As a member of an airline crew, my wife stays at the After when laying over in Montevideo so when accompanying her, I got to check out her rave reviews. It really does have the most outstanding staff and you feel like they know every guest personally. Nothing is too much to ask.. They put up with all the inbound air crew socializing with the out bound crew at the breakfast well past the cutoff time with no sign of inconvenience whatsoever. The manager was around to greet guests and the concierge staff personally pointed us in the right direction with accurate instructions for all our outings. It was a short walk to the water and corniche around it, a short walk to the mall and shops, and convenient to all buses and taxis. Everyone was so friendly you felt you were staying with family.

It was too cool to take advantage of the rooftop pool but we enjoyed the view from the top. We had no problems with the internet and although we were on a front street facing window, the road must have been quiet a quiet one in the mornings because we were not disturbed. Rooms are small but well appointed. A definite recommendation.

Staff are great. Rooms are clean. I recommend the hotel. Very safe and close to a shopping centre. Could work on the rather bland food, but that won't take away from the 5 star excellent I gave. Location is great too. Small rooms, but I only slept there.

We spent 10 nights at this hotel and we would stay again there.

Everyone in the staff was excellent and made us feel like part of a family. Special mention to Natalia, who goes out of her way to be kind and efficient. The Internet service was excellent. So were the toiletries. The breakfast was excellent, but always the same food and that can be boring when you are staying several nights in a row, as we did. Introducing some variations might help.

The hotel staff arranged for us a car rental that was very convenient and at an excellent price.

I've seen many reviews complaining about the location, but having lived in Montevideo for several years, I purposely selected the hotel because of the location. It is a block from the beach, a block from a shopping center with all sort of services and in a neighborhood plenty of nice bars and restaurants (in fact, it's one of the points where the locals go out at night). It is one of the safest areas in Montevideo and with very good connections to any other parts of the city. The beach across the street from the hotel is once of the nicest areas of Montevideo and even in the winter, one can enjoy a run or a bike ride.

To us, the only negative points where the gym (too small) and the bar (could have more choices for drinks). However, you can skip the gym and go for a jog, and just go for drinks at one of the bars in the neighborhood.

Room Tip: We stayed at this hotel in a Premium King Room for three nights. We liked the hotel and the location...

It's a good place, very comfortable, nice staff, although a little expansive - even for the good services you get. The major complain is the internet, that is not that good. The breakfast is nice, and it's well located for business (foot distance from the WTC). I'd not recommend for vacations just because of the location, far from the old city.

This hotel is used by my company and I have no say in booking it, therefore, I am able to write a pretty valid review. The hotel is just off the beach in a pretty good area, nice for walking and near a shopping mall for meals etc. The big problem with this hotel is the internet service, or lack thereof. We have been using this hotel, booked by our company for about 1 year, and the same is always true...the internet in this hotel is about as good as the days of dial up service, although that would be an upgrade to what they have. You will be constantly knocked off the internet, about every 5-10 minutes. You would think this is a service issue, but we have been dealing with this for a year. It is annoying to get either dial up speeds, or have to stop in the middle of your work to re-sign in all over again, truthfully, about every 5-10 minutes. Our company uses another hotel in the area, which I would love to be in, but again, I have no say. The breakfast here is a highlight of the hotel and the staff is nice, but come here for vacation, not for any sort of business reasons.

Room Tip: You better ask for a room with real internet service, or better yet, just get another hotel.

Dear guest,

Many thanks for sharing with us your comments about your stays at our Hotel. Your feedback is very useful for us as to be able to improve the quality of our service.

Regarding your comment about our Internet service, as our Front Office Manager explained to you, the reason for your ipad getting disconnected from our wifi system, was the fact that certain ipads have communication issues with hotspot authentication systems (this having been publicly acknowledged by Apple).

Our solution has been to register your ipad´s ID (mac address) on our central router as to not require any identification on your part, thus being able to navigate without disconnections originated by that failure from the ipad.

We are glad that you have been able to verify this successfully during your last couple of stays.

Our Hotel is oriented to both leisure and corporate travelers and the quality of our broadband connectivity continues to be one of or top priorities.

We look forwards to welcoming you back soon.

Warm regards,

Martin Monzeglio.

We had hired a car and planned on using the After as a base to drive Uruguay for a few days, this was a good plan. The staff are friendly and helpful, English and Spanish spoken well. The room was tiny so a good place to be out of, noisy from the streets and the other rooms. Looking at Montevideo city centre, it is probably about the right distance away. Good restaurants close by, parking for the car (a bit expensive but look at the average car on the street and hide the hire car away), the mall and supermarkets close and good quality.

If we come back we will have the suite everyone raves about!
