One can hear every sound (and we mean EVERY sound) made in adjoining bedrooms. This can mean a lack of privacy as well as disturbed nights.
Quirky building which is quite fun and a good location - otherwise nothing special to rave about.

For the past years I had traveled all over South America and let me tell you one thing, this hostel is one of the most clean, friendly and professional that ever encounter on all of my adventures.
It has a beautiful colonial architecture mixed with a contemporary style, close in patios and a restaurant! What else could you ask for?
I want to make a remark to their chef Mario! If you want to have a gourmet meal at a fair price you will have to eat there. It's a wonderful experience to see him creat the dishes! Please try the curry peaches- everything is fresh!
Sebastian will be there always to recommend you places to see or guide you to them... A top notch when it come to service! I really felt like at home!
The wife didn't even complain once! One of the best times ever!

Room Tip: If you want a friendly clean place and good food you should stay here!

I am not a hostel person but had to bridge one night between another place and my trip to BA.I stayed in the place next door to the reception entrance which was a restaurant.A bit weird but funny at the same time, from your bed you can see the cook doing his thing. The whole place is very well maintained and super clean nice fresh sheets and towels! I would recommend this place to anyone. One thing ,in spite of what the girl at the reception thought, there is NO bus CA 1 (tres cruses)running before 7 so dont be fooled if you have to catch a early long distance bus or boat to BA!

Found this place by accident as one of the staff offered to help us with directions when we were lost in a nearby street! Very friendly staff, they went out of their way to help with directions and bookings. The place is amazing, beautifully designed and well maintained. Amazing views from the cute garden on the rooftop. Rooms and bedding are simple, bathrooms are no frills. Breakfast is cereal and bread, the setting is beautiful. Good value for what you pay.

The only bad thing about our experience to the "Ciudad Vieja" is that we were mugged. They stole Sun me's handbag while we were trying to figure out how to open the door. It turns out that there was another hole for the key, and the one we were using was the wrong one. So much for those heavy South American doors with dual slots for the keys.

The guidebook said this area is a bit dicey. When I asked the owner if there was anything to be concerned about, she brushed off my question as if it were totally unecessary. Oh well, we will chalk th isup as a learning experience, including the fact that if you wish to get a rebate for the bus, you need to file a police report. It does no good to hold up your bandaged arms and plead that between the emergency room trip and the next day bus departure, there was no time to file a police report.

But back to the Pousada al Sur. A lovely, lovely building, including a nice rooftop for gazing at the stars, or whatever comes out at night. And all of this set in heart of the historic quarter.

Room Tip: Great location, and beautiful house with high, vaulted ceilings, but be aware when walking around th...

Our tour guide Bruno recommended the hostel. We didn't stay there but the gracious hosts allowed us to store our bags. We took a tour of the premises and they seemed wonderful as well!! Would definitely recommend if the location suits your needs!

Nice and homely hostel with really helpful and friendly staff. The dou rooms are beautifully decorated with high ceilings. Breakfast is an interesting affair where you meet other travellers and share stories. If there is one criticism it would be that the wall in between the rooms are too thin that, when things are quiet in the early evening, it is impossible not to overhear a normal conversation next door.
