We were so pleasantly surprised here . Welcoming staff , lovely gardens and views of the mountains ... live music at dinner with dancers ... wifi and computers in lobby , close to town ...
I would stay here again if ever in the area ...

First, let me start by saying the grounds and the facilities were beautiful. Manicured gardens and very well kept builidngs with clean rooms. This aspect of the hotel is fantastic, considering the more rural location. The hotel staff was also very accommodating. I had a very strange bathroom light that kept flicking on and off (even though the light switch was off) and so they changed my room with no problem. The small on-site restaurant is rather plain, considering how much thought went into the rest of the grounds, and it only served one dinner option that night. Since I don't like salmon, I was not truly excited about it, but the cream of asparagus soup (as with all the soups on this trip to Peru) was excellent. The problem came at night. As you may know, Peru, like most all of South American countries, has an overabundance of stray dogs. And the stray dogs tend to come out at night to "stake" or "claim" their territory. Which means a lot of barking and occasional fights. This is why when I travel to these countries I try to get the highest floor in the hotel. Because of the location of this hotel (very rural, in the midst of mostly residential) the barking, from numerous dogs, started about 9 pm and continued through about 2 in the morning. It was like a pack of wild dogs were running through the courtyard area, and the barking was so intense and loud, and there were occassional fights amongst the dogs. It was so annoying and was impossible to sleep through. Then, at 4 in the morning, the roosters started crowing and didn't stop until sunrise around 6 am. There were a lot of roosters too, not just one. So, just before the day I was to visit Machu Picchu, I had absolutely no sleep. It was totally miserable. I had called the front desk a couple times in the middle of the night but nobody answered. It's really too bad, because the hotel is adorable and very well kept. The lobby is really nice too, with free computers to use and a lovely chess set that is begging to be used. Perhaps the hotel can do something about the dogs, but doubtful that will happen anytime soon.

Room Tip: Choose a room away from the main courtyard, at night, the lamp posts are left on and they are very bright.
