Pakaritampu Hotel has lush landscaping and comfortable, quiet spacious rooms.
A few blocks from the plaza, Pakaritampu is convenient to town and is a 3 minute walk to the train and bus station. Use their telescope to find the Southern Cross. The resident llamas are adorable. Great breakfast. Living room available to guests with fireplace.

This hotel has a beautiful setting with llamas roaming the grounds, flower gardens throughout the area. It has the feeling of a lodge more than a hotel. The rooms are large and tastefully decorated. The breakfast room was very cozy. They have a TV room and reading room also, although we did not use either. The staff was very helpful. We were not able to get to the hotel on the first night as the farmers had rocks in the road and on the train tracks protesting water rights. The hotel did not charge us for the first night that we were unable to get there. We would have loved to spend 2 nights here though. The location to the train station is perfect, like one block. It is the closes hotel to the station. The rooms were quiet. I would stay here again without any hesitation.

We only stayed at the Pakaritampu for one night, but we enjoyed it. The grounds are lovely. The bed was a bit small, but the rooms were adequate and clean.
We had a great meal in the hotel's restaurant, and took advantage of the happy hour discount of 50% off drinks. (Pisco sours...mmmmm.)
The location right next to the train station was great, since we had a 5:30 a.m. train to Machu Picchu.
The front desk staff was helpful and happy to hold our luggage while we were at Machu Picchu. They also helped us pack up a tasty breakfast to go at 5 a.m. for our train ride.

All the wonderful things noted in the other reviews about this hotel are spot on. The grounds are spectacular, the flowers in the gardens reminiscent of an English country estate. Well insulated rooms with comfortable beds, the photos don't do them justice because the color scheme makes them look like scout camp... Location is 75m's from the train station (but you won't be bothered by the train noise), and a 10 minute walk to the town square or the Ollantaytambo ruins. Breakfast buffet had quite an assortment of food. Dinner was good, with prices comparable to what you'd expect of Lima (or Houston for that matter). They have 3 alpacas (penned in a corner of the property) that they let out in the morning to greet the guests going to breakfast. There are also lawn chairs to sit and enjoy the gardens.

On our first night there our room's hot water didn't work. The staff was very apologetic and let us use the shower in an adjoining room while they fixed the problem. Service to our room was restored a few hours later.

We had purposely scheduled 3 days in Ollantaytambo to be able to absorb the feeling of the place. Staying at Pakaritampu allowed us to enjoy the town but still be able to spoil ourselves by returning to an oasis of calm and comfort. Ironically, the fact that internet use cost US$1/hour was also a good thing as it made us less inclined to check our email and focus on enjoying Ollantaytambo instead.

The grounds are gorgeous with resident llamas (alpacas?) and a telescope that you can use to view the ruins. We were relegated to separate twin beds (a common theme in Peru -- perhaps because we have different last names? or maybe because 2 twin beds are more versatile than a full/queen bed?), but the room was comfortable with a nice shower and a working safe. No TV in the room, but there is a TV in a common area. We walked up the road at night to walk around the town & have dinner at Mayupata-- it took maybe 15-20 minutes b/c we were going SLOWLY as it was our first night at higher altitude and we were constantly staring up at the sky because the stars are amazing & you can clearly see the Milky Way. When we came back from dinner the gate was locked, which freaked us out and we contemplated trying to break in... until we realized that there was a not-very-obvious doorbell on the side of the gate. Upon ringing it, we were let in promptly. The hotel is a convenient 5 min walk to the train station.

Hotel Pakaritampu was a very pleasent suprise. The place is very well taken care of,,,has a southwest theme, beutiful gardens with lots of huming birds, good security, and is located right by the train station. Quick check in with some complimentary coca tea. The room was large and there are plenty of blankets for those warm nights. We stayed two nights with a train trip to Machu Pichu in between.

Breakfast is included with your stay and starts well before the first trains leave in the morning. Breakfast is just OK...they also feed you on the Vistadome train. We had dinner here both nights and had good meals...I even tried the Alpaca steak...it was good.

The Hotel is about 1 1/2 hour drive from Cusco. We rented a car but most people take the train, taxi, or bus (minivan). The road is in good shape, paved all the way with great views the entire trip. The town itself is great with adobe buildings and cobbled roads. They have street vendors, but they are less pushy than other areas and the prices seemed to be less expensive than Aquas Caliente.

You walk to the train station and it is only a couple of hundred yards down hill. There are some vendors there selling water, gateraid, and snacks for you trip. You can get coffee and other hot drinks. They sell cheap rain ponchos and they could save a trip if it is raining up higher.

Would certainly stay there again if I am ever back in the area.

First impressions were great - fabulous, colourful gardens and wonderful setting for this hotel. Our room and bathroom were spotless and we were glad to have made the decision to stay here. However apart from the porter who helped us with our luggage to the station in the morning, the staff were less than friendly, and not particularly helpful. We decided to eat in the restaurant that evening and the service was terrible. We were the only people in the restaurant and got the feeling that they would rather not have bothered with us at all. Breakfast was slightly better, but the lack of friendliness made us glad we were only staying one night, which was a pity.
