The Rio Sagrado is a top level hotel in seemingly the middle of nowhere. Clean, upscale and in an absolutely beautiful setting. Room was not over the top in furnishings, but very nice...beautiful, clean bathroom...great food, spa, and service...wish we were there longer, but we had one great night.

I can only give this hotel 4 stars due to their laundry prices, see below.
We stayed here 3 nights while doing different activities in the valley before heading to Machu Picchu. The hotel is beautiful, the rooms stunning with views of the grounds and rivers. The showers surrounded by glass with dense bushes/flowers surrounding it so no one can see inside.
The alpaca's are a cool tourist attraction of the property. The property also has ladies that come around each morning and afternoon selling their wares, if you didn't get anything in Cusco. Good prices too.
We ate at the restaurant several nights and never had a bad meal. Service was great and staff very friendly. The hotel also arranged for a taxi to take and pick us up at a place to eat in town, about 10 minutes away.

We got a great chuckle next night with a letter from the staff, obviously via google translate. They were very cute notes

WARNING- We came from the Galapagos to this hotel, needed laundry done. We knew it wouldn't be cheap (no hotel is) BUT 5 dollars for each underwear? I decided to do the sink wash, my husband paid 97.00 for laundry and our friends paid 240.00 for laundry. So next time we pay the overage charges at the airport and bring more clothing, it would be cheaper that way. No hotel should take advantage of their guests and gouge them for laundry.

All in all great place.

Dear Kathy,

We are glad to read that you had enjoyed our beautiful Belmond Hotel Rio Sagrado, especially the local experience with the alpaquitay and the weavers at the garden.

Regarding the laundry comment, we would like to say that our purpose is to provide the best quality service. Our laundry rates are competitive compared to the other hotels. Even though we will take your comment into consideration.

Your sincerely,

By far one of the nicest hotels we stayed out. The view of the river was worth every dollar. Feed the llamas and alpacas in the morning! Don't miss the restaurant just steps from your door. As a food writer they past my very critical standards. The food was some of the best I had in Peru. Don't' miss their Barbecue NIght!

Room Tip: Get one down by the river

We spent two nights in this upscale hotel during our voyage through the Sacred Valley. So let us start with few facts: there are no TV sets in the room. Probably lack of TV signal as on demand they can supply you with TV+DVD set and some "Oscar hits movies". There is also no gym but they have great heated swimming pool (infinite view - 2m at the deepest). Service is very good. As we were leaving before opening the Restaurant for the breakfast, they did start working 20m earlier to feed us. Food (we had also dinners) was really good.

What we also Iiked was exact access to the Urubamba River, great Garden with Hummingbirds flying and Lamas in your view. Generally, very good hotel. Recommended.

Wish we could have stayed here for a longer period of time, but the 2 days we spent here were magical. During the day, we toured the Sacred Valley. At night, we wandered the grounds of the hotel, enjoyed our wonderful balcony and gazed at the stars in the Southern Sky. This small hotel blends into the landscape and is very organic and feels like a spa. It is a very calming place, and the rooms are spacious, clean, quiet and comfortable. The service is excellent and the staff makes each guest feel very special. My only complaint is that the resort is built on a very steep hill and after walking all day visiting ruins, we were dreading the walk down to dinner and back up the hill to our room. Other than that, this place was perfect. We stayed here prior to June 2013 on our trip to Peru.
