“Expensive but worth it”
Reviewed 11 January 2013

A wonderful hotel with top class customer service. It is worth the extra you are paying to stay here because it is a great place to come back to and relax after some hard sightseeing. The rooms are tasteful and spaciuos and the whole setting is special with mountains and a flowing river nearby.

The restaurant is excellent but pricey. There are also excellent places to eat nearby and the centre iof Urumbamba is not far away.It is very convenient for many of the sites and I would definitely prefer this to staying in Cusco

We stayed 3 nights, November 23 - 25 at this resort. Getting here from Cusco was an amazing experience though the mountains and valleys. The views were breathtaking.

The hotel was located in a sleepy town of Urubamba and located at a lower altitude than Cusco so makes it a perfect base to explore Machu Picchu.

Pros:
1. Beautiful hotel and property. Room has an amazing shower.
2. Train station on property to goto Machu Picchu
3. Amazing infinity pool that is heated and goes outdoors so you can see the stars.
4. Good value if your are an spg member as you can use cash and points.
5. Great restaurant at the hotel.
6. Service at this hotel is amazing.
7. Location is perfect for exploring sacred valley.

Cons:
1. Breakfast is expensive.

Room Tip: If you are 3 persons and use cash points be aware there is a $100 per night extra charge. This is st...

We arrived in Cusco and immediately traveled by van to the hotel. The transportation was arranged by the hotel, a little bit pricier, but no hassels at the end of a long day of travel. We spent four nights here. Wonderful place to explore the Sacred Valley and easy for altitude adjustment. We have stayed at many "Luxury Collection" hotels and this property deserves that category. Beautiful property with terrific service. The cash and points option was a great deal. We were even upgraded to a suite and our "butler" Allan provide us with amazing assistance to arrange our exploring the Sacred Valley. Fabulous food and the option to eat in the bar (amazing decor) gives you another price point. A few blocks aways is another dining option recommended called 3 Keros. Good value for the quality. Tambo del Inka even has their own train station and stop for Machu Picchu. Here's a valuable tip: When traveling by train to Machu Picchu, sit on the left side of the train as the views on that side are simply spectacular.

We spent December 24-28 at this hotel. It is breathtaking. The food is wonderful and it is a terrific spot for trips to the various sites, including Machu Picchu. It is a better location than Cusco because it is much closer to the sites. Spending the day in a car is not our idea of fun, so I suggest this location. This hotel was also priced better than equivalent Cusco hotels. We started the trip here because the elevation is lower (9000 feet) and ended in Cusco (11,000) on the back end. We took the 1 day hike to Machu Picchu, we jumped off the train at km 104, hiked for 7 hours -- it is a hard hike-- and then spent the night at Aqua Calientes. If we had to do it again we might have spent two nights at Agua Calientes so as not to rush. That town is cute and has a great market and tons of restuarants. Wiahapicchu(spelling) is the scary hike at Machu Picchu that requires extra admission. It is not to be missed. We also saw the ruins of Ollyantambo and that was great, mostly because we had a guide who explained so much. We took a mountain bike ride down a mountain pass on the way to Cusco and that was fun. Cusco is also terrific. We stayed at the JW Marriott and while its new, the rooms are tiny and service was not as good as the Westin. We did the stay on points, otherwise I would try something else. The highlight was this hotel.

We stayed at the hotel for two nights over the Christmas vacation. There were some service major issues at the restaurant at dinner on Christmas Eve, which seemed too busy for the amount of staff.
The WIFI was not working in the lobby area or our room (hotel deleted the room charge as WIFI didn't function).

To the hotel's credit, they apologized profusely, deleted some charges, etc., to make up for the service issues. The manager who apologized to my husband and me, Jorge, was clearly very sincere in his apology, and it left us w/ a better feeling about the hotel. Probably the issues that were going on related to the fact that Christmas week the hotel was really crowded.

On the plus side, the pool was great but on the minus side,
the jacuzzis were not available to guests w/o paying a fee for 'hydrotherapy' to the spa, which made guests pretty irate. A lot of people were complaining about that.

Rooms and hotel are beautiful, breakfast was good, location excellent.

But the service drawbacks were what would make me give this a 4 not a 5 star rating.

Good morning,

Thank you for your preference in Tambo del Inka!

Really concerned about all the struggle you went through during your stay with us.

Thank you indeed for bringing these matters into my consideration. I have already contacted our involved personnel and we are doing our best in order to ensure these kind of inconveniences do not happen again.

Thank you for your comprehension and understanding on this matter as I understand that extra charges to Wifi and others were not considered.

Concerning our Spa, let me inform you that the use of the swimming pool and gym are completely complimentary. However, our water treatment pool and whirpools have extra charges.

Once again, thank you indeed for your your report and do look forward to host you and your family again in time in order to show you our improvement on all these matters.

Remain at your disposal.

Loved the Tambo del Inka. It was the perfect start to our Machu Picchu adventure. We flew into Cusco and immediately drove down to the Sacred Valley. We spent two nights at the Tambo del Inka before heading to Machu Picchu for two nights. The service and resort are fantastic. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone making the trip.

In our two week visit to Peru, Tambo del Inko won the prize for the best hotel. The room (book at least a junior suite, which was fantastic), grounds, service, location and food were outstanding. The hotel is also very well situated to catch PeruRail to MachuPicchu. The Urubamba Valley is a beautiful part of Peru, and Tambo del Inka is a great way to experience the area.
