“Lovely Night in the Sacred Valley”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 March 2010

Beautiful mountain setting close to the train station. If you are planning on spending a night in the Sacred Valley before or after your visti to Machu Picchu, the Pakaritampu is a great pick. Its like a little village filled with gardens, a flowering sanctuary hidden by the lush mountain peaks, in view of Ollantaytambo. Hummingbirds buzz around the flowers outside the rooms and in the lobby, there is a giant fireplace for everyone to enjoy, along with a television, board games and a small, but busy bar area. The food at the restaurant is well prepared local fare. The rooms were clean and well decorated and certainly fit in with the area. We were very happy with our stay here and glad we chose to spend a night here instead of going back to Cuzco after touring the valley.

We spent one night at Hotel Pakaritampu prior to starting the 'Inca Trail' hike through the Southern Explorations tour group. The hotel consists of several small adobe buildings, each with 8 rooms or so and surrounded by beautiful gardens. Looking up... we had stellar views of the Andes mountains and the Incan ruins of Ollantay, and when we woke up in the morning there were several alpaca outside in the quad area nibbling on some gradd. Very photogenic environment, and a great way to get our last real sleep and shower before starting out on the trail. The rooms were large and comfortable, and our entire group slept great. The hotel is very conveniently located within Ollantaytambo.. right between the train station and the town and allowing easy access to both. The restaurant on-site was quite good, and we had a great time at night relaxing in the main sitting room with a fireplace and talking to other travelors that were passing through.

The gardens really are beautiful, and we found that the rest of the facility and people were just as good. We spend two nights here coming straight from the Cusco airport and used it as a base while we explored the sacred valley and then got on the train to MP. Ate two dinners at the restaurant and they were both good. Staff was always helpful and ran to help us with bags. The train station is literally less than 5 minutes walk down the hill from the hotel. And the hotel kept our bags at no charge while we went to MP. It's a 6-8 minute walk up the hill to the Plaza de Armas and shops, ATMs, etc. Just a super place and great way to start our trip.

Wow, what a pleasure. I had no idea this hotel would be so nice. The village of Ollantaytambo was muddy, dusty, and in general a construction zone. Yet a short walk away from the hub bub is this fantastic little hotel. The front desk was courteous, the grounds are an amazing collection of native plants and flowers, and the views are spectacular. At night there is a beautiful common area near the restaurant and bar that has a roaring fire and comfortable couches to rest on. Breakfast was included in the price and was nice. I traveled Peru for 3 weeks, and I enjoyed this hotel the most.

Stay hear for the beatiful gardens and many hummingbirds. They also have a public access telescope to see the nearby ruins of Ollantaytambo on the high above hills and the stars at night. Access to the Peru Rail train station is the best...walking 5 minutes at most down the hill for your early morning train to Machu Picchu. The staff is also very friendly, attentive and helpful.

We originally planned to stay 1 night in Aguas Calientes. But due to no train for the day (the strike in late June), we had to change our plan and stay in Ollantaytambo instead. We had reserved seats on the first train to MP (5:30 am), so we decided to choose a place to stay near the train station.

Not being able to find the El Albergue guest house, which is located INSIDE the train station (so strange) and we did not know, we settled with Pakaritampu hotel. However if after trekking and camping for a few days and you do need something more first-world standard (hot shower with good water pressure, electric heater & clean spacious rooms with club house restaurant and bar), then it may be a sensible to stay here.

Ollantaytambo is a very cute small town in SV with original incan architecture and aqueduct system. I would highly recommend to stay in this town for more than 1 night. However there are cheaper options to stay and you may want to look more.

This hotel is composed of several villas. Each villa has about 5 - 6 guest rooms. The ground is nicely kept.

The hotel staff had the-big-hotel-syndrome - nothing personal and please don't take it personal. There is a computer at the reception area for guests to use for a small fee. No WIFI.

Breakfast was the best thing. They make fresh eggs, wide variety of cereals and bread. And they serve early enough that we made it to the first train without problem.

However we ordered lunch bag to take with us to MP as well which I found them expensive ($9) for really crappy sandwiches and snacks. One sandwich had 1 piece of cheese and 1 piece of ham. The other has just 1 slice of cheese. Both did not have butter and neither mayo. I suggest you pack your own lunch or eat at the Sanctuary Hotel if you have a lot of time.

For the rates that they are charging, I would recommend the hotel at least add an outdoor jacuzzi so that guests can relax themselves after sightseeing. And definitely "re-humanize" the staff so that they are "alive" again.

Great hotel, great location, pretty decent facilities. Let down, unfortunately, by front desk staff who were arrogant and uninterested in providing a service to the same standard as the rest of the hotel. Bar and restaurant staff were the complete opposite - helpful and courteous.... Oh, and having paid top-price our two nights, we were then made to pay for use of the internet!
