This is some way out of town, and a taxi ride is necessary for the centre of Montevideo, but the area of Punta Carretas is charming in itself, so if you're not after late-night city centre revelling, this can be a good choice for walks along the ramblas. The welcome at the hotel was extremely friendly, my room was spacious and meticulously clean, and the breakfast was good, too. The front desk can organise a handful of tours on request.

I expected that this hotel would be a good one, but I was pleasantly surprised by the sheer size of the bedroom. The kingsize bed faced a small television set (maybe 32 inches) which separated it from a small sitting area. To the left of the bed room was the standing shower with toilet and bide (sp?). Just outside the bathroom was a vanity, complete with blow dryer. There was also a desk with two chairs.

The location is alright. It is walking distance from the Punta Carretas shopping center. Getting a taxi is easily done with the assistance of the front desk.

The buffet breakfast has everything you will need to fill your bellies and go on with your day. Finally, take advantage of the free internet computers available just to the left of the elevators when you are walking OUT of them.

NOTE: My husband and I arrived on Christmas evening and there was absolutely nothing open. We had not anticipated that---even though we should've--but we did toast with a bottle of wine and a pack of pringles!

Good location, near the mall. The room is roomy, clean and looks as new. Very good breakfast. Front desk attendence very kind. Despite it´s business looking I recomend it for all kind of trip. It´s not near the touristic route but there´s a good neighbourhood. For eating I recomend "Perdiz" (it´s just two blocks away) with it´s typical barbecue.

Nice location (the neighborhood, Punta Carretas - and Pocitos, is a residential one, and, except for the ramblas - huge avenues alongside the La Plata river - is not exactly touristic, but near business sites), formal hotel. Pretty good accomodations, breakfast ok, as well as service. The tip goes to the Chivito, a typical uruguaian sandwich, really good at the hotel.

This hotel is located at Punta Carretas, an upscale neighborhood, very near a mall with all the services that one might need: banks, supermarket, shops, restaurants, and so on... You shold also try the restaurant La Perdiz wich is very good (barbecue style) and near the hotel. Just be careful when walking around at night.
Room is somewhat small but very decent and clean. The first room we were given, however, was a smoking room but it was very easy to change it to another one in a non-smoking floor. The guys at the check in were very efficient, accommodating and quick.
Nice breakfast with the usual fare.
I have tried other hotels nearby however this is my first choice for the city because it is a hotel with good service, clean and where I feel safe.

This Hotel has been upgraded by the Solmelia Group from a Tryp to a Melia hotel but their web-site hasn't been upgraded yet to show this. It was in a nice location - a little way out of the centre but close to the beach and a great shopping centre. I did however feel it a little too formal - mainly I suspect used by business travellers, however there was nothing bad about it - quite the contrary.
The rooms were very nice - spotlessly clean. The staff were helpful but most of the bar staff didn't speak english - unusual for a big hotel. We had dinner there one night and it was really good but the hotel didn't quite do it for us as leisure travellers. I don't think I'd stay there again. I'd probably the Shertaton which is close by and seems to cater for the more international traveller (we had drinks there and it was more cosmopolitan) or perhaps the Raddison which is more in the town centre.
