Kuychi Rumi is amazing!
It is wonderful to have an Andean cottage instead of a room. Our teen-age son loved his separate bedroom and bathroom. As a matter of fact, he said this was his favorite spot for our 18 day trip to Peru.
Claudia is wonderful. We got the starter kit and enjoyed the fresh bread brought to our cottage each morning. I celebrated my birthday here and Claudia baked me a birthday lemon pie. It was delicious and such a wonderful surprise! The only thing that could compete was her wonderful hug. She is so special.
Rodrigo helped plan our trip, arranged all trains, arranged tours in the Sacred Valley, Cusco and Colca Canyon. Rodrigo, the guides you arranged were excellent! Thank you so much! Also, thank you to David, he was a terrific guide who stayed with us through the Sacred Valley, Machu Picchu and Cusco. And our driver, Synovio, he was very special also. An excellent driver who was also very warm and special. It was wonderful to have the same driver over several days.
We all three loved having the fireplace lit for fires in the evening. Wonderful.
We left our larger bags at Kuychi Rumi to go to the Machu PIcchu citadel. It was nice to have lighter belongings to carry. We spent one night at the Sanctuary Lodge.
Thank you to Ursula. When our bags did not appear from the Sanctuary Lodge for our return trip to the Sacred Valley (Kuychi Rumi), and we couldn't reach anyone at the Sanctuary Lodge, I called Ursula at Kuychi Rumi. Amazingly, someone appeared from the Sanctuary Lodge to take us to our bags. Ursula took care of our problem, like magic.
One night we ordered carry-out pizza. The pizza didn't arrive and the restaurant said there was a problem getting a taxi for delivery. Ursula sent one of Kuychi Rumi's drivers to pick up our pizza for us.
The gardens are beautiful. The property is very safe and secure. Our family had privacy, yet there was someone always there to take care of our problems.
We highly recommend Kuychi Rumi and we hope that we can return to this perfection.

Just got back from my Peru vacation, 3 nights of which we spent at the Kuychi Rumi (KR). I can honestly say we were so sad to leave the KR. The hotel is a series of about 6 or 7 two bedroom/ two bath duplex cabins equipped with full kitchens and fire places. We booked this hotel at the suggestion of a friend and were beyond impressed by the comfort and overall unique experience we had at the KR. It's location was perfect, being right in the middle of all the main Sacred Valley attractions. And the staff attentiveness was second to none. Many thanks to Ursula, Rodrigo, Claudia, and Senobio for making our trip unforgettable.

Spent 2 nights at Kuychi Rumi in August 2010 and loved our stay. I was blown away by the grounds - the gardens were blooming and the dogs were super friendly. Made me feel right at home. Rodrigo, Ursula & Claudia were very accommodating and great with suggestions. They arranged for our driver for the time we were in Sacred Valley - Victor - who was very nice and timely in getting us from here to there. Be sure to enjoy one of their breakfasts - they are delicious. Fresh eggs, yummy fruit and the best juice ever! I would highly recommend!

We just returned from a fabulous trip to Peru, where we spent 4 of 15 nights in Kuychi Rumi. The place is very attractive, and the grounds and homes are very nice. You can trust the photos on Trip Advisor . . . they are very accurate.

We liked our Unit -- #3 -- which was attractively appointed with nice furniture, beautiful decorations, and comfortable beds with cozy and colorful linens. The six dogs were awesome, and our two children (ages 4 and 7) actually cried when we left because they were going to miss them! The dogs did have a downside, however. For example, when I called to inquire why the patio furniture had no cushions, I was told that the dogs would ruin them. When a filthy cushion was brought, one of the gods peed on it within minutes and then laid down on it for a nap. I guess they weren’t kidding! Really, though, even if this was funny, it was a really bummer not to be able to sit on the beautiful patio, especially when we were paying $300/ night. They should do something about this ... clients before dogs, I would suggest! Remember that the 8% service charge and 6% credit card fee really add up. I should note that we didn't like the fact that we had to pay twice as much for bringing our two young children (ie the same house costs half as much with just two adults in it) . We knew this ahead of time, of course, but we were very bummed to find that the staff was not particularly friendly to the kids, despite the fact that they were paying full price and were very well behaved.

