This was an absolutely amazing hotel, can't recommend it highly enough. I travel a lot and this is one of the best hotels I have EVER stayed at.

The staff were fantastic, very welcoming and it was clear to see they had been highly trained in customer service. They all spoke perfect English too, which wasn't always easy to find on our travels in South America.

The location is great, as it is about half way between Cuzco and Machu Picchu, so a great base to explore from. We stayed for 3 nights, but there are so many Inca ruins to see in the area we could have easily stayed for 4 or 5 nights. Also the hotel is so amazing it is nice to spend some time there, enjoying the spa facilities.

The hotel was very contemporary but in perfect keeping with it's local Incan heritage and this was reflected in the colours and accessories throughout the hotel.

Everything was perfectly clean and there were two iPhone docs, big LCD TV, robes, slippers, hair dryer, lovely amenities, cute chocolates on the pillow, lots of fluffy towels, fridge, tea and coffee making facilities.

Wifi in the room was chargeable per day (free in reception), which always seems to be the case in top end hotels. But you are in the middle of nowhere, so lucky to have it at all.

The room had a massive separate bathroom with two sinks, separate shower and bath.

The bed was extremely comfortable, with lovely bedding.

The restaurant and room service was all amazing quality and served a good mix of local and western foods.

The spa offered lovely treatments at fairly standard prices, so it was great to unwind and really relax.

The concierge was very helpful and helped us make tailor made excursions with a car and driver at our disposal. There was a business centre with free internet too.

The hotel has it's own train station called Urubamba within the grounds and this is a perfect way to get to Machu Picchu, but remember you need to book your train tickets (in advance) through Peru Rail. You also need to book separate tickets to enter Machu Picchu too, which can be done online or at an office in Cuzco or Aguas Calientes (you'll need your passport to buy them).

Can't recommend this hotel enough, they have really got everything right and we are so pleased we stayed there. It can only be described as wow, wow, wow !!!!

Urubamba is not a beautiful town like Ollantaytambo, but it would be hard to beat this property for a stay in the Sacred Valley. The rooms and public areas are exquisite, as is the location along the Rio Urubamba. The restaurant had very good, even outstanding food, but in trying a bit too hard to mirror a big-city fine-dining establishment, it ends up with far too many staff milling around but not really getting their act together.

The two concierges we encountered were also a little lackluster. Like many of the staff in Peru, even in the finest properties, they were extremely nice but a little passive and slow for a largely North American and European clientele.

Great spa as well, though you have to pay to use what's really just a jacuzzi and a hydro-massage chair.

We stayed at Tambo del Inka for two nights and had a fabulous experience. The hotel is impeccably run, and it is a great place to relax (beautiful pool and fireplace/sitting area) and adjust to the altitude difference. It is also in a great location to see both Ollantaytambo, Pisac, Maras and Moray.

We stayed 5 nights and we had a great stay. The facilities are absolutely awesome, the personnel was great, the food out of this world. The concierge we found a bit hard to work with but we used the travel agency and found them super helpful. We used them to buy tickets for our trip to Machu Picchu and they were very helpful. Next day we were inquiring about a taxi to Pisac and they suggested hiring a driver for 4 hours which would be cheaper. It turned out a great outing, Javier our driver was great (like everyone else at the hotel), he explained things, helped us with the entrances at the ruins, and our purchases at the market, etc. Anyway, just a perfect experience all around.

The dinner options get boring after so many days, but everything was just delicious. The bar has a different menu which helps and there are a few options in town for excellent food as well. As everything in life, this spot comes at a price, but it's worth it!

Room Tip: We had a ground room with a small patio, it was delightful!

We used Starwood points for a luxurious 2 night stay in the Sacred Valley and came before our 4-day trek to Machu Picchu. I recommend saving this heavily experience for after a trek.

The lobby was grand and inviting. We got in at 7pm and were famished and didn't feel like getting ready for a proper sit down dinner. No problem. The staff completed the check-process while we ate in the also well appointed bar. The rooms were very comfortably appointed though need a couple more lamps for when you need more light (e.g. packing for a trek). The fitness facility was functional but small. The spa and treatments were excellent. The staff were very gracious and usually outstanding. There was a tab of service inconsistency which was due to various english language skills.

All in all, this is a top10 hotel for me and I've stayed at hundreds in 40 years of business and adventure travel in 40 countries.

Tips for the traveler: 1) If the answer you get does not make sense, try again a minute later on the phone or to another person and ask your question another way. 2) This is a great use of SPG points and a Suite Night upgrade. The rack rate is up there near $1000 but well worth the points!

What a wonderful refuge on the way to Machu Picchu. The service is top notch with an extremely friendly and helpful staff. Isaac, the customer satisfaction manager gave our family a personal tour of this world class hotel that is an oasis within the Sacred Valley. Rooms are unusually large and highly functional. The pool is partially indoor and outdoor with a unique view. The food is superb. If you can afford this Starwood managed resort, I highly recommend.

We stayed 2 nights at this wonderful Hotel. The location is great to see the Sacred Valley with all it has to offer. The lobby is beautifully desigened and the rooms are spacious well designed and comfortable. The staff couldn't do enough for us. We also received a free hydro treatment in the Spa. This was an amazing experiancve and if you stay at this Hotel you should not miss this. We had meals in the Hotel and the food was good and the service was excellent. They also have a very good wine list. It is not cheap, but worth it.
