergue will make you feel at home. There are no televisions in the room.

I read great reviews of this place so went in with pretty high expectations. I was sorely disappointed as I found the staff to be very unhelpful and, given the high relative price of the rooms there, I was really surprised at how stingy they were at every turn. Finally, the room was full of mosquitoes...