We were not at all wowed by the staff like most reviewers are, though this might be partly explained by the fact that we didn’t really see anyone around. In fact, despite being there during the height of high season, we were the only guests. The other six houses were unoccupied. When we arrived, Rodrigo – despite communicating with me via E-mail for about 4 months (he was very helpful) acted like he had never heard of me, and after a rather cool hello, was not to be seen again for the entire stay. My wife and I felt a bit strange the whole time, but figured there must be an explanation. Our lack of contact with the rest of the staff may also be explained by the fact that we opted out of the very expensive (by Peruvian standards) breakfast -- $32 for a family of four – and opted instead to buy equally delicious victuals in town at a tiny fraction of the price and make use of the kitchen and very cozy eating area. In fact, we would highly encourage all guests to do this. Going into town and buying food was easy and fun -- we just stopped on the way back from a day of adventures -- and the kitchen had everything necessary to make nice meals.

One of the highlights of the stay was the roaring fire that was started for us each night. It was awesome to come back after a long day of hiking and exploring, and wind down in front of the fire with a beer or a glass of wine. The kids loved to fall asleep on the couches to the sound of the roaring flames and crackling wood. Take advantage of this service . . . it must account for the much of the 8% that they tack on to the bill. We felt that the Kuychi Rumi's owners should just include this charge in the room rate to avoid looking like they are nickel-and-diming their customers. To be sure, we didn’t really receive any services that are not offered by any other hotel/condo/resort.

One big complaint that we had was the strong smell of sewage in the kitchen that got worse when we flushed the toilet. They were not sure what was causing this, but I assume that it will be fixed soon if it hasn't already. Inquire before booking, and ask not to get unit #3 if you plan on using the kitchen a lot like we did.

We loved our driver, Jorge, who was very polite and punctual. My wife and I are native Spanish speakers, so we cannot comment on his English language skills. He was extremely warm and friendly to us and our children, he was patient, and he was full of interesting information. He really knows the area and the sites. We also felt very safe with him, and would highly recommend him to anyone! The prices that we paid for his services were very reasonable, if not a downright bargain. Having said this, it must be noted that we were turned off by his countless stories about the huge tips his rich customers always gave him -- hundreds of dollars, digital cameras, gold watches. His great service will get him good tips, not stories of amazingly generous past customers. We were also a bit leery about his enthusiastic offers to take us to certain expensive places like Awana Kancha or the tourist shops in Chinchero, for example. We may be completely wrong here, but we couldn't help wondering if he was getting a commission. If so, he deserves it, but should have more been forthcoming. Just be firm, and don't go anywhere you don't want to. Just a note: if you go to Chinchero, avoid the homes at the town entrance unless you need to pay with a credit card. Prices are almost twice as much as in the market.

RodrigoR, Manager at Kuychi Rumi, responded to this review, 1 September 2010
The management of Kuychi Rumi (KR) regrets to hear when a guest is not 100% satisfied, especially after facts that could have been resolved if management had been made aware. Our dogs could have been kept in the front area or guests could have been moved to a house with a privacy fence. We would have of course taken care of the dirty cushion and seen to the problem of the mishap with the dog. Regarding the service charge and the price of the house, this is information that all guests have prior to booking their stay with us. Our 8% service charge is below the normal 10 or 12% customary of hotels in the area.
We don’t include the services in our hotel Charge so guests can know what goes to the Hotel and what goes to the persons that work with us.

We make no distinction as to the age of the occupants; rather it is the fact that bedrooms are utilized, all beds are used, cleaning, laundering and tear and wear are more extensive. The price for the use of the second bedroom is not double but in fact $60 dollars less; and the advantage of having a house instead of two rooms in a hotel is enormous. Again prices including service fee are accepted by guests before making their reservations.

