Urubamba Villas
Reviewed 6 June 2012

Thr Urubamba villas in the Sacred Valley are the perfect way to relax after a long day of hiking Ollentytambo and the Inca ruins in the Sacred Valley. This is a small private property with only six 2 and 3 bedroom villas. Absolutely beautiful grounds, with flora and fauna. They also have their own vegetable gardens. The best part of the villas are their staff. Susan was our host and greeted us. She took care of all our needs and answered all of our questions. Susan introduced us to Monica, who was our own private cook and housekeeper assigned to our villa. Monica started a great fire in the natural fireplace for us to relax by while she prepared a wonderful Peruvian dinner for us. She served us our four course dinner and then cleaned everything up. She politely said good night and quietly left us to enjoy the fire, beautiful music and fresh coffee. They arrange all of your services on your time table. We requested that breakfast be served at 8:00am, so Monica quietly entered through the kitchen door around 7:15am and then served us a beautiful breakfast with homemade breads, pancakes, cheeses, etc. we would highly recommend this place to anyone!

Room Tip: They offer 2 and 3 bedroom private villas. All are excellent, so choose one based on the size of you...

A perfect combination of rustic luxury and authenticity. Staying at Urubamba Villas was indeed one of my trip´s highlights. These charming villas nestled in a beautiful setting are surrounded by natural gardens, orchards and Andean landscapes. Villas have been carefully furnished with local crafts and offer large spaces. The place gives a sensation of peacefulness, privacy and flexibility. Ideal for relaxing after exploring the sacred valley as our own housekeeper lit the fireplace and cooked a superb dinner for us. Location is also perfect; low altitude, mild climate, only about 15 minutes from Ollantaytambo station and 1 hour by train to Machu Picchu.

A very authentic and comfortable lodging alternative, great staff, excellent service. Highly recommendable.

Room Tip: All villas are different but keep the same style. Two types; 2 and 3 bedroom Villas. Be sure to incl...

This was fantastic. There are only a handful of individual villas on site - we had a two bedroomed, two storey villa to ourselves with our own housekeeper who cooked us a fabulous dinner and breakfast. She was very discrete arriving at an agreed time via a private door so as not to distrub us. The villa was luxurious - beautifully decorated and appointed in an eco-style. The garden setting and surrounding area are stunning. We sat outside on our private terrace with a bottle of wine watching the sunset. A lovely romantic evening during our honeymoon trip. The location is down a narrow road and we were picked up at the end of the road by the local mototaxi (like a tuk-tuk) which was an expereince in itself. There is another hotel with a simialr name in the area - so be careful not to book that by mistake - as this is just wonderful. Our pick up the next morning (to catch the train to Machu Picchu) was late as he went to the wrong one!

Room Tip: ALL THE ROOMS ARE FABULOUS Ensure you book in advance for brekfast and evening dinner - having your...

We spent three days at the Urabamba Villas and I am hard pressed to highlight what I liked most -- while the villas themselves were the perfect combination of a beautifully appointed warm spacious peruvian country house and a wonderful luxury guest retreat, and the surroundings of the Sacred Valley were stunning -- I think that our favorite memory is that of the people. Berta, who was our fantastic cook, chef, housekeepper, woman Friday was a marvel -- everything she did was imbued with a warmth, hospitality and friendliness that was touching and made saying goodbye to her the hardest part of leaving. Russell, the General Manager, could not have been more welcoming or helpful throughout our entire stay. It really did feel like a home away from home -- a beautiful, warm and lovely one.

BEAUTIFUL! Both the casitas and the environment. Excellent home cooked meals – prepared by your “maid” – allows you to sample many traditional Peruvian dishes and Peruvian wine. A bit secluded, but very romantic. Great altitude for acclimation (lower than Cusco). Not within walking distance to the city of Urubamba, but after a quick taxi ride we determined there wasn’t much to do in town (although it’s a large city, all the recommended bars that were listed in our guidebook were closed). They have a great collection of CDs you can listen to (jazz, lounge, etc) and games to play. It’s a great place to forget the world for a couple days. Typically, there is wi-fi access; however, the days we were there the connection was not working. The manager was exceptionally nice about it and laundered our dirty clothes (came straight from the Amazon!) for no charge. Overall, a very nice, relaxing stay!

We spent 3 nights at the villas - very large and comfortable for a couple. Each villa has its own chef/cleaner, who cooks local dinner and a healthy breakfast (but no consultation as to what the guests would like for dinner). Sitting next to the log fire listening to (on an anicent CD player) to your choice of music after a decent dinner was blissful.

The website refers to lots of excursions - but these are very expensive relative to the cost of organising a trip oneself. The manager was not very ready to share ideas about independent excursions.

The villa has a lovely location just outide Uruabamba itself.

For the price, more could be included - only water and one bottle of wine are included as drinks.

The cook only speaks Spanish.

I would recommend a couple of nights outside Cusco in the Sacred Valley itself
