“Very charming place.”
Reviewed 24 October 2013

Me and my boyfriend took a taxi from the Cusco airport to Las Chullpas ..After arriving to Urubamba our taxi driver was circling around town and narrow streets looking for the place.Showing him an address and asking local people didn't help too.I think he was ready to give up,so he tried to convince us not to go there at all and find another hotel."No reccomendo" he repeated few times.Finely he find he's way and we got to Las Chullpas. We were so glad that we didn't listen to this taxi driver and made it there. Nancy, our host and partial owner is very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable.Everyone is very friendly there, even dogs.First day we had almost whole place for our selfs. It was so peaceful and beautiful, very interesting decor in the rooms.Next morning we had an amazing breakfast with very warm and personal service.Going to town,Nancy helped us with taxi and gave us recommendations and even helped us to buy entrance tickets to Machu Picchu. Only downside that it is very cold at night and we had a hard time to start the fire, which made us laugh ,but blankets were really warm and one evening we noticed huge black spider under the ceiling. It was nerve-breaking,but we called stuff for help and nice girl came and got read of the spider.
The day that we were leaving ,my boyfriend complained to Nancy that he didn't feel good and described he's problems. She gave him plant from the Las Chullpas medicinal garden, made him a special tea, gave him a beautiful ceramic cup to take with.
So,Las Chullpas is:the beautiful, green, relaxing spot surrounding by mountains, very friendly, helpful and happy stuff and magical night sky covered with amazing Urubamba's stars.
Thank you,Las Chullpas stuff for making this place so memorable.

My husband and I stayed in Las Chullpas with our two daughters on our way to Macchu Pichu. We did not expect to be in such a haven of peace. The rooms are decorated with all natural materials and great taste. We relaxed in the beautiful gardens and had lovely family cooking in the dining room every night. The owner is very friendly. Definitely a great place to stay.

After arriving to Cusco, we stayed at Las Chullpas to acclimate to the high climate before heading to Machupichu. It was a great transition for us. We loved how quiet and rustic the lodge was. The people at the lodge and village were extremely friendly. Chalo, the owner and manager, was great. I would highly recommend.

Room Tip: Los dormitorios son mas tranquilos.

We arrived on a rainy night in February, and upon contacting Las Chullpas, learned that it would be better to eat dinner in town, as during that month, with fewer guests, they buy food for scheduled diners on that day. The recommended restaurant was Qanela Restaurante, a delightful establishment that serves local Peruvian food. Well fed, we made our way by taxi to the hotel -- the driver calling twice for directions! A charming room with a fireplace (needed in February!) awaited us.
The next morning we had breakfast in the communal dining room. We were the only guests, and the cook/server/room service man, built another fire. We met the son of the owner who speaks excellent English (The family is German). In the daylight, we saw that the grounds are filled with local plants and trees -- each one labeled in Spanish and English.
Several caveats: The computer set up for wifi for the guests is a bit shop-worn and the keys on the keyboard take effort to strike. And, during the off season you must eat anything but breakfast elsewhere unless you make arrangements. It is a cook, not a chef that will prepare these meals. Taxis to tour local sites that are set up by the hotel are expensive, but unless you have another contact (we did) you are at their mercy.

I absolutely loved Las Chullpas. The rooms are so beautifully decorated. Each room has a fire place and wood for a fire which makes it sooo cozy. The rooms are in lovely little bungalows in the middle of nature. In front of the room a very comfortable hanging chair, hammocks, it is the best place to have a good rest between one hike and the other. The breakfast was delicious, also the best I had in Peru so far. I only wish I could have stayed longer.

Las Chullpas is located in a beautiful natural surounding far from roads. It is for that reason that I liked to stay. To my dissapointment, this establishment cannot be called a ¨hotel¨ for its negligent and low quality of service (e.g. except for breakfast there is no possibility of ordering any food), nor it can be denominated an eco-lodge: except for its surrouning. But it is not the surrounding rather than management (nature friendly) what makes a place ecological. There is nothing that could define Las Chullpass as responsible, ethical or environmentaly friendly. My sheets were changed daily until I asked the staff not to do that, recycling is minimal (e.g. paper hat could be burned in local chimneys is dispose with the rest of thrash), after the rooms are cleaned they are sprayed with a toxic ¨ambientador´¨, the establishment doesnt display any signs of prevention - e.g. discourage the use of plastic bottles by offering a water refill from the 20litre water tank. The establishment is runne an any other conventional accommodation.

I asked the staff what makes the place´´eco¨ and was not received any answer. My bad I idnt researche the place or asked before.

This place has a great POTENTIAL but is runned down, unattened and overpriced fo what it is.

If you are looking fo a place in the middle of nature, that is your place, if you are looking for a hotel or an eco-lodge, look elsewhere.

The overall impression of my stay in las Chullpas was neutral. Rooms are nice, clean and different from the ordinary hotel room (with stove etc.). The breakfast is very rich in taste and quantity. The whole area looks like a little camp in the middle of the nature.

Yet, the following things overshadowed our stay:
-water in the shower didnt drain in the first room we got
-stove in the second room was blocked, smoke was blown into our room
-we were promised to get the remaining change for our payment the next day - the manager was gone the next day and we couldnt didnt get the cash
-it is hard to get to the lodge when it is dark (dont be afraid of barking dogs)

To sum up: The area and the rooms as well as the overall concept is nicely established. Still, it takes a little bit more to run the lodge.

For the latter feature, I would rate it as poor, for the concept and rooms I give a very good - so average overall.