Our staff is friendly towards all guests, adults and children. Rodrigo's hours are around 9 to 5. If the guests leave early and come back after 5 it is very possible to miss him altogether. But if our guests make it known that they would like to visit with Rodrigo or Claudia, they will find the time to do so. It is true that guests who opt to have Buffet breakfast at our place have more opportunities to talk with Claudia and the staff who serve them; but management understands that some people would rather take care of their own meals. The houses have fully equipped kitchens and that is why breakfast is an option; as well as the starter-kit. The goal of management is to provide as many options as possible to keep all guests more than 100% satisfied.

Again Kuychi Rumi regrets any inconvenience to our guests. Occasionally tree roots grow into the sewer line unnoticed by our maintenance staff. But as soon as the problem is reported it is solved.

We are always glad to hear our guests enjoy the uniqueness of our fireplaces, the daily supply of wood and start-up service provided. We are proud of our drivers' courteous manners, punctuality, knowledge of the area and the safety of professional driving. As far as we know, they do not get commission for taking passengers to stores. Kuychi in fact recommends a visit to Awanacancha for the unique and free experience of seeing (very closely) a variety of llamas and alpacas as well as a detailed explanation of the process and technique of dying the wool. Purchasing and tipping are always optional; though we will call attention to our drivers to refrain in the future of commenting about how they are tipped.

We welcome guests comments as opportunities to learn, correct, improve and continue to strive to provide enjoyment, service satisfaction and a unique experience to all of our guests.

We loved Kuychi Rumi! The house was fabulous - roomy and beautifully designed. The breakfast package was delicious - Rodrigo's mom makes the fruit preserves - yum! And fresh bread hung on the door each morning. The drivers hired for us were both perfect. I actually like the Sacred Valley better than both Cusco and Machu Picchu. This place was relaxing; the people were warm and welcoming, and the hidden restaurants delicious.
Our daughter was thrilled with the family dogs onsite. I was not as thrilled since they tend to bark all night long. Rodrigo said he is planning to move the dogs at night to eliminate the problem.
If I get a chance to return, I will definitely stay here again!

My husband, our 21 year old daughter and I recently stayed in Kuychi Rumi and were impressed with their level of customer service.

Rodrigo helped me plan everything ahead of time and even booked our flights from Lima to Cuzco and our train tickets to Machu Picchu. (We booked back in September before the flooding and had no worries rebooking the train tickets since Rodrigo was taking care of it.) The manager, Ursula was extremely pleasant and ready to help with anything we needed including dinner reservations, ordering take out, etc.

We had a private car & driver for our day trips. Our driver, Reuben was excellent. He’s a very safe driver and was flexible when we wanted to adjust our plans.

The houses are rustic, but nice. There was a bedroom and bath on the main floor for our daughter, and a master bedroom and bath upstairs for us. The water pressure is a little low, but the water was nice and hot. Their “start-up” pack of food was a real convenience. The grounds are beautiful and relaxing. There are a few dogs on property, but they are friendly. The only bad point I can make is one of the dogs likes to bark a lot at night and may keep you awake.

We wanted to be able to do things at our own pace and not be stuck to a tour group schedule. It was less expensive for the three of us to stay in a private house with our own driver than it would have been to buy a tour package. I’d highly recommend everyone at Kuychi Rumi.

Kuychi Rumi surpassed our expectations not only in beauty and comfort but also in the services it provides. Claudia and Ursula are a joy to be around. The luscious native gardens surround the unique houses that blend with the mountains. Our house was beautifully decorated and we enjoyed the fireplace in the evenings. We were very comfortable in our cozy Andean house with all the modern luxuries, including a microwave and wi-fi. The arrangements they made for our trip to Machu Picchu, Pisaq, Moray and Maras were perfect and we appreciated our drivers' courteous ways, punctuality and friendliness. Its location in the Urubamba Valley helped us adjust to the altitude. We did Ollantaytambo first, then Machu Picchu and the other sites. By the time we got to Cusco we were ready to walk its ancient streets without any problems. I wish we could have stayed longer. There are many more archeological sites to see around there and we were so happy we did not want to leave. Hope to return soon. Gracias Claudia, Ursula and Rodrigo.
