NH Montevideo Columbia

After some 3 years, stayed again at the NH Columbia. I am 3 yeras older and so is the hotel.
Still a great location, oceanview and a spacious room that had been built well. Once.
Service is still very friendly and nice.
However the plumbing is hectic -- water temperature in shower oscilating between cold and boiling hot (and I mean hotttttt). Many things are broken.
The air-condition shaft has not been cleaned since my last stay in 2010... At least that's how it looks.
Bottom line: next trip to Mointevideo, I'll likely look for an alternative hotel.

Room Tip: The Restaurant Solic -- in vfront of Teatro Solic serves wonderfull steaks. The Gurvich Mueso is co...

NH Columbia has the perfect combination of location, price, quality, wide rooms, good breakfast and attention.
When travelling for business or for pleasure, this hotel is perfectly located to do a stop over in Montevideo. Easy access by car, good parking, and outstanding views of the Rio de la Plata.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the river!

We stayed only one night at NH Columbia and it suited us well. The main city square is within walking distance. Only walk there during the daytime. Some of the local residents warned us not to walk around the inner city area at night. Driving to where you want to go at night is preferable.

A highlight in Montevideo was the beach area next to the city. A lot of the local residents visited the beach and a beach football tournament was on. At one of the stalls we ordered beer and we each received a very large bottle. It was very enjoyable. To get to the beach, follow the road in front of the hotel away from the harbour area.

We really enjoyed the breakfast at this hotel. The airport is very modern and spacious and during the weekend it took 25 minutes to get there.

Room Tip: Try to get a room on one of the top floors - the views over the ocean is great

We did an overnight on our way back from La Pedrera to Buenos Aires, the room was overlooking the sea, the breakfast was excellent and the wifi worked well. We recommend to stop as you come or go between Uruguay and Buenos Aires as it is a couple of blocks from the port and it has parking (which otherwise was hard to find and expensive).

This Hotel is nice looking when you approach it from the outside. Among the projects of derelict buildings and cardboard beach housing this Hotel stands out nicely. If you are lucky to find a parking space in front of the Hotel you can enter the spacious front desk area, which had a clean feel about it. I was given a top floor corner room with Rio Plata view. Only one of the elevators worked and after some wait I was transported to my floor. The carpets in the hallway was worn out heavy and the walls had many dings from luggage, guests obviously could not carry without running into the walls. My room was small but clean with a small desk and chair for my computer (free working !! WiFi), a double bed and a sufficient bathroom. I opened the window for the fresh breeze from the River. I slept with open windows since AC was not working. In the morning one can not sleep long, since traffic outside is very noisy once rush hour starts. So off to breakfast. The buffet is sufficient but simple. A sign on the table tells you, that you can order eggs any way you like, but where ? The waitress was nowhere to be seen. I ended up walking into the kitchen to order my eggs, they arrived about 10 minutes later. Even though any business in Uruguay has an abundance of staff, you can never find them. Uruguayans in Uruguay don't seem to like work... The area the Hotel is in is bad. Ciudad Vieja (Old Town) can be walked Monday to Saturday during normal trading hours, but should be avoided during nights and Sundays. I have been in quite a few Hotels in Uruguay and even though this Hotel does not compare to normal NH standards, it is still one of the better ones in Montevideo.

Room Tip: Book high floor with Rio Plata view.

Stayed with my husband and son last week and all I can say is EXCELLENT. The view to the Rambla is the best. Having an awesome breakfast with my family with view to Rio de la Plata is a breathtaking and energizing experience. The warm service provided by NH's employees made me feel at home. It wouldn't stay anywhere else... the location is great since it is away from noisy downtown but not that far...so it is conveniently located. thanks NH Columbia! you made our stay wonderful

Room Tip: the rooms facing Rio de la Plata (the Rambla) are awesome!
