Stayed here for two nights in a shared bathroom private room. Great location (close to Ciudad Vieja and Avenida 18 de Julio), very clean, decent breakfast, lovely historic building, friendly and helpful staff. Highly reccomended

My stay in Montevideo was definitely made comfortable in this hostel. The friendly staff really integrated with the guests and were very helpful. The hostel is within walking distance from many attractions. The beautiful old restored building gives the feeling of an old city villa. There is a pool. Breakfast was great

The hostel in a fine old building and facilities are good, but worn to some degree. I stayed in one of their two double/single rooms without private bath, and the quality of these is far below the rest of the hostel. I would say that they are shabby, and the price is completely out of proportion. I found a first class room in a new hotel (Orpheo Express Hotel) in the very the center (with bath of course) for a price only about 20% higher than Ukulele. I told the owner in a friendly way that his rooms were too expensive, but he did not take it in. Ukulele is ok, but do not pay for a double/single room, choose dormitory. Also they will only let you shift from single to dormitory after two days from your arrival!

Room Tip: Do not choose single/double rooms, go for dormitory or find another hostel

The hostel is not BAD, it just needs VERY MUCH to became an actual hostel.
Lack of bethrooms: only 4 for the whole hostel. Two of them are "normal bethrooms", with a toilet and shower. If one guest is showering on the first floor you have to go up stairs to use the toilet.
Lack of air conditioner or fans: only one fan on the bedroom with 12 persons up stairs. It was IMPOSSIBLE to sleep because Montevideo is very hot during the summer.
Lack of information from the staff and lack of city maps.
One refrigerator is not enough for so much people.

Good things:
SWIMMING POOL! The best thing about the hostel was the swimming pool!
The breakfast is very good, with butter, bread, juice, coffee, dulce de leche and fruits.
They have a fireplace, some heaters. If you are going during the winter, you'll be fine.

Room Tip: The room on the first floor is not so hot as the 12 people room in the 2nd floor.

Overall sensation: They are not prepared for the summer, at all!

The hostel is really well located BUT they lack on:
- Information about city attractions;
- Maps and useful tips to travelers;
- Ventilators, air conditioner or ANYTHING to release the summer (35ºC at night)
- TOO FEW toilets and showers for the number of guests. You would need three times more toilets to attend the demand.

On the other hand they have a nice breakfast included in price, the staff is friendly and they have a great swimmig pool at the backyard.

Room Tip: Ask the the one with a ventilator, or bring your own. (people had to buy one during they stay)

My boyfriend and I stayed here a few days ago. We booked a 8 bed dorm, but when we arrived they asked if we would like to stay in the 6 bed dorm for the same price as it was quiet. The hostel is beautiful, has a pool and just an overall amazing building. Staff were great, they even provided us with breakfast at 6am as we had to leave early! This is one of the best hostels I've ever stayed at!!

If you visit Montevideo, stay here! The staff were great, in a decent location, it was super clean with very good showers, and in general the hostel had a lot of character. One of the best hostels I'v stayed in anywhere!
